we've had a lot of experience with the south kind of being that kind of veto point, being thetu constituency in congress that presidents are worrying about playing a role in nominations, s but now we've had psome f south as the president, a fairly unusual thing in the 20th and even 19th centuries since the civil war. but it's a new south. carter is part of this kind of cohort of new and more moderate to liberal southern governors. we're actually seeing real changes in that region as well. and you do see through the 1980s this sort of idea and the democratic party similar to this move to the center of canada tried to pivot toward the south, , trying to win back the south to make these appeals that a kind of in a moderate modern democratic mode as opposed to the old southern democrats or on the other hand, this kind of old-school new deal northern liberalism. so carter action has really profound effect on these shifts within his own party and within the ideas that are floating around in the country. so this is the last one, the last piece ofn legacy of want o talk about. in a lot of ways the deepest one.
