this happened about 4:00 this afternoon at second and mission streets in the soma district. joe vazquez takes us through the moments leading up to that crash. >> reporter: a san francisco police source tells me this crash happened after a car theft suspect sped through a red light, smashed into another car and then began spinning wildly through the intersection. as the car spun, the police source says it smashed into two women walking in the cross walk and sent them flying. one woman died immediately. the other was rushed to the hospital where she died. the driver tried to leave the scene, but was quickly arrested. police officers placing a man in cuffs. the suspected hit-and-run driver was in a stolen car at the time and that he was on parole for robbery. >> it was horrific. i mean, two people losing their lives just walking down the street on new year's eve. it's unimaginable how devastating it is. >> reporter: san francisco's supervisor matt haney has been working on making the traffic flow of city streets safer. he says there is work to be done. >> i'm glad they caught t
