you can see starting to get going northern sonoma county. as questiwe get into this after more activity. i stopped the clock tonight at 8:00. the front still draped well to the north of san francisco, but everything presses south as we meet back here tomorrow morning and by 11:00 a.m., you're already talking about 12 straight hours of moderate to heavy rainfall up in the north bay. now for us here in the south bay, the heaviest stuff doesn't get going until we hit tomorrow afternoon into the evening hours. once it starts we'll be in the thick of it as well with 12 hours of moderate to heavy rainfall and our roads are just not equipped to receive these kinds of rain rates. you want to keep that in mind. we're doing the work for you. we'll let you know what's going on this weekend when showers start to let up a touch, tell you what's going on indoors, a couple great events happening across the bay area, always doing our research for you especially if you've got kids. it can be hard to keep them inside for long periods of time. i wouldn't know

at this point starting to see that heavy rainfall really press into sonoma county. over the past two hours we start to see the atmospheric river connection and for us, all this green starting to develop at our latitude here in the south bay will be here before you know it. next couple hours things starting to ramp up and it's rush hour. mike will have a busy morning ahead of him, expecting the heavy rainfall to start up in the north bay between 7:00 and 10:00 and once this thing gets going it will be moving quickly. 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. heaviest rain along the peninsula, south highway 19. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., heavy activity in the bay. i'll be here until at least 2:00 and maybe stay for tonight's shows depending on how much rain and aftermath we have coming in. stop that clock for you at 12:00, you request see another visual representation of that rain coming in. it will be widespread. plan on bringing your lunch with to you work. you don't want to be out on the highway with conditions like this. you might not make it back in time. one hour is not enough for l

we're starting to see our first green in sonoma county.e head throughout the morning together the wind is going to be rather fierce and we'll see this entire front spread to the south as we head throughout the next couple hours, also watching this batch of green that developed here that will likely hit marin county. here's the deal, storm system basically stays north of san jose, until we get into tomorrow, but tomorrow is looking downright treacherous. we're talking about already seeing a 24-hour period of rainfall up in the north bay, and then the heavy stuff moves in, when we really hit that atmospheric river tap and look at this. that's a lot of red over the bay area. here's the thing, though. we want our weekend, we work hard for it around here. i can tell you as we get into saturday, you will have opportunities to get out there before we get another round, it looks like moderate rainfall compared to what we are expecting between today and friday. just make sure you're prepared for that, if you have not got your sandbags just yet we u

just a few drips of rain in north sonoma county and that is it. that said, when the rain begins it's going to come in a tonight and we'll see by this time tomorrow several inches of rainfall in the north bay. likely enough to cause some isolated flash flooding so you in marin, napa and sonoma county are under a flash flood warning and the rain will also come with wind. a wind advisory is in effect for the entire bay area. we'll see widespread wind gusts to 40 miles per hour higher elevation wind gusts to get as strong as 60 miles per hour. so the exact timing we asked futurecast and at 10:00 tonight frankly that's not much rain out there just a few showers in north sonoma county. the rain begins to pick up but stays north of the golden gate at 8:00 tomorrow morning, but then tomorrow afternoon's commute that's going to be sloppy very wet and very windy. that rain is going to be coming down in buckets for that drive home tomorrow. so this time tomorrow will be the bull's eye of wave one of the storm. we'll talk about how much rain to expect on frid

the elevated flood rates, american sonoma and napa counties, winds gusty, 15 to 40 miles per hour, take down trees power outages and the roadways after 42 days of no rainfall will be dangerously slick. more on the hour pie hour forecast in 15 minutes. much jeff, see you shortly. >>> a while since we have done this, we know the drill, get prepared as was alluding to flooding, power outages and flooding trees. robert honda found some of the businessiest people in the bay area today and robert, those would be the tree trimmers. >> the drought created a situation where people here in san jose as well as in the hills and mountains all face the same hazard falling trees. today, some people are trying to beat nature to the punch. today, ralph and his sop, chris, watched in awe as crews cut large branches off some of the 200-foot fir trees around their property. it is a safety precaution being taken by homeowners here in felton as well as neighborhoods in the south bay in late december saw huge trees fall on power lines, damaging the poles and causing outages. >> they act as big sails. these br

and so as we look at friday and most of the heaviest is in marin and sonoma and elsewhere. as we advance throughout the day, the heavy pockets through san francisco, and maybe still a while throughout extreme bay, and towards the late afternoon and evening hour, and the thing is that by 7:30 you start by t the morning hours, and still getting it by 7:30 at night, and by 11:30, the widespread and coverage and so by saturday morning, a few spotty showers leftover, and saturday is the break in between the storms. then as we head throughout sunday, it is the late morning and into the afternoon, and the second storm lineup, and so with the grounds saturated we will have some problems throughout sunday. we will be there to track that and the timing is shifted on that and the big storm day is friday. so looking at the estimated totals for both of the storm systems, there is a disparity. south bay, 1 to 1 1/2 to 2 and up in the north bay, it is 5 1/2 inches is likely. and then as we get into the weather trend over the next couple of days dry thursday and storm day friday with the g

friday morning, we have a flash flood watch that goes into effect for sonoma and marin county. i would not be surprised by saturday to see that extended all the way down to the south bay with a lot of rain headed our way. it's the kind of rain that we need to put a dent in, that deficit that we're running with the drought. but so far, everything that i've been looking at still adding up to ample moisture over the bay area. as we get into the next couple days. so here's the deal. for us here in the south bay, i think that rain is going to start up late friday into saturday. saturday looks good for heavy rainfall here in san jose and we're going to continue that into sunday, even monday. but i think the highest totals, as we've been telling you, are going to come in from sonoma, marin county, san francisco, and san mateo counties. so do keep that in mind. a lot of moisture headed our way. this is what we're still working with. i think we're beginnigoing to s to six inches on the valley floor. six to 12 inches, a foot of rain is actually possible, looking more and more likely. eve
