the moisture, especially that very southern end of the bay area this morning so do expect some heavier showers the morning, especially the further south in the bay, you get at times this moisture water rise a little bit further northward. that means areas like san francisco contra costa solano counties will also be getting into the mix and also looking at the potential of isolated heavy downpours maybe even a roll of thunder too we saw some hail in spots yesterday. that's also potential today as we see this afternoon convection that thunderstorm building and you do see those isolated cells popping up as we work our way later this morning on into the afternoon. so generally your heavier totals of rainfall will be for the south bay as well as for portions of the east bay, the further north you get you will see more isolated burst of heavier rainfall now as we work our way towards 10:45pm tonight, look at a lot less activity out there we really start to quiet down at least take a step a foot off the gas pedal as we work our way into the evening tomorrow morning a couple of showers possible and then the rest of your friday a much needed a

got this traffic alert at the dublin interchange, a lot of accidents just coming in in the south bay, an area where mary says we are getting a lot of rain. be extra careful if commuting out of the south bay. 580 west bound at 680 under the dublin interchange area, a multi vehicle accident blocking at least two lanes. traffic is really slow as you approach the scene. we've got brake lights forming out of the altamont pass out of tracy getting onto 580. travel times are 34 minutes, 205 to 680, no word from chp as to when the lanes will reopen on 580 but the back up is significant. give yourself extra minutes or an alternate if we had an earlier trouble spot on 237 near milpitas. that is in the clearing stages but traffic is busy. west bound we are seeing brake lights as you work your way off of that 880 connector. trouble spot east bound 237 before lawrence expressway. other accidents to look for, north bound 101 before oakland road, you will see brake lights due to a crash to the right f e south 680 at king, we are getting word of a trouble spot. north bound 101 before tully road. south bound

fox two news at six, right now, the south bay is getting drenched once again, is that atmospheric river? we have been tracking stalls right above the burn scar area in the santa cruz mountains. showers are actually showing a bit more infants strength. then what was initially expected. tonight the storm is much more isolated as it continues to pound the south bay, leaving the rest of the bay area wet but relatively unscathed. hello again, everyone. i'm julie julie haener. i'm frank somerville right now. a flash flood warning is in effect for the area around the season. you lightning complex fire, and that's why mandatory evacuation orders are still in effect for parts of san mateo and santa cruz counties. near the burn scar. the orders impacted several 100. people in san mateo county and about 5000 in santa cruz county. this video was taken earlier today on pacific avenue and santa cruz. you can see just how hard the rain was coming down in monterey county, flooding and mud flows of caused damage to at least 20 homes. today people who live in the south salinas area went back to check on the damage and in some cases get horses that were trapped in

many areas in the south bay area between one and two inches, in oakland and san francisco, an inch ander two inches of rain there, same thing with vacville and livermore. on lake tahoe, a fresh blanket of snow on the ground. dangerous winter travel conditions. one to two feet of additional snow is expected, up to three feet for the highest peaks. temperatures right now in the 40s and 50s. you'll notice that things are beginning to quiet down across parts of the bay area, but done yet. so ili it's a level 2 for tonig. burn scar threat remains even though that flash flood watch was just dropped at 5:00. any additional rain on saturated ground could cause problems at least for the next few hours, so we'll keep it in the forecast. as we look at the hour-by-hour timeline around 9:00 p.m., still showers tomorrow morning, isolated showers between 4:00 and 7:00 a.m., so we really don't have to worry about much after that. it's going to be done and moving on out. additional rainfall totals, up to a third of an inch for weather locations, a few hundredths temperatures will be dropping to freezin

the chp tells us south bay 101 has reopened. >>> and the slide danger is have he real this morning. bay area based emergency responders are in monterey county helping with all of this. this is a mudslide in a burn zone that damaged homes and buildings there. the drama played out in south salinas. two people were injured as they tried to escape the wall of mud. dozens of horses had to be rescued and two dozen homes and barns were damaged road. firefighters went late into the night sandbagging to try to divert the water from the home of the path of a slide and the property owner says he dug a trench which he thinks helped avoid the worse of it. >> i don't know if it saved the house but sure probably saved a lot of damage. this is the most water i've seen come confirmed to us that the north bay direction of 101 near gonzalez is still closed because of all that flooding. >>> happening today the flash flood watch in effect in the santa cruz mountains as well. thousands of people in the burn zone area have been warned or ordered to leave their homes. san lorenzo valley high school is the only evac

area. we are dealing with a lot of rain especially for the south bay. tracking it for you on high def doppler, you see heavy rain for all the south bay, san jose, and the santa cruz county area, santa cruz mountains and especially watching the lightning complex as they have seen with this storm system anywhere from about four to six inches of rain and then more rain as we head through today. as we look to the san jose we hen for the halfnch an inch coming down. see rain from sunn cupertino, campbell, heavy rain from milpitas, livermore, palo alto. heavy rain from 680 and 580 and some rain in antioch. we are looking at the flash flood watch for all our burn scar area. this is a big concern for us and it is still in effect through this afternoon. in the north bay from the scu lightning complex, czu lightning complex fires, burn scar areas in santa cruz mountains, that flash flood watch that is in effect. showing you the czu lightning complex burn scar, as we head through today, we che or inch and a half, inch and three quarters for the czu lightning comple

along the north coast out of the coastal range and the trinity's high pressure to our south will keep areas, south of the bay area dry and increasingly sunny. we're just one right at the cusp of those showers that will be mostly hanging out right to our north across those northern counties you can see those showers moving in and out right across mendocino county on into the afternoon today couple of coastal sprinkles here and they're showing up on radar but those chances are very minimal will have peaks of sunshine at times today, but the for the most part remaining pretty cloudy. as we make our way into tomorrow morning showers continue for the north coast and some heavy rain at times once you head up into humble county bay area though just continues to remain dry. we do continue to see the cloud cover today and tomorrow from this passing system just too far south to be tapping into any of that much needed moisture at least our northern neighbors are getting into the mix as far as the rainfall they'll be saying far as temperatures go today, not a big change from where we have been it's back to the upper 50'

area. any people spend the night in hotels in neighboring communities. thousands of south bay residents ordered to evacuate just ahead of the atmospheric river that pummeled the area overnight. hey, interviews. elissa harrington brings us that story. this'll was the rain in boulder creek overnight, a non stop downpour, the national weather service reported. half an inch of rain fell in just 15 minutes. this was near the ccu lightning complex burn scar, whether like this in that area where wildfires burned over the summer posed a major concern for emergency officials once oil does become burned. to that extent it no longer absorbs water once those mudslides or did grief flows start. you can't stop them. there's nothing you can do, it's probably too late. more than 5000. people were told to pack up and leave the area in case of debris floor mud slides down in the city of san jose residents near parts of the guadalupe river along willow street and ross creek were also told to prepare for flooding. this is what the river looked like when we checked it out. the water stayed several

overnight last night and we saw the atmospheric river begin to make its way back into the bay area to the south bay in the santa cruz mountains certainly some heavy rainfall there. the good news is flash flood watches have been discontinued although we see pockets of some very heavy rainfall. so certainly still be a possibility to get some localized flooding in some of these storms that are coming through right now heavier storms in and around the watsonville area and have tossed a little further to the east now right along one o one that's just a rough commute tonight at the very heavy rainfall has been coming down i've been checking some of these rain rates right in around one o one we're looking at almost an inch an hour so it's pretty fierce out there right now and kind of broken nose, you make your way back in the san jose more scattered light showers there a few light showers in parts of fallout though a los altos hills portola valley also in the east bay. >>continue to see more scattered light showers with things beginning to settle down certainly we could see a wandering make his way in

bay area. on top of what we've already seen so we've already got saturated soils that's the concern and we do still have flash flood advisories for the south bay mountains like the santa cruz and diablo range is temperatures are in the 40's and 50's right now it's a mild start to this morning. so don't worry so much about staying, nice and cozy just worry about staying dry bring the rain jacket and the umbrella as you venture out now as far as roadways goes. we have had some issues this morning reyna harvey has been all over it giving you the latest and where we're standing right now much good, you know yet sigalerts earlier during the 4 o'clock hour. >>lot of roadway flooding. but now looks like he's still got really flooding, but your commute looks much better. if you're commuting into the city that fremont street exit look at that here you're under 10 minutes, we still have a high wind for the bay bridge. so give yourself more time as you're traveling if your community to cost to the peninsula the san mateo bridge under 15 minutes that looks great as traffic makes way across those very slick roadways and bridges. the richmond sandra fel

heavy winds a lot of that has moved to the south and east now out into the central valley and the central coast. we still do have activity here in the bay area just a lot less widespread and a lot less intense. let's start with the south bay, a line of showers continues to move just south of the tri valley and we are still seeing rainfall for morgan hill down to gilroy it's lighter stuff though san jose it's pretty quiet for you as it is also in the santa cruz mountains where the scu or the s e s eu complex fire and the csu complex fires. bowl there in the south bay and the blows in the santa cruz mountains have seen at least conditions coming down this morning which is good news. it's calm right now for the tri valley, but what you have right here in north from richmond on over towards antioch is an uptick rain that is going to be working its way down south your direction you can see that line of showers here stretching from marin county on over the richmond sandra fell bridge. right apd into the laiho fairfield and eventually up towards vacaville too. these showers are moving gradually further and further, especially to the east southeast

you may be dry one minute but don't anticipate that to last for a long across the bay area, let's take a look at the south bay because this is an area that has proven to be especially problematic and worrisome, especially right around the burn scar of the czu complex fire which i have highlighted in red outline there you can see that conditions have calmed down around the burn scar of that fire. that heavy rain that's now on the right side of your screen has moved its way out of that region. so that is a bit of good news. but earlier this morning, this area was in the midst of some of those heavier showers it is calm down now right around that burn scar as for future cast of rainfall totals we still do have more rainfall on the way today, those totals will really start to rise again into the latter part of the day and evening tonight after scattered showers this afternoon we will see an uptick in rainfall intensity moving into the evening tonight and by the time we work our way into tomorrow early morning you can see areas like novato seeing the potential of an additional inch of rainfall, san francisco c

from time to time you see these bands of rain that are still moving across the bay area right now first let's start south because you can see the remnants of what we had moving across the bay area last night is that widespread heavy stuff that is now traverse south and the east of san jose gilroy you are just in the midst of some of the heavier of it now making its way out of your neck of the woods, but one oh one is very wet right now because you're one of our most recent spots that just made it through some of those heavier showers also in the vicinity of the czu complex fire up in the santa cruz mountains you saw rain falling at an intensity of over half an inch over just a half an hour period. right there around that burn scar which is why we did have those flash flood watches in effect they're actually still in effect down in that area especially san jose, it's calm down for you now, but there are still some scattered showers right around your neck of the woods. let's go to the east bay right here there's 2 lines of light showers pushing through right now an embedded in there a couple spots where ra

>> heavy rain continues to come down in the south bay, especially further into the santa clara valley. we have numerous showers all around the bay area, but that is the heaviest rainfall, focused further down 101 from san jose. let's zoom in for a closer look here. we have light showers in the north bay keeping an eye out for debris flow issues there as well. right now, of course we are zoomed in on where the heaviest rain is still coming down. moderate rain in san jose, then it gets heavier as you had further east and southeast e il pockets of moderate and heavy rain within the santa cruz mountains. we still have about another hour to go for this flash flood warning that overlaps with the czu burn scar. as this emerges from the south i think new warnings will have to replace that, whether that happens right at 6:30 or they wait a little bit for the next wave of more substantial moisture to arrive. we will keep you updated on that. the moisture again is just being sent up towards us by the bulk of this atmospheric river with the heaviest rain being aimed further to our south, but plenty of the bay area is getting in on all of this ra

right now, most of the bay area is under this heavy rain. the south, you're waiting on things to really pick up for you but we're just a couple of hours away from that. so let's start it right now with a look at our flood watches and warnings, and the biggest threat is in the fire burn zones. that's where we had the highest threat of mudslides. in santa cruz mountains, on tap for three to six inches of rain for some of the highest peaks. radar will show again, we are under the worst of thisight r now, over the peninsula, and the east bay. you already had it bad in the north bay. it's starting to move off towards the south. so we'll put a track on this, and this heavy rain over oakland will continue off into walnut creek through midnight. and through the peninsula, also heavy rain in bell lamont moving on to the east. definitely after midnight and it's continuing for us. over the santa cruz mountains, getting hit and hard, right over scotts valley and surrounding locations. you can sew a brand new flash flood warning in effect for mudslides that could

of some of those showers in a band of rainfall also just south of stretching down towards highway 37 right along san pablo bay, one of those areas that we're really focusing in on is the sec s u.s. ze huge fire burn scar. so many birds cars with 3 letters and the south bay is where we are looking at those multiple advisories, including right here in the santa cruz mountains i have the burn scar outlined in red right here. we had a very intense rainfall there in the vicinity of this burn scar last night and continue this morning. we have actually had some debris is making its way on the roadways. those those advisories are still in effect rainfall tohals today will vary a lot in short distances because of the nature of today's rain we're going to see pop-up areas of heavy rainfall with embedded thunderstorms in them. some areas won't see as much rain as other areas in the pretty near distance so just be ready for some heavy rain even into the afternoon right now temperatures are in the 40's and 50's won't be much different than this this afternoon so get ready for a cool and wet day as you step outside reyna john thank you so no

to pull through the bay area but as we do see some showers in the north bay, they just dissipate as across the golden gate so areas on the peninsula, san francisco east bay and southg in the mix as far as that rain goes well or north bay neighbors can expect some late afternoon and early evening showers futurecast of rainfall totals gives an even better perspective of this nevado around a quarter of an inch of rain while napa and santa rosa could see a 10th of an inch of rain so some light amounts of rainfall but then you go south of the golden gate and not a lot to talk about san francisco in concord may see a sprinkle or 2 that's about all of them as for temperatures today also quite the variety san francisco northward on along the coastline holding on to the 50's well temperatures right along the bayshore further south on the peninsula and into the south bay will be among our warmest back into the low 60's today for san jose not a bad one is going to be dry a little cloudy but highs in the low 60's. now the further north you get the gradually cooler those temperatures become we'll only be in the 50's for oakland berkeley richmond in concord and then in the nort

south. you can see san francisco a couple of pockets through there. at the north bay a little bit of a break in the petaluma areanitely getting some heavier pockets for santa cruz and san jose light to moderate and same with gilroy area and morgan hill. we do have these showers pushing through the over night hours. it is going to remain light to moderate. our next area for concerns is going to be the wind as this cool front passes through, we are expecting gusty conditions especially for the coastal areas and of course the san francisco area. that wind advisory is expected to take in effect at 7:00 p.m., strongest gusts of 45 to 50. 60 plus miles per hour, the national weather service advising. please keep in mind as we head into the over night hours. look at san francisco into the over night hours, 40 plus miles per hour winds and petaluma and livermore area. we are not in the clear just yet. it is a cap of moisture that taps in on tuesday night into wednesday. it could bring high rain and the possibility of seeing some high rainfall totals especially for the mountain areas tuesday into wednesday night. in addi
