it would be wrong as not to allow sophie maxwell not to say a few words on this great occasion. thank you. >> wow, this is a really great day. it is like having a baby, since 2007. [laughter] you know, and now the birthing. as a lot of us know within the last 24 hours, that is when it really starts coming. and finally, this baby is here. i want to thank all of the proud parents. a lot of community people who are here that really helped to make this happen. it is not as if bayview in people in this area have not been fighting for a long time. we just have not been heard. we know about fresh fruits and vegetables. we know what we need. but we were not hurt. i want to thank the community first. i want to thank fresh & easy for taking in seizing the opportunity. i want to think many people in the city's office to hurt us and did not stop until it happened. as was mentioned, they had to assemble things and get everything. and having a store for us was not in the mix. which would only make sense if you are building thousands of units of housing that you would not have a decent store f

former supervisor sophie maxwell. she may be here later on today. she was fantastic to secure funds. supervisor cohen alluded to the support from other mr. supervisors. it is my pleasure to introduce supervisor scott wiener. [applause] >> thank you and congratulations to everyone on this amazing progress. all the three branch libraries in my district were open before i took office, so i like to live vicariously through my colleagues to help celebrate something so important. in a time when we all get down on our city government for not doing as well as we want them to do, in terms of services, what our government has been able to do with renovating and opening libraries, helping to build communities in the neighborhoods is critical. i am optimistic for third street. this is a big part of moving this entire corridor forward. i also want to reiterate something the mayor said. i have the fortune of working with malia cohen. we sit on a land use committee together. she is a tenacious advocate for district 10. she is doing a great job and i am proud to ca

this morning because i was thinking about that tough vote from a year ago, and i want to thank sophy maxwell for helping convince me to cast that vote. thank you. [applause] i remember the hundreds of conversations i had with many of you here. but i have to tell you -- the one conversation i remember most was the one that i had with the tenants of alice griffith, and i want to thank all of you who are here. could you please raise your hands? could we give it up for the tenants of alice griffith? [applause] you are why we are here. you have been the present, and you are the future of our city. we view, we're going to keep this going. thank you for being here. let's get it going. -- with you, we're going to keep this going. >> next, district 10 supervisor, malia cohen.
