andy sonnanstine, seven innings, 77 pitches.he's well on his way to his second career complete game. this guy pitches like this, it's hard to believe he's only had one. >> rob: i watched him a lot last year and he was really tough down the stretch for this team. when he's on, he's really on. >> bob: that ball well hit by hernandez, unreachable even for b.j. upton. it will one hop the wall for a double and the nats will have their first base hit since guzman back in the third. anderson hernandez 2 for 3 tonight. it's a pretty good muscle for a guy who bunted for a base hit first time. >> rob: you're going to see him try to roll this curveball over. he hangs it in the zone. you're swinging hard early in the count. connects for a double. top off the order guzman. >> rob: remember he tried to do basically a slap hit, like a hockey slap shot and failed. but i like the idea. >> bob: you cocall that three quality at-bats tonight. >> rob: absolutely. having an idea, having a great approach. watch -- i watch rick work with these guys eve

andy sonnanstine is really being economical with his deliveries.he hasn't even thrown 70 pitches. 69 and 50 for strikes, retiring the last 12 nats. >> rob: he has to have -- remember john burkett, jeff suppan. when you don't have overpowering stuff yet you can throw 88, 89-mile an hour fastballs and place them. throw 78-mile an hour breaking balls and some change-ups, you can be pretty nasty. last year sonnanstine was so much better, they said 21 home runs given up over almost 200 innings. shows you how dominant his stuff can be even when he doesn't break 90 miles per hour. >> bob: jason bergmann has pitched 14 innings. that ball's trouble, left center. willie harris over to cut it off. longoria is not fast. and evan longoria just collected his first base hit of this series after going 0 for 5 with a walk. so the nats have done a good job for two nights of containing this offense, but there's just very little offense to go with the good pitching so far. >> rob: jason bergmann continues to get hurt by that breaking ball. he has a great sinker. gets

so ryan and jordan doing quite well, andy sonnanstine giving up another home run.'s given up 14 of them this year. so now you're up to date and carlos pena hack as foul ball. to begin the bottom of the fourth inning. nationals by the way have austin kearns in the line-up tonight. you might have heard by now that the nats are without josh willingham. byron kerr will have more on that shortly. a tragedy in the willingham family, and josh left the ball club this morning to go back to alabama. we'll check in with byron shortly. pena, disoab rift, burrell. that ball is going to leave the yard, way out of here. almost to the scoreboard. and pena's 20th of the year gets tampa bay on the board here. he becomes only the fifth player in the major leagues with 20 home runs. >> rob: this is going to be a 95-mile an hour fastball down and in, it's supposed to be down and away. that's what happens to those pitches when you throw them down and in to a lefty. you throw that hard, you're going to give up home runs. shake it off, come right back. attack the strike zone some more. >>
