there is a difference between south dallas and south of dallas. we're understanding that it is south of dallas. a tornado, a possible tornado on the ground south of dallas. this is video from johnson county, right outside of ft. worth, texas. in fact, i'll have to be honest with you. i am getting text messages from family members in the area right now and they are telling me that they are preparing, if they need to, to get into safe spots within their homes. and perhaps hunkering down. we've seen some extremely volatile weather in the midwest and the south, as you well know, which we've covered on many of these being fatal tornadoes ripping through parts of the midwest and the south. so we'll keep you up to date. right now, a possible unconfirmed tornado on the ground, south of dallas, texas. some very ominous video coming in out of johnson county. that's right outside of ft. worth. and we'll keep you up to date. ♪ you are my sunshine, my only sunshine ♪ ♪ you make me happy when skies are gray ♪ [ female announcer ] you know exactly what it takes

dallas. there's a whole series of storms coming into the south survived dallas. and with those, we will get some wind and some hail. that's exactly what we're at. that dark area is where the hail and the rain is dumping out of the base of that cloud. we've gotten a number of reports of large hail. we've heard about the damage from the tornadoes. now those two tornadic storms, those rotating storms on the north side of town. one of them, very close to carrollton right now and moving up toward the 35 east corridor. another of them moving away from garland. there is yet another storm behind that showing some sign of rotation. that's not uncommon in a case like this. when you've got an environment that favors rotating storms. when you've got the wind shear and the low level humidity. oftentimes you will get multiple storms. the two most dangerous storms are now moving away from dallas and ft. worth in their wake. at least for the time being. what we appear to be looking at is more of a wind and hail threat coming toward dallas and ft. worth. >> we know the tornado to

it may take a couple days before we know just how, but the worst of it seems to be here in south dallas county in the city of lancaster. let me show you what we've got behind here. two cars parked in the street, one across the street from the other after the tornado had gone through, both cars thrown into this house. there was a 19-year-old girl inside that house huddled in a closet on the phone to her folks when the phone went dead. the good news is she got out all right unhurt. in fact, that is kind of the story of this whole storm, very, very few injuries. we're told there are about 10 injuries here in lancaster, two of those serious, dozens of people are in shelters now and a bit of a problem with let's. the dallas county sheriff told us live not long ago that they had people out here shortly after the tornado went through that were apparently up to no good, apparently in the process of beginning to loot. since then both the sheriff's department and the lancaster police department has locked this place down. you have to get through multiple checkpoints just to get in here. there wil

at least two tornadoes touching down in the area south of dallas today. the weather channel, carl parker, with the very latest. carl, what can you tell us? >> well, the tornado warnings are ongoing now. we are seeing very dangerous supercell storms traveling northward at 25 miles an hour. you can see these cells again driving northward here and we have a tornado in the south -- on the south side of the dallas area that did produce some damage. we actually watched that in realtime. a large debris cloud spreading out from that storm and that storm is right in here. the circulation is now right around garland and heath. so this is 635 and that is 30. still a tornado emergency associated with that storm. another well-defined circulation now coming up towards the 35 east corridor and this is going to come up between the grapevine passing by the airport. circulation is right in here. these are the two most dangerous storms working northward and, again, there has been a report, many reports of damage already with these storms. i want to show you the tornado outl

you can bet tensions are high for the last hour as police wound from south dallas to crandall up intoest dallas, back through the medical district, over into sunny vail, back into dallas and this thing coming to an end. megyn: kudos to the dallas police who managed to apprehend this suspect without harm to anyone. so as you can see, it does not appear there was a child in that car as the police opened up the back doors and appeared to not reach in. there was, however, a woman as initially reported in that car with him. she was described earlier on as a hostage. and she will be -- she'll be debriefed by the police as well. we were told earlier she was his victim in an attempted shooting a couple days ago. we are led to believe that' the reason the police showed up at his house this morning to execute the felony warrant and that is where this car chase began. you can see it ended in the middle of downtown dallas from the look of it and dallas p.d. has'their man. as we so often say at the end of these chases, enjoy prison. we'll move on to other news. a fox news alert. we get new signs t

texas and cleanup efforts got underway around dallas following the devastating tornadoes yesterday. these pictures show one of the tornadoes forming southf dallas, where the funnel shaped cloud raked across the city of lancaster. lancaster's mayor said it damaged about 300 buildings. >> all of a sudden it sounded like a train was coming, and i was on the track. i guess i was in the way. this loud noise. >> thousands of people in the dallas area are still without power tonight. hundreds are staying in shelters. there were no reports though, of any deaths from any of those tornadoes. >>> the pentagon said today its ready to resume a military trial of the five men accused in the september 11 attacks. khalid sheikh mohammed said he was the mastermind. five other -- four other men are being tried. they're expected to be arraigned next month at guantanamo bay. >>> san jose police are issuing a community alert tonight. they say someone is posing as a police officer and stopping people. lloyd lacuesta is live in san jose with a description of the impersonator, and who he's targeting. >> reporter: report of no fake stops tonight, but the latest

are not seeing in downtown dallas right now is a very well-developed super cell storm of the type that pro dudu those more long track tornadoes, the ones we saw on the southof dallas that must have lasted about 25 minutes as it traveled up into the dallas area. and those types of storms are now moving away and off into the northeast part of the state. we've got this last line, and we can't rule out more tornadoes, but it does appear the threat is gradually beginning to diminish across the dallas-ft. worth area. >> all right. thank you, carl. as we turn our attention to reed t timmer, who is a storm chaser with the discovery channel, he is actually upstream, if you will, of the storm patterns while it leaves dallas-ft. worth and heads up the i-35/i-45 corridors. it's heading in reed's direction. what is your sense, reed, of the power of a set of cells like this? in other words, is there any parameter to indicate how long a set of cells like this could generate this level of energy? >> yeah, i'm continuously monitoring that data, and right now we're heading east toward that eastern cluster in northeast texas. it's heading toward the paris, texas area, sulph

that's another town south of dallas. about 150 people are still in shelters in that area. over 650 homes and businesses have been destroyed. 17 people have reportedly been injured. some critically, but incredibly, considering the extent of the damage, no fatalities so far. hundred of flight were canceled yesterday at dfw because of hail. today will be more about assessing the damage and allocating resources for the relief efforts. live in arlington, texas, brian sande sanders. back to you. >> looking at the video and damage, hard to believe there weren't more injuries or deaths. of an early warning system that helped people get to safety quickly? >> as you know, tornado touched down at the spur of the moment. but there were warning sirens that went off that allowed people to take shelter inside of buildings which probably led to the low number of injuries and fatality. again, we'll know more as the sun comes up today. the weather is supposed to be good. i'm assuming that emergency officials will be able to make a better assessment. eun? >> thank you very much. >> awful and

we understand this was from the snyder truck yard and that's just south of dallas near the lbj freeway. so that might have been the very first touchdown. it's kind of hard to see. these had a lot of rain and hail with them. maybe you can see that thing flipping. those trailers were empty, good news, unbelievably no significant injuries and no deaths out of this tornado outbreak in dallas today. let me take you to the maps because in addition to the flying debris and the absolute panic because so many people were aware that was happening, i'm showing you the two really tornadic storms. there were probably three tornadoes, one between dallas and fort worth that just missed dfw the one near 35 west and another one east of dallas that produced two tornadoes near the town of forney. i understand arlington, texas, had extensive damage, may have been on the ground 30 minutes. the good news is there are no current tornado warnings, although the entire area including louisiana and portions of arkansas needs to continue to watch and this area will slide into the deep south tomorrow. we've got mo
