nbc's george solis joins us from plan.ood morning, what's the situation on the ground there today? >> yeah, good morning, jose. humanitarian crisis still unfolding. there are still a number of my grants sleeping on the streets. a number of men as the women and children usually stay at sacred heart behind me. many of them are trying to navigate this new landscape after they reached those port of entries. many of them of course as you know going through hell and back essentially with their families encountering people who are trying to steal from them, being kidnapped, and even worse along their trails there. many of the families here trying to figure out what's next. many of them wondering if they will stay here, try to get to a sanctuary city, many of them as you know are heading to cities up north and many of them are being met with protests, people who are upset that, you know, they're being moved to hotels, and they just want to know if they're going to be reunited with their families if they are being separated here at

the family joining us this morning, george solis. what more can you tell us about this d.a.e're still waiting on the impact time line on when this case could go before a grand jury. we do know the d.a.'s office has assigned a senior prosecutor to this case, and they're going to be looking at a wide berth of evidence, including that medical examiner's report that does indicate that jordan neely died from that chokehold. there's also 911 calls. we believe there's about five of them, and then of course that video that went viral that shows that 24-year-old marine veteran putting jordan neely into that chokehold. of course as you mentioned over the weekend and throughout the week there were a number of protests, the most visual and large that we saw was the one that took place on saturday which included that clash with police there. that result led to about 13 arrest, we're told, that's according to the nypd. you mentioned both sides issuing statements, the attorneys for jordan neely going on the air over the weekend as well expressing their frustration that charges were not imm

nbc's george solis is at philadelphia international airport, and nbc's lindsey reiser is inside new york'soking? >> reporter: hey, chris, there's a certain giddiness from travelers i've been speaking with. many of them eager to get on a plate, get to their destination. many of them trying to avoid some of that disturbance in the florida area where there is some bad weather. people are jonesing for some normalcy here. many of them getting on planes for the first time since the pandemic started and, you know, they know that right now is probably the best time to travel. sure, tickets are a little bit more expensive, about 2.5 million expected to go through some check points, as i'm looking around almost every one of these gates here, fully staffed with tsa agents. last year there was a number of delays and shortages caused by shortages at tsa and among the airlines. the airlines saying look, we've got it this year. we have adequate staffing both on the ground and even added highways in the air to make sure people are getting to their destinations faster. i asked a number of travelers here on

nbc's george solis joins us now from new york.eading up to that deadly chokehold? >> that's the key component to all of this. investigators are still trying to piece together the timeline of how this went down. as far as jordan neely, we know he experienced trauma at a young age, at the age of 14 witnessing his mother's own murder and found work as a street performer. they said he was a beloved entertainer, michael jackson impersonator. they want to know why charges were not filed after daniel penny put him in the chokehold with the help of two others. they said he was questioned by authorities and released. as you mentioned, that's led to a number of protests throughout the week where you saw protesters clashing with authorities. authorities say 13 people were arrested as a result of those protests. we know more are expected today. another vigil expected to take place at the subway station where jordan neely lost his life. neely's attorneys putting out a statement in response to that marine veteran's own statement saying he never

nbc news correspondent george solis is following the tile for us outside the courthouse in pittsburghere this morning. some witnesses were starting to be called. what have we heard so far? >> reporter: what we heard is pretty emotional testimony. probably among the most chilling would be from the dispatcher who took some of the first 911 calls from inside of the church. you can hear some of the gunshots in some of those calls from what we're told from our team in the courthouse. you hear the victims describing they had been shot trying to identify where the shoots were coming from. we also heard from one of the rabbis there describing the layout of the church and how three different groups of worshippers make up the tree of life synagogue and all told you have a number of people just listening in including robert bowers who we're told is listening to all of this testimony from the witnesses the prosecution has brought during opening arguments and laid out the case pretty clearly and took into account everything that led up to the shooting including the moments leading up to it. basica
