on the proposed central soma tax district.on to establish the central soma special tax district. there is the approval of a resolution determining necessity to incur bonded indebtedness in an amount not to exceed $5.3 billion and the introduction of an ordinance levying additional taxes which would be adopted at the next board meeting. this is in error because you don't have a board meeting next week for the holiday. it's going to be on january 29. this slide recaps the other related legislation for the central soma area plan and the special tax district that the board and mayor have already acted on. on november 21 of last year, the mayor approved the resolutions of intent to establish the central soma special tax district and to incur bonded indebtedness. on december 7 and 12, the various components to establish the central soma plan were adopted. this package included the various legislative amendments that you see here, and it also included the adoption by reference of the implementation program and benefits program which

we recognize that the park across the street is a treasured resource in the soma district. not only to the general public, but for the filipino cultural heritage community and the lgbtq cultural district. we understand the importance of protecting the park. the first concern of some neighborhood groups pertain to ellis act, which has nothing to do with this project. we have never previously filed an ellis act and as soon as we realized it was a mistake, the filings were abandoned and no evictions of any tenants ever occurred. no evictions ever occurred. in a good faith effort and thanks to the guidance of our late mayor lee, these five buildings were sold to the mayor's housing aquisition program. selling the properties will keep 19 units in the five buildings permanently affordable. we're doing our best to right a wrong. in cooperation with the planning department, the mayor's office of housing and tenderloin housing clinic, this project was redesigned to a 63-unit building within the same envelope, offering more housing to families, more rental stock to our city, aened ab

the park mean so much to me living in the soma. my friends play basketball there every summer, which is so important to them. i want to see my friends enjoy the sun as we watch them play for fun. the park is important because we only have a few parks in the selma that we can go and really enjoyed the place without a shadow blocking the sun. i also have a statement from a young man who was 18 years old and is currently attending city college here. he says, i grew up playing at the park, and many of the other kids have the same experiences. it is the only real park that is truly there is. more shadow will limit the exposure to the sun. the kids need to develop their young bodies. more shadows will mean less vitamin d provided by the sun and more shadows can cause people, especially kids to not come to the park as often because of the lack of sun. i am here to oppose this project >> thank you. >> i will call a few more names.
