lake tahoe. scientists are finding an increase in green algae and they believe wildfire spoke of something to do with i. with it. >> reporter: here at dragon beach in south lake tahoe, there there is a sign warning people about the harmful algae. you can can also see some of it on the rocks over here. there are several kinds of algae as part of lake tahoe's ecosystem. some are good and some are bad. blue-green algae is one of the bad ones. it is not only toxic to human and pets, but it also kills some of the good algae that helps keep tahoe clean and clear. the good news is that blue-green algae grows slowly. the bad news is it grows quicker quicker and larger when exposed to nitrogen, found in wildfire smoke particles. last year lake tahoe environmental researchers found the largest growth in blue-green algae in recent history and they say the smoke from the caldor fire is to blame. >> they are expecting this blue-green algae. to come back. >> reporter: researchers believe believe it is too early to see how the mosquito fire smoke will will impact algae levels, but based on the smoke levels in the the tahoe area over the past week, they believe it will
