it's having a serious impact in the bay area as air quality in parts of the south bay are especially bad today. >> and if you've been outside, you certainly have seen this. we have team coverage. let's begin right now with nbc bay area's pete seratas. pete, that thick brown layer over san jose, how is it where you are? >> reporter: as we were driving into morgan hill, you could see the gray skies in the hills. this is off 101. you can see the thick patches of smoke. i spoke with the air quality management district. they said this comes down to the south bay's proximity to the fire. here they are explaining that a little bit more in depth as well as some reaction from residents in morgan hill for folks who are forced to deal with this. >> obviously it's closer so they're more impacted. but it's moving the smoke east and also north. so that's why we're seeing the impacts there right now. >> it's really bad, because i use the attic fan at nighttime to let the cool air in and it's bringing the smoke in. it actually made me sick to my stomach. >> it was most noticeable in the morning. you

peninsula, 75 and on the south bay, coming in with 81. tomorrow morning's forecast, we start with fog in san francisco and 49 degrees. but it will be a mostly sunny start here for the east bay. the main reason we had the hot weather today, high pressure sitting offshore. it's going to stay for the next four days. keeping those temperatures hot inland. the other thing it's going to do is continue to decrease the air quality. you can see for tomorrow, spare the air alert in effect with the worst air quality across the east bay and the south bay. let's take you into the forecast as we head throughout tuesday and once again, it will be warm. we don't think we'll hit the century mark, but it will be close. especially in morgan hill with 98 degrees and dpen, some of the smoke from the fire near monterey moving up near morgan hill and gilroy. so beware of that if you suffer from respiratory problems and alg allergie allergies. for the north bay, east bay and trivalley, dangerous levels of heat in contra costa. as danville goes up to 102 tomorrow,

for the south bay, it was a hot day as well. temperatures are dropping off with, again, a bay breeze starting to infiltrate campbell. 85 right now and several pairs here of 88s from downtown into the valley. we have high pressure in play blocking any kind of cooler air moving our way. that's going to keep it hot for the next two days. 90 to 100 degrees heat inland. here's how it stacks up tomorrow. we'll have mostly sunny skies and a cool and crisp 54 in the north bay. san francisco 53. and right across the south bay, sunny skies and 59. through the afternoon, again, it gets hot. the highest fire danger and also heat that certainly will be unhealthy will be for the tri-valley with an average of 100 degrees. the south bay getting up there with 94 degrees. san francisco does warm up. but you'll stay right near average at 70 degrees. there's two important things we're following with the heat. that is the spare the air alert. worst air quality tomorrow for the east and also the south bay. the other thing we're tracking is the pollen.

best start would be the south bay and 54 degrees. then we'll have the thick fog in san francisco at 53. start in the north bay at 48. so the fog pattern will stay put each and every day. you can see just how thick it is down to santa cruz, but as we've been mentioned, there's another thing that's kind of unusual for july that will help keep temperatures down. that is the jet stream. you can see it's going to be getting super close to us as we head throughout the week. so that's the main reason why you'll see the skroling seven-day forecast, there's no 90s or 100s this week. i think the only prb we may have here in the forecast is if you suffer from allergies. pollen isn't extremely high, but a little bit of irritants in the atmosphere when it comes to grass and chin pas, the wind picks up a little bit and you're going to feel it. let's look at the super comfortable numbers. as we get a look at our micro climate forecast for wednesday. this will put the south bay at 82 degrees. that's it. our hottest temperature tomorrow in the south b

it will be as you head out, 76 in the south bay, as we drop in on the north bay, the temperatures are warming up. and it is 63 now at belvedere. as we go to the south bay to go hour by hour in san jose, into the upper 80s today, up to 64 degrees at 4:00. 6:00 getting home and turning on the air-conditioning because it will be hot in the house, and later this evening mostly clear skies and cooling down. our wind direction coming down from the north and it's not really that strong at about five to ten miles per hour during the day. and then the winds stay mostly calm as our temperatures warm up into the upper 80s to low 90s. oakland 80 degrees, and fairfield 83 degrees. high pressure continuing to build to the south of us. hot in the valleys. won't be until about saturday and sunday when that starts to break down. this area of pressure is moving in and giving us a stronger onshore risk. so here is how the temperatures trend. low 90s on friday and then down to 83 in the peninsula. san francisco once again, pretty much remains unchanged with a high reaching into the mid 60s and 90s in the
