he came up here, to work for in the state of south dakota. of course, the first challenge to carve, g a place finding something appropriate and he and his son lincoln traveled through the black hills looking until they found this granite outcropping. is how do youenge put that into a sculpture? he had to make small sizes and bigger and bigger until he gets to a 1 slsh 12th we today have that original. so every inch on that model is a sculpture.the as you're sculpting, that might be nice and easy in clay or but when you're looking at the mountain, you're talking granite. very fine grain, tough stuff. o 90% of that sculpture is carved with dynamite. don't know if you think of dynamite as an artist's brush certainly was in this case. people 27, there were coming up here visiting this sculpture watching that whole process the entire time so there wasn't a formal opening day. dedications iple for each president and they were big on dead cases and knew ations because he that's how he would get everyone's attention and ultimately that's how more wou
