for those of you in the south bay, but everyone else north bay, san francisco peninsula and east bay seeing widespread light rain. the heaviest right now just over and murray ville and south of berkeley that's where we're getting some pretty decent downpours there. but as you can see, that atmospheric river out in the pacific tapping into that plume of subtropical moisture from hawaii and it's going to combine with the storm out of the pacific northwest bringing us 24 hours and inches of rain when it is all said and done could be one for the record books specially for the month of october. we're already well above average as far as rain totals go. and we're getting more, in fact, are tracking futurecast for by sunday morning at 3 o'clock. we will see the heaviest rain over santa rosa and our north bay valleys specifically in between napa and sonoma county moderate rain for the san francisco peninsula and into the east bay. for those of you in the south bay, you won't really start to notice the impacts of that atmospheric river until sunday night. but sunday morning, it's just going to

to the south bay it is quiet from palo alto, fremont, san jose. f the day today it will remain quiet and in the south spain. cloudy skies and two bridges in the 70's. tomorrow you'll get more rain. it is mild and humid with rain.. upper 50's to mid 60's. in san mateo at 64 in san rose. a level 1 system today and -- in san jose. a level 1 system today. this afternoon i want to emphasize the rain is focused in the north bay. for a lot of us outside of the north bay it is mostly cloudy. it is also warmer with mid 60's to 70's for afternoon highs. tonight our next storm moves in. after sunset and tomorrow morning, widespread rain in the north bay and sinking south through the morning tomorrow. another mild night, upper 50's to low 60's that will bring rain to the south bay -- this storm will bring rain to the south bay tomorrow morning. tomorrow starts dry. tomorrow afternoon, light showers. our attention is focused sunday night into monday morning. this will likely bring heavy rain and strong wind to finish out the week. light showers today, tomorrow.

nothing down towards the south bay. once we hit about 8:00 in the morning we get the heavier rain over the north bay, continuing over the east bay and you're still rain shadowed in the south bay. it has a hard time developing because the higher elevations steal a lot of that moisture. then as we roll through the afternoon and the evening you'll start to see more consistent rainfall on sunday over the east bay and the peninsula. it's still going strong over the north bay but san jose again rain shadowed. as we head through the evening, you'll see at 7:30 at night on sundays we'll see that rainfall develop down over the south bay and this thing will kick out of here monday morning. get ready for these totals. this is just phenomenal. we couldn't get anything close to this if we tried for the past ten months. what you're going to see here is a massive bull's-eye of rain over the north bay. that gray to pink magenta color, that's anywhere from 2 to 4 inches. you can see the key at the top. a lot of the east bay and peninsula

but not much down there into the south bay. we'll have to go into the afternoon to get that consistent rainfall through the peninsula and east bay. south bay, you're still in that rain shadow, we call it a rain shadow because the santa cruz mountains seal a lot of that moisture. once we hit sunday evening, it moves right down into the south bay by about 7:30 into 9:30. we should see this storm system clear out once we hit monday morning. with that said, i did want to show, look at these totals, focusing on the north bay, that magenta pink color to gray, that's two to four inches of rain. that's a lot. we could see flooding specifically in the north bay. they're going to get hit the hardest. two inches on average in the east bay and peninsula. i still think we'll get in 3/4 inch to 1 inch. a lot happening. >> the 49ers, this is a big deal, sunday night football, the country will be watching. rain or shine, they're playing, unless, that's thunder? >> with an atmospheric river, there's always a chance for maybe some stray lightning

let's take a look at the south bay.ill got a lot of action on the screen. the north bay, significantly quieter than a few hours ago. still dealing with pockets of downpours in the south bay. we go down to the san jose foothills, some pockets of heavier rain with those pops of yellow. hercules, martinez, concord, antioch, we're seeing that yellow and even orange. that's heavier rain working through highway four. towards the pendency look, here is sfo, heavy rain over the airport in burlingame. still have some issues and i'm the north bay. flood warnings in effect for the early-morning hours for sebastopol, penn grove, petaluma. a flood advisory for the city of san francisco, the peninsula, parts of contra costa and alameda, some smaller streams and creeks overflowing their banks. it is a level for major storm -- four major storm, and will hold at that level until two or 3:00 tomorrow morning. by 4:00 a.m., some scattered showers. by 8 a.m., it is all out of fear. we will take a look at the seven day forecast and show you

friday, rain from the north bay to the south bay, over the east bay.ll push on out of here by 10:00 a.m. friday. about half to threef an inch. rain shadowed again in the south bay. beyond that, some much higher totals in the forecast. let's spend some time on the seven-day. you see in san francisco, we'll keep temperatures in the 60s through the next several days. eventually getting drier weather by tuesday. and 60s continuing for the inland areas. and from thursday into friday, a quarter to one inch. looking at higher totals over the north bay. lesser for the south bay. then the third system beginning to arrive once we hit saturday night. it's going to be really slow to move in saturday night. then we'll see the rain chances continue into sunday. and potentially into monday. so from saturday night into monday, that's where we get into some of those high totals of 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches. we'll see some of the rain shadowed valleys. in the south bay, not as much. but with the coastal mountains in the north bay, that's where we'll see higher totals. we'll h

south 3 we have our storm ranger. seeing some of that rain. half-moon bay as well. and so right now, nothing yet in the south bay. nothing in mountain view. fremont, but look on the way. this is going to be making its way in within the next 10, 15, 20 minutes or so into portions of the south bay and also the santa cruz mountains as well i'm going to take you through the timeline of the big storm we're tracking heading into the weekend. >> this is not the big one, but it looks big when it looks like at this chunkier version. east shore freeway, it came over from the north bay. colting down the peninsula it will be hitting 101. now south of the bridge, everything is a lot lighter and it's fine right now, but the big rain is starting to move in. the big deal is not on the freeway. in the south bay, we have the pd continuing with an investigation of a deadly crash here at metcalf road. the alternate is 101. but police are have closed that intersection. so we'll have to avoid that. that's important for the southern portion. and an important note. we're talking about solo crashes, which may be more common as the rain c

the peninsula, 52, south bay, 53. east bay coming in with low 50s along with san francisco and to the north bay, we'll begin again the coldest weather of the down to 47 degrees. daytime highs tomorrow. i see them warming up between four to seven degrees. we'll go from the cold mid 60s into some low 70s. that will make it comfortable. san jose, 72. gilroy, 74. 75 in concord. you might have your jacket for all of the day from daly city to half moon bay. palo alto, i got you up to 72. san francisco, we are going with 68 in the mission and 67 in down. if you're headed to san francisco for fleet week, make sure to take your sunglasses. we won't have to worry about fog at all for the air show. it looks phenomenal. maybe just maybe, fleet week and then over to oracle park. 66 for the pregame and it looks good all the way through ball game in the 50s and 60s. back to my forecast, if you're going to wine country, napa, 74 degrees. my seven-day forecast, we are coming in with plenty of 60s as we head through the next seven-day f

not as much towards the south bay. as we hit 7:30 in the morning, still rain shadowed down here in san jose but the heaviest rain is in the north bay and also the east bay. now, because of the heaviest rain to the north, we do have flash flood watches that are up right now, also including the santa cruz mountains. that's where streams, creeks and rivers could rise fast and the fire burn zones could have some flooding weekend, we have storm ranger. it is our doppler radar, our mobile doppler radar. we've got a live view of that right now and you can see it's hoisted up on the back. this is the only one in the bay area and gives us a more accurate scan because it's closer to the ground. it's a dual pole radar which scans in the vertical and horizontal to give us better detail of that rain, again, our team and storm ranger will track it for you. >>> a lot of local cities will have to deal with flooding. nbc bay area's christie smith has the latest in san francisco. >> reporter: there are plans for several low-lying areas i

all the higher elevations stealing that moisture from the south bay. by 3:00 p.m. sundays continuous heavy rain over the north bay, the east bay, picking up through the peninsula. then eventually by sunday night we'll start to get in on the rainfall down there towards the south bay. now, this should by all accounts begin to move out once we hit monday morning and then we'll be undergoing another a little break. rainfall totals, as i mentioned, off the charts. look at this up in the north bay. the magenta to pink color and the gray, that's 2 to 4 plus inches. right around 2 inches for the east bay and the peninsula. rain shadowed for the south bay but i think you'll be in three-quarter to around 1 inch range at this point. the wind will also pick up, 20 to about 45 miles per hour, so wet and windy on sunday. on my seven-day forecast, we do get some dry weather in here once we hit next wednesday, thursday and friday. for the inland valley, it stays chilly with eventually dry weather. as we've been mentioning, sunday for that 49ers game on nbc, it will be wet certainly

the south bay has seen very little rainfall. filling in as we speak as the yellow approach as of the south bay. look at the 24 hour rainfall. canfield is coming in with more than 12 inches of rain. more than 8 inches of rainfall here. we have seen issues elsewhere from oakland to san francisco. more than 3 inches of rainfall. more than 5 inches of rainfall in danville. 4.5 inches of rain in concord. very low totals in the south bay. those numbers will increase over the next couple of hours. flood advisories and flood warnings. you can see all those areas shaded in green. we have flooded roadways, excessive runoff. a similar story for parts of the east bay. we have seen a lot of rain. flood advisories are in effect this evening. one of the better issues we have been dealing with is the window backing off finally. we had wind gusts. the wind right now is windy in spots but nowhere near as strong as they were earlier today. this is a level four major storm we are tracking. the strong wind is backing off. we see numerous powder -- w

friday over the north bay, east bay, peninsula, south bay. it will be pretty quick moving here and kick out about 10:00 a.m. on friday. rainfall totals with this on average about .5 to .75 inches for a lot of the bay area. north bay toward contra costa county county, alameda counties, a lot of the peninsula. rain shadowing going on for the southern peninsula and san jose, so the mountains are stealing a lot of the moisture, not leaving as much in san jose, .25 inches or less. rain shadow with that second storm down toward the south bay. beyond that, we are talking about that sunday storm system. and this is definitely going to have what's called an atmospheric river tap. it's a copious amount of moisture, some subtropical moisture that builds in the pacific. saturday night, we're starting to get that rainfall moving in here towards the bay area. then watch, there is that atmospheric river lining up right there. it's going to be pointed to the north over eureka by sunday morning, and then watch as we head through sunday night. you can see how t

after that fremont into the south bay also active in across the north bay. very active as well. through nevado now completely waterlogged clear lake on over into portions of solano county as well as further south into napa and sonoma counties. very wet conditions, especially across those mountain passes. this is that cold front that's bringing us this next wave of energy, the situated to the north and west of us. and that's actually going to situate us with an atmospheric river. so while this morning we are in a burst of rainfall and actually scoots out after your morning commute and the rest of the day after this looks to be nice and dry good opportunity for this rain to soak into the ground like we needed to and then prep a little bit before next wave of energy moves in tomorrow. tomorrow around 11:00am starting to see some showers in the north bay after that into the afternoon. we'll start to see it elsewhere across the bay area. then into sunday morning. some very heavy rain makes its return. this is technically our first atmosphere river shot right into the bay and that's w
