nbc 10's katy zachry is live in south philadelphia to explain. katy?>>> under philadelphia mayor jim kenney, half a dozen people schools in the city will be transformed into community schools in just a matter of months for the start of the school year this fall. this one behind me from south philadelphia was one of the first to apply for the change. now, here they educate kids who are pre-k through 8th grade. they've become a community school in a lot of ways. it's based on the idea that the building would be used for much more than just teaching kids. for example, during the day, a medical clinic or counseling center would be open to students and the community or after school the building would have classes or resources for parents. they've already started some of that here. >> how does that benefit the kids here during the school day? >> because it's giving them some direction. it's griiving them support they might not get at home. many of our parents work very long hours and are not always around in the evening. >> reporter: south works school here
