we have absolutely no rain shadow in the south bay. e santa cruz mountains not blocking off the rain. heavier downpours into downtown san jose, a little letup in san francisco and oakland. there you see across marin county into the north bay, heavier showers moving through and the rain that's in san jose now heading up the sunol grade about to hit the tri-valley in the next 15 minutes. notice how the rain is moving from south to north, the area of low pressure to the south. between now and 10:30 this morning, looking at the rain in san jose, a different story as we approach the evening commute. notice the widespread rain and showers move to the east. behind it mild temperatures today, decreasing showers for the afternoon. high today in the upper 60s to near 70. a short break saturday and more rain due in on sunday. that sunday system is going to bring we think the biggest impact to the north bay where some of the hilltops could see as much as one to two inchs of rain. maybe locally higher than that. in the sierra, cool air arriving with

you can see the scattered nature of the rain moving into the heart of the bay, but not into the south bay and barely into the inland east bay neighborhoods. see the storm stalling overnight? bringing us our best chance of measurable rain. it starts to move north during the afternoon hours and leaves a parting gift for the north bay tomorrow afternoon. rainfall amounts will start in the north bay, where it's most impressive. possibly up to 2/3 of an inch. mountainview and san jose, the big goose egg. nothing measurable there. that's how difficult this storm is going to be to get rain in the south bay. as far as the temperatures today, mid-60s to low 70s. tonight will be another mild one, with temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. here's a look at my seven-day forecast. we're all getting a break wednesday with a little bit of sunshine. mid-60s to mid-70s. still muggy by our standards. that next storm comes in thursday. it's going to be stronger and hit the south bay this time. we're going to stay unsettled for sunday, and also halloween monday. when the gates open, we've got a couple of

into the south bay, you have temperatures about 48 degrees around downtown. but look at that, 88 around the afternoon around cupertino. san francisco in the upper 70s, mid-80s around the north bay. even oakland, upper 80s to near 90. and the warmest spots around the tri-valley and seven-day forecast shows temperatures around san francisco, 80s and mid-70s as we go through the weekend. and notice for our inland locations, near 90 for tomorrow, and then cooling as we head towards wednesday and thursday. do want to point out a big shift in the pattern, once we get past the weekend, if you have plans towards the middle of next week, the pattern gets progressively more interesting by wednesday and thursday. good chance of rain making a big comeback. some of the early projections for that next week rain outlook for the middle part of the week could have a couple inches of rain, perhaps, out towards the north bay. in the meantime, summerlike weekend ahead around the bay area, good for fleet week, and you can see those valley temperatures pretty hot on saturday, trend

mid morning commute, north bay continue to see the rain. lunch time moving south into the peninsula in east bay. by 6:00 and 7:00 beginning to see rain approaching the south bay for the evening commute. the story this morning, those breezy conditions. >> there are advisories from chp from the san mateo highrise so be careful as you're crossing the bay. i don't think it's due to the winds. as we jump into the south bay, 280, we did have a tree down across lanes. good news, caltrans cleared that. remaining activity off the shoulder down 280. northbound, a little commute starting to slowdown north of 680 despite that patch of slowing. about 22 minutes for 101 from where it splits with 85 to where it joins with 85 in the north. faster for 85 if that's your route. >> thank you, mike. to that horrific bus crash in southern california. early reports suggest the bus was traveling way too fast when it slammed in the back of a semi truck. this killed 13 people and injured dozens more. the truck slowed down for overnight road work moments before the crash. it happened on int

through the south bay, your average is 79 expected in san jose. for the north bay, east bay, tri valley, just a few spots will remain here in the 80s. that includes livermore at 81. walnut creek, 81. oakland, that's my best weather tomorrow, 72 degrees and mostly sunny skies. so it really has been all about this area of high pressure just offshore, helping to bring some drier offshore winds that got temperatures to warm up the past two days. it starts to fade for tomorrow. this is key to the forecast. as that begins to fade, it's going to allow the next change to move in. the big thing i think for this weekend, on saturday and sunday, is the jetstream just basically starts to dip right off the coastline. i don't see anything showing rain for saturday and sunday. but certainly cooler and also cloudier. eventually we do have two different chances of that rain. let's spend time on the extended forecast. you can see in san francisco, your cloud cover for saturday and sunday. by monday, a decent chance with some rain coming back. also on tuesday, dry we

and yet weather will intercede in the south bay where showers continue to move on-shore over the santa cruz mountains. you see that we have in central and northern bay area locations but down in the south bay, look at all of the rain unwinding this morning. heavy cells as you climb over 17, they pick up more than three inches of rain overnight. and that is why they have coastal flood and flash flood watches this morning. up in the north bay the numbers it doesn't look too bad. we're in the 60s to start out with. the rain will mostly ease up today until late in the day. but flash flood watches posted all weekend. for the santa cruz mountains and shore line, high tides mean threat of strong rip currents and big breakers. if you go to the beach, temperatures this morning starting out in low 60s, dense fog out there. and there are widely scattered frogs, especially the one in my throat. do you think i can take the weekend off again? more showers on the way. more pressure. the washington state will continue pinwheel showers. rain totals an inch in oakland. concord quarter of an inch. we got

south bay may not pick up anything at all. it just dies on the vinyl heading south. totals 1/2 inch, peninsula up to .3-inch in the higher elevations. futurecast bears this out. by 10:00 tomorrow morning there's clouds over much of the bay area, but you don't see much green. so this is about done by sunrise tomorrow. then it lifts to the north. we clear from the south. usually we're looking at these storms that come into the bay area from the gulf of alaska coming down from this way, not so with what's happening on thursday. watch this part of your screen. i'm going to roll this ahead to thursday and bam, this stuff comes in from the subtropics focused more on the south bay. so thursday's storm looks more powerful and interesting because it's coming from an interesting direction down south and it has more moisture content. so we have more rain on thursday and certainly than we did last night, today and early tomorrow morning. right now numbers are mild, mostly mid-60s except for santa rosa, 56 degrees. in the north bay this is more of a rainmaker. showers tonight, lat
