well, i knew jack when i was just a peanut farmer in south georgia, and i had no interest in politics at all. when he came to the atlanta constitution. but my first cousin, don carter, was a city editor of atlanta journal, and they were kind of in competition with each other. but everybody in georgia began to know jack nelson as one of the most incisive and aggressive and aggravating reporters who'd ever lived here. and i can't say all of the epithets that i heard describe jack. i heard the most prevalent was pissant. and that has a conation of somebody who's exposing things that ought not be exposed to decent people. so jack would do that, and he would do it with incredible success. and sometimes under unbelievable danger for himself. the first time i think he ever came to georgia he was inducted into -- he went into the national guard and was inducted into the korean war. that was the paris time he came to georgia -- first time he came to georgia. and he, ultimately, became a staff sergeant. and if you read the book, you'll find out that he never learned how to shoot a rifle, he nev

georgia. john lewis is the congressman here and we certainly honor the fight and stand he took for atlanta and around the souththat fight just isn't over. when you look at the new voting i.d. laws they're pressing in georgia and texas and trying to keep people of color, younger people, even older people away from the polls. and those people who typically, most typically vote democratic. i think taking section 5 away, taking it away, takes away the most valuable portion because without it we can get these things through we certainly come a long way from literacy tests. i don't know if we've come as far as poll taxes taus baus that gets to the issue of paying for an identification card to get the vote. as goldy brings up, certainly interesting to watch. the justices here, she brought up chief justice roberts. i want to show everybody in 2009, he said things have changed in the south and may no longer be justified by current conditions. the other justice to watch is kennedy. as we said, you have argued two dozen cases before the court. what do you think about how the justices and this look at the two men, roberts

those states that are challenging the voting rights act are alabama alaska, arizona arizona, georgia, southa, south dakota, texas, they all appear to be red states and arizona was the only state that did not pass some form of i.d. law. they're all trying to make it hard for vote through voting document laws. in 2009 the supreme court looked like they were open to challenging the voting rights act. justice routes wrote, the historic accomplishments of the voting rights act are undeniable but the act now raises serious constitutional concern, in other words, these guys might overturn it. we go to judith brown director of the advancement project and litigated much of the i.d. laws in 2012. here is the fun fact. thank you for coming on. waited online for seven hours to vote. where were you voting and my god, seven hours. >> i was in maryland, not a battleground state. actually i was voting early voting. i went on a sunday the day before sandy was scheduled to hit maryland and i had to wait seven hours, six hours outside one hour inside of the library in maryland, and you know, it was horrible.
