we are watching two key races in south carolina. that's where two gop members of the house are fighting to win renomination, both facing candidates backed by the former president. representative tom rice is one of ten house republicans that voted to impeach former president trump after the insurrection at the capitol. representative nancy mace didn't vote to impeach trump but refused to join if pack of house republicans who tried to block certification of joe biden's victory and has been aligning herself with the former president ever since. and polls just closed in nevada where a trump-backed candidate is running for the republican senate nomination. and in south carolina we're seeing more results coming in. and that's why i have the best of the best with me right now. straight away to mr. john king at the magic wall and cnn's political director, mr. david chalian. thank you so much. john, key primaries tonight, polls just closed in nevada. what's happening there? >> don, you see this is the senate republican primary map in gray. w

district in south carolina.is the one where democrats could look at, there is a heavily democratic district that jim clyburn represents that republicans don't have a chance in. south carolina is the closest thing there is to a tossup district in the state. it leans republican, but as joe cunningham showed in 2018 under the right circumstances it could be winnable for a democrat. that is because you have charleston, you have some liberal, some very conservative areas here. more typical of the rest of the state. but you've got some liberal areas. certainly in and around charleston to balance it out so it becomes more politically competitive and that is the one of the arguments that mace is making to republicans in this campaign. she's say, hey, i can win this district in 2020 when i beat joe cunningham and jody airington lost to joe cunningham. so there is a general election electability argument that plays out there primaries that you don't see in the rest of the state. and you get from airington, 2022 is a very

he split in south carolina.e candidate who won he was going after was really trying to run back toward him. in some ways that might have been a victory for him. the big win for trump in south carolina, the 7th district, russell fry who had donald trump's endorsement. look at this margin. better than two to one. this is a ten-year incumbent republican congressman tom rice, absolutely trounced. fry getting more than 50%, wins this outright. there will be no runoff here. this is rice who voted to impeach donald trump. this was the first time we saw an incumbent republican who voted to impeach trump face republican voters with trump backing somebody else. take a look inside this district, obviously fry swept the district the heart of the district is here. this is the county. half the district, you're talking myrtle beach, conway. this county right here was donald trump's strongest county in the state when he ran for president back in 2016 in the republican primaries. so that's the kind of place that rice was running

pull up south carolina. votes coming in a little more quickly than nevada but we're several hours in now. this is very interesting here. the seventh district russell frey is donald trump's candidate here, a conservative running against the incumbent. tom rice had that seat since 2012 and won big in the tea party year. he is getting 25% of the vote right now, disappointing for a republican incumbent who represented the district for a decade. 99% of the vote in. we're still tallying the final votes. the 50% plus one you avoid a run-off and he would be the republican nominee in a very republican district. it looks like tom rice will be defeated. he voted to impeach donald trump and republican voters appear ready to punish him. the other grudge match is down in the first district, charleston, and further south along the coast nancy mace the incumbent trump wanted to lose here and endorsed katie arrington, a closer race, 53 to 45 but significantly at the moment nancy mace is still above 50. if we look at the dist

what do we know about that's races in south carolina?nk the big picture of why we're looking at these two races is because we're a continuation of what we're calling trump's revenge tour. he's going around the country in 2022 backing primary challengers who gop incumbents who he views as disloyal. here in south carolina that's nancy mace who called for the censuring of him and even the potential of blocking him from running from public office in the future and tom rice who voted to impeach him in the aftermath of the january 6th insurrection. when you look at trump's success rate, there's a west virginia congressman last month who was knocked off. he will not be serving in congress next year after he voted to certify the 2020 election. up in michigan just in the last two months, there's a congressman there who voted to impeach trump. he announced his retirement. the big question is, can donald trump's backed republican challengers knock off nancy mace and tom rice. tom rice continues to stand in his denunciation of donald trump, telling

nancy mays winning in south carolina's first district in the republican primary.d out in nevada. a couple races to highlight here. the marquee race this fall is going to be the senate. catherine cortez masto the democratic running for re-election. this is a swing state. biden won it but by two points, in 2020. the question is, who would be running against masto. the answer, laxalt. the other race in nevada from a trump influenced standpoint is the secretary of state spot in nevada. a chief election officer, responsible for certifying the election. it is an open seat. the incumbent not running for re-election. jim march ant wins the republican primary. he is a leader in the national movement denying that trump lost the 2020 election. he wins this republican primary. he says -- he says, had he been secretary of state, he would have refused to certify this result. he's now the republican nominee for secretary of state. nevada is very competitive this fall. if he wins that election this fall he would be in office for the 2024 presidential election with the potential t

what message is for residents for south carolina? let's see whether voters and state republican incumbent precisely following trump will find themselves on the menu. these are the first so-called trump's revenge primaries you can say. the january 6th committee hearing gotten underway, the first time since the broader electorate had the opportunity to hear testimonies about the event leading up to the insurrection and donald trump's possible role in fermenting and pushing known election lies. known because his family members and what aide were learning. trump is not on any of these ballots. the connective tissue is a platform that echoes his sentiment. as much as the committee tried to convey of what we saw on january 6th, is a continue threat. the question is whether hearings impact the voters at all? and even still the 2020 lies are casting a big shadow over many of these 2022 races. in south carolina, the polls are closed but votes are being counted. you got two incumbent republican members of congress in this deep red state. tom r

these south carolina primaries are real mud fights. nancy mace in the first district who is being challenged by a trump endorsed candidate katie aring ton who lost in 2018 nancy mace has tried to disqualify her opponent for a security breach while she was working at the defense department and she might be able to survive trump's attacks on her. tom rice, he voted for impeachment could go down in his primary to trump's endorsed candidate russell fry. rice has tried to change the subject and make it more about fry's statement and his record on taxes in the legislature, but i'm not sure that republican voters will forgive rice forecasting his vote to impeach trump. >> david, the former president heavily involved in nevada's races. what's at stake there for him? >> well, catherine cortez masto might be the single most vulnerable adam laxalt looks like the favorite trump and mitch mcconnell agree. they've both gotten behind laxalt they hope their gains with hispanic voters will turn nevada red. >>> polls show democrats are losing on inflati

the killer motivated by hate, intending to start a race war in south carolina. drew his victims in bible study and took their lives in a house of worship. it's a reminder because hate on the hides it doesn't go away fully put. and when you breathe oxygen under that rock it comes out. that's we must understand what juneteenth represents now in the commemoration of slavery it doesn't just celebrate the past and moment i will sign in july federal holiday. i've only been president several months i think this will go down for me as one of the greatest honors i will have as president. i didn't do it but you did it. democrats and republicans but it is an enormous honor. thank you for what you have done. by the way is difficult most of us in the congress and senate i would go down to the other and of the hall first to think your staff who do all the hard work.
