this was the buck tup at the sonoma county land -- back up at the sonoma county landfill last week. this is the traffic now. the army corps of engineers has instituted a new process this week to make the dumping process faster. >> if you look around the trucks are moving faster. we are not waiting for crews of trucks to get there. it has been a vast improvement on the efficiency. >> reporter: what used to be a 2 to 3-hour dumping process now takes less than one. rather than wearing trucks in and out, the new system takes the known weight of the temp tee truck and sub tracts it from the full load. that way they know how much debris is being removed. normally the landfill accepts anywhere from a thousan 1100 tons of household waste a day. thanks to the fire and thp debris removal process it is accepting ten times that amount with all the dirt and non hazardous material they are moving in. today was one of the landfill's busiest days so far. it is uch an effective system that they are considering expanding it to other areas accepting waste. >> there are a lot of areas we are looking at
