out this map actually shows you the current quality levels and for the north bay, the east and south bays everywhere in the dark ul darker purple region that represents a poor air quality now smoke from this wildfire season is responsible for multiple weeks of unhealthy air quality right here in the bay area we've been breathing in all of this wildfire smoke and it's known to cause some short-term effects like shortness of breath, coughing and headaches. but doctors at ucsf say that prolonged exposure to smoke can actually increase the risk of developing chronic diseases. there are a couple of small studies that are showing us if you live around the wildfire smoke really. >>for long periods of time. exposed to this particular matter at high levels for a long time that actually does impair lung function and noted that seems to be the case at least a couple of years. but we also have no some other looking at air pollution so looking at say areas air pollution in general is say from and or exposure to factories that we know that air pollution in which wildfires are and some can we see little

we are going to see some of our high temperatures in the low 80s for the south bay but some upper 80s for the south county and we'll see a few spots still reaching into the 90s today. i'll talk more about this and also a chance of rain in the forecast for the weekend coming up in a few minutes. how is it looking for the early morning commute, mike? >>> kari, it's early, like you said, so fewer cars. there's one problem, though, i see slowing in oakland. in comparison to the rest of the bay, you'll have the green sensors, which we do. a little bit of slowing. a tiny bit out of the altamont. it is a terrific tuesday so far. as we get to 880 and the coliseum southbound side slows. not for construction. it's south of there. towards 66 we still have one lane blocked by a crash. minor injuries are reported. we may have two crashes going on trying to get vehicles to the shoulder so there is slowing as you're coming over the high rise at high street and then clear by the time you pass the coliseum. everything else is smooth in that direction. the opposite direction everything is clear now. mu
