from our vantage point on this boat a few miles off the coast of myrtle beach, south carolina, the weatherg conditions are perfect for a second day in a row. also perfect from our fox news drone high above the debris field. however, those conditions are expected to deteriorate into the weekend, which could make a salvage operation really difficult. here right now, though, the water is still and calm and perfect for it. the u.s. navy has been working day and night. yesterday they brought in an unmanned underwater vehicle which will help locate small pieces of china's spy air ship sitting 50 feet below over a 15 square football field size debris field. the pathfinder is equipped with sonar to map the sea floor. u.s. navy released images showing most if not all the debris from on the surface of the water has been recovered. the challenge now will be finding debris under water which is constantly shifting. we spoke to a local salvage business owner about those challenges. >> we had probably 4 to 5 years ago actually had a plane go down off myrtle beach in 20 to 25 foot of water. very favorable

joining us is nbc's george solace in myrtle beach, south carolina. also with us, amiral james stavridis. george, what more can you tell us about the recovery efforts right now? >> reporter: good morning, jose. we know navy divers and recovery ships are out there in the motion trying to get more of that debris and possibly equipment that was attached to that balloon. the warning from officials here in the carolinas is, if some of that debris starts to wash onshore, to remind the people and the tourists not to touch any of it, leave it be, do not take it home. if you are messing with it, that could be interfering with a federal investigation. as you know, the pentagon says most of this debris fell in about 47 feet of water which should help with moving some of this debris fairly quickly, as they anticipated this falling in deeper water. they still haven't given an exact timeline. we were able to see ships off in the distance presumably beginning search and recovery efforts again. at this time of day, it's so bright out there. you may not be able to see

griff jenkins and we begin the bryan llenas after the coast of myrtle beach, south carolina. at's happening this hour? >> good morning. the conditions this morning much better than they were yesterday as the salvage operation continues. we're on a boat six miles off the coast of myrtle beach. our fox news drone team has footage of the salvage operation. you can't see much from where we're at. from the air you can make out those ships that are doing this salvage operation. we're told the majority of the debris on the surface has been picked up by the military and is making its way to the f.b.i. lab in quantico. this operation is now moving towards an underwater operation. debris is 50 feet under water where they are trying to get the pieces of china's spy air ship. we're told it's the size of a regional aircraft several thousand pounds, debris field the size of 15 football fields by 15 football fields. monday morning the u.s. ns pathfinder began mapping the ocean floor using sonar and underwater vehicle technology to locate the debris. it is collected on board the u.s.s. carter
