as we zoom in to the south bay. expect a high of 78 degrees in san jose, 81 in east san jose and in gilroy will be in the low 80s for much of the east bay. in the mid to upper 80s. so you're going to notice it's a bit warmer today compared to yesterday. as we get into the middle of the afternoon in walnut creek, it will be 85 also 85, in martinez and in oakland, upper 70s, upper 60s for half moon bay. and those gusty winds continue in san francisco up to 68 in downtown san francisco, 78 in mill valley and napa. today, 85 for that high temperature. looking ahead, we are going to see a lot of changes going into the weekend. a nice little cool down, but this low will be dipping in going into late sunday into early next week. that may bring in a chance of rain. we'll really be watching this cierra for some rain and possibly some upper elevation snow. so as we take a look at our 7-day forecast, we are going from some very seasonable temperatures to a little bit of a cool down and a nice little taste of fall for early next

the south bay celebrating a very big anniversary this weekend. e sap center is hosting its 5,000th event today in the bay'. kris sanchez joins us with a look back and a look ahead. i remember when it opened in the early 90s. it was 31 years ago is when it actually opened. laura. so you were just a baby back then? i'm surprised that you would remember that. this is a big celebration. you can see the setup here for the ringling brothers greatest show on earth, and we'll talk about that in just a moment. but this has been a south bay institution. i want to show you some of the history here. we are talking 31 years since the doors opened here in the south bay. in that time, 50 million visitors have come through for all kinds of events, from circuses to monster truck shows to concerts to gymnastics and tennis and all of that. $20 million in annual tax revenue. and that's just from the sharks alone. speaking of the sharks, they are negotiating their next ten year contract to remain here at the shark tank, and they promise a $1.25 billion economic impact

and in the south bay. o for the east bay, where it's going to be hazy for the afternoon and very quickly our temperatures will be heating up. so take a look at the heat advisory that will be in effect for much of the east bay, the south bay into the santa cruz mountains. this in effect for today and most likely tomorrow as well. our highs will head into the upper 90s clear lake today 96 degrees. we'll see about the same in napa and santa rosa. 99 in concord and livermore today, 97 degrees in the south bay. it's in the low 90s for san jose, but then for the south county. well, look at gilroy, 99, very close to 100 degrees today and will be 81 in san mateo. then going into the day tomorrow, some of the coastal areas and parts of the bay will get some slight relief, but it is still going to be hot in the valleys, and we're going to be at 95 in dublin and some mid 90s. also for much of the north bay. then on wednesday this is when it will give us a little taste of fall with highs in the 60s and 70s from the coa

happening today in the south bay. new help may be coming when it comes to responding to people in crisis. today in the bay's bob redell live for us this morning. and bob, there's really a big vote right now taking place later today. correct. the san jose city council could vote. marcus and laura to expand non-law enforcement. crisis response for people who are having a mental health crisis or issues with substance abuse. this would be an expansion of santa clara county's trusted response urgent support team, or trust for short. it launched in november of last year and is intended to de-escalate situations without police involvement. although the teams are trained in behavioral health. they do have the authority to place people on a 72 hour hold for their own safety. if the council agrees, the city would commit up to $450,000 for a one year period. but mayor matt mahan of san jose tells us there are strings attached. the county has to provide annual reporting on how many calls, how long was the wait time? how many times

parts of the south bay into the south county, and pretty much all of the east bay away from parts of the inner bay. so you're going to see those temperatures cranking up today, but also it will look hazy outside as our air quality turns moderate, which we do typically see on these hotter days. the air isn't mixing out as much. we don't have as much of a breeze, and all of those pollutants make our air quality a little bit more unhealthy and will be moderate for today. so as we take a look at what to expect, our temperatures go from mid 50s in the morning here into the low 80s, so even the city will be warming up with a high of 84 degrees in the north bay. it's going to be in the mid 90s this afternoon, 96 in moraga, concord, 99 degrees and 92 in san jose. tomorrow in some spots it's about the same, while other areas get some slight relief. we'll see that in the peninsula as well as the south bay, with san jose's high going from low 90s to upper 80s. so we're making some progress. and in san francisco and along the coast on wednesday, it is much cooler as we see those highs drop back

all right, now to an ongoing problem in the south bay. businesses are being broken into having their safes cracked. last week we told you about bars being targeted. well, now we're learning restaurants are in the crosshairs. so let's go ahead and bring in our damian trujillo live in campbell. damien, you actually got some surveillance video to show us. reporter. yeah, and you know, audrey, the owner here of a kirk's steakburgers in campbell says he shared this information, his surveillance video with other restaurant owners around the south bay and bar owners. and he says they match about ten different victims say they've been hit by similar crimes in the last few months or so. now, we checked with san jose police. they tell us that there doesn't seem to be a growing trend. they say the safe stealing of safes is always a popular thing with crooks, whether it be residential or in a business. but the merchants tell me that no, they've compared notes, and they feel strongly that at least ten of these incidents around the south bay can be att

let's take you through those daytime highs for tomorrow down here across the south bay. not too gusty. 97 in san jose, 99 in milpitas, over to the east bay. hottest widespread weather. once you head over those east bay hills back into the inland valleys. hunter and one in walnut creek, 100 in pleasanton, 102 in antioch. and that is warm for you in hayward. at 91 coastal areas. half moon bay, 69 out to redwood city, 96. that's also a scorcher for you in san mateo at 90. san francisco 84. in the mission, 83 in downtown and right here for the north bay. 101 in sonoma, 100 in napa. so numbers start to cool off. once we hit friday and saturday, we'll see this area of low pressure moving close by. so that will help to begin to drop temperatures. but the way that's setting up with high pressure over the desert southwest is going to help to conveyer belt in some tropical moisture. so right now some rain and thunderstorm chances for the sierra by friday and saturday. also southern california right now we're dry, but we're going to continue to of course, closely watch that radar ri

this will continue our temperatures down here in the 50s throughout the bay area, with 58 in the south bay. double fives in the tri valley, san francisco 54 and right here for the east bay 57. temperatures through tomorrow. again, i don't see any problems down here across the south bay. it's going to leave us with 84 in los gatos, 82 in cupertino, some low 80s, morgan hill and gilroy right back to contra costa, alameda counties. we'll get into some isolated heat, but i think at this point we'd stay out of the 90s. that would put us to 87. antioch 84. in pleasanton and 75 in oakland, redwood city, 77. then if you're headed to the beaches or san francisco, we're going to remain in the 60s tomorrow. 69, in the mission, 64 in the marina. and let's get you off here to the north bay, 85 in napa, 78 mill valley and 87 in ukiah. okay, looking beyond this, we are expecting some changes by this weekend. the weather pattern is going to begin to shift a little bit here for us by sunday and monday we'll see our next system dropping down. and there's a little bit of debate right now on exactly where thi

today it's going to be unhealthy or most unhealthy in the south bay, santa clara valley, as well as theast bay, but pretty moderate elsewhere. and our temperatures are going to be very hot. dangerous for the middle of the afternoon, with concord high topping 105 degrees. so we will gradually cool off. i'll have more on that in a few minutes. and mike, you have a look at some predictable changes in san jose. san jose, we know it's 539 now as the clock changes we should see this slowing. and that's what we do have visible on our camera here on 101 northbound with these headlights starting to slow down just right about here. our cameras just south of alum rock. and you see the slowing up to 880 itself. and that will last for about 20 minutes, kind of start to ease up by 6:00 and then kick in again in about an hour from now. looking at the rest of the bay, a smooth flow of traffic, pretty predictable as you come through the tri valley and east bay. a little more traffic. there seems to be a new crash 880 north of the coliseum, so we'll check once chp gets the grid there. but i do know that

in the south bay bay area. residents there are up in arms over a proposal to turn a tiny homes facility that's usually used for homeless people into a jail diversion site. santa clara county's behavioral health services announced that it intends to use an 8 million dollar state grant to buy the emergency homeless housing site at monterey in for non. also another on vermont to use as a jail diversion program they say will help people with mental illness. substance use disorders or both. the county is still looking for ways to address behavior. health problems without sending people to jail neighborhood. residents are voicing their concerns. >> its absolutely appalling. that worries me. it's a concern and i don't understand why they would pick. this neighborhood as opposed to plenty other neighborhoods. why? why? why here? >> residents say they're worried about how the homes will be maintained in a way that can keep the neighborhood safe. some claim the majority of the shelter, space and homeless solutions are in

low 90s around the bay shoreline and mid 90s to upper 90s down in the south bay. ve a heat advisory that will be in effect from 11 a.m. today to 11 p.m. tomorrow. for all areas except those locations right around the bay shoreline and along the coast. and of course, under these elevated heat conditions, there is an increased risk of emergency in rancho palos verdes because of a landslide that's making homes too dangerous to live in. amanda is tracking the latest on this from the live desk. >> yeah. kumasi be ready to evacuate. that's the warning being relayed to homeowners in the city of rancho palos verdes, outside of los angeles. now, a landslide in the city's sea view neighborhood is threatening homes and buckling roads. severe storms and rain over the past two years is said to be the cause of the accelerated land movement. the land beneath some of these homes is sliding at least 9 to 12in per week. power has been shut off to more than 200 homes. residents say they've lost the ability to live normal lives. >> unbelievable. in the last four months, it's constant.

a cache of weapons seized from a home in the south bay. the case that prompted officials to go to the location. plus east bay area. >> we find thousands of plants and hundreds of pounds of product on a regular basis. >> and officials say more and more of the raids of illegal pot farms are happening in one east bay city a raid of a south bay home, the santa clara county sheriff's office says 37 year old christopher roberts is accused of making illegal explosive devices as well as guns. he was prevented from having firearms, all due to his involvement in a domestic violence case. deputies went to his home yesterday in san jose and say they found three guns, including an assault rifle, ammunition fuzes, cylinder tubes and large amounts of black powder, all of which were seized. roberts was arrested and booked into the santa clara county jail, where he faces several charges. and oakland police officer will not be charged in connection to a cannabis control raid at his home or at the home he owns in antioch. ktvu jana katsuyama explains why, and
