san jose. storm ranger confirms that area south of san francisco not seeing much. around the north bay. dropping south through the bay area. notice the trend. a mainly north bay event, and we're likely to see this carry into the sunday forecast. notice how these rain chances are mostly bottled up north of san francisco, up towards mendocino county, sonoma county almost nonstop, which is the reason why the rain totals from north to south. you're going to see that big gradient from another 2 to 4in of rain on the coastal mountains and inland mountains there, up towards lake county and sonoma county, and nearly nothing again down towards san jose. so the rain chances will have tomorrow. taking a mostly san francisco northward focus, we'll see highs in the same range we had today, mostly upper 50s around the north bay and low to mid 60s from san jose southward. now notice how that atmospheric river gets on the move as we get into monday and tuesday, the frontal boundary itself will start to move through for areas south of san francisco. that's likely to be the heaviest

san francisco. light rain still falling in san rafael at 5560 muggy degrees right now in walnut creek. but here's some good news in terms of the wind. it was that southy did keep some of the refinery fire smoke from drifting south into walnut creek or the tri-valley. right now that south wind still ongoing in walnut creek. and you can see san jose right now, you got a south wind at ten miles per hour at 60 degrees and still mainly light rain at times, as the more significant rain this weekend has been aiming in up there on the north coast. so for tomorrow, just like we had today, cloudy skies in and out of the raindrops at times, most of it focused on the peninsula northward into tomorrow morning, but there's still a chance of showers down here as well. santa cruz mountains, east bay hills. but the highest totals again tomorrow likely to be up here in sonoma county, lake county and northwestern napa county. you see those areas in red? a lot less again as you head into san jose and morgan hill. so morning temperatures will be mild mid to upper 50s to start the day and high temperatures tomorrow, upper 50s to low 60s, san francisco to oakland, low to m

some of the hills there 2 to 5in of rain, but a lot less south of san francisco. san francisco about an inch of rain over the last three days. but san jose kind of a different story, even though it's been raining as much as three inches of rain around ben lomond. we get this when we have that upper air pattern over the santa clara valley, also known as the rain shadow effect, the rising air. the rain falls on the ocean facing side of f te santa cruz mountains. then, as that air descends down towards san jose. and fortunately, you don't get a lot of rain, but that is set to change big time tomorrow night into tuesday. look at these rain totals come up. wind speeds will be on the increase tomorrow night into tuesday. could see wind gusts up to 45mph and a colder storm as a follow up later this week could drop snow levels as low as mount hamilton, mount saint helena and the north bay as those chilly temperatures arrive. we'll have the latest timeline on when the peak rain arrives and how long the wet weather lasts. in that 7-day forecast coming up in a few minutes. r

south. that's going to be cut in half. north of san francisco in only on -- getting in on some of the rain. by late monday afternoon and evening, that's when the heavy rain is going to arrive. starting in our north bay communities. might be seeing heavier downpours. but the entirety of our bay area, even the south bay community are going to be getting in on that activity late monday and into very early tuesday morning. so that's going to be the trend this weekend. we'll be seeing the heaviest rain. the bulk of the atmospheric river begins to push southward. throughout the rest of the weekend when all things are said and done we could be picking up upwards of 2-inches. and maybe .1 to .25 further south. here in san francisco we'll be upwards of a half on an inch. that break will arrive late into monday and early monday morning. by late monday and into tuesday. that's when the more widespread rain will arrive. that's when we'll be seeing the potential of two to three inch across the bay area. the santa cruz mountains and up across our bay communit

south we get. we here in san francisco may be going to be seeing a half of an inch across our inland bay communities. it is not going to be nearly beneficial further south. we're going to be seeing a break in the community late tomorrow, or late tonight and into tomorrow evening. but by late sunday and into monday, you'll be seeing definitely more moisture moving in. look at sunday afternoon and evening. hopefully this loads, there we go. that's when we'll be seeing the more widespread rainfall. and the heaviest rainfall likely going to be heading toward the area late monday and into early tuesday. this is going to be more of that widespread event. look at san jose potentially picking up to 2-inches of rainfall. this is good news. it's something to keep an eye on. that early next week wave of moisture is likely going to be a lot more packing of a punch per se when it comes to those rainfall totals. this is not going to be frost behind me i promise you. it's not going to get that cold out there. we are going to be seeing chances for rain sticking around all the way through tomorrow afternoon. keep th

time we get to saturday afternoon, we do get some pauses in the rain at times for the south bay, as well as san francisco, half moon bay and palo alto at about 2:00, but we're going to keep again that on and off again. tap notice in the north bay. we're going to keep it primarily through that saturday evening. as we inch into that sunday forecast, we are going to see the possibility of more rain. but over the next couple of hours, expect to see those periods of light to moderate rain coming down. tonight. we're going to get anywhere from about a quarter of an inch with some of those higher totals for the north bay, san jose, 52 degrees right now. and then you'll notice over the next seven days i mentioned it's just the beginning. as we inch into that weekend forecast, we're also monitoring a second system. this one looks like it could bring more of a punch as well for the sierra. heading into the start of the first week of february, but make sure to tune in for that at 5:00 with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. janelle, thanks vianey and you can follow the rain all weekend long and whenever you want by

san francisco, you head further south, one of rain there, richmond over 3 inches of rain. n jose, the kind of fall in the rain shadow there. so they have very little lee just under a 10th of an inch of rain. but there's a lot more to come as this next storm system bears down on us now, here's a live look at mount tam right now. looking out fears those winds are outside. it is just blowing unbelievably strong across the mountain peaks. now we're going to see a lot of those gusts elsewhere around the bay area, getting very blustery in spots. so wind advisory has been issued for the coastal range is also in toward us county, expecting some of those gusts over 50 miles per hour through about 1 o'clock tonight. and then have to watch for another round of some gusty winds tomorrow. here's a look at some of the gusts around the bay area just over the last few hours. and you see some 20 some 30 plus mile an hour gusts, even a 36 right there at the golden gate bridge. so dangerous driving all around. and that's why it could be throughout the night tonight and much of the day tomorro

san francisco, 8307 inch. and then it starts to be focus a bit more to the south as well. d by tuesday, we could have accumulations of close to 3 inches in san francisco. so that's impressive. but then how about the rest of the state? what's mainly in northern california event? and so what we're going to really see of the strongest amounts, heaviest amounts of rain up in northern california over 7 inches of rain in reading. and then and and then look at this, sierra nevada. looking at some areas in the feet of snow, which is fantastic because our snowpack is not so impressive. we are below normal about two-thirds of where we ought to be january should have been our wettest month. it was very, very dry. so we get some catching up to do in february and march futurecast. oh, yeah, sierra nevada. they're going to get some rain and snow, but it's still pretty wet. so the high elevations over 7,000 feet, we'll see some snow. so i got a lot more details coming up right now. back to stephanie. all right, kathy, thank you so much. a 56 year-old man has pleaded guilty to recklessly o

san francisco over one. but then down towards the south here san jose only 707 inch. but even san jose is going to get in on this hit here of heavy rain. so i wanted to show you the different layers in the atmosphere. it's not just one thing that's going to bring that rain. it's not just the atmospheric river. we have a system that's wrapped around this off to the north that's going to also pull in some moisture, but then down at the surface, this is the other catalyst that's going to add up these totals. and it's a stationary front that's going to stall out tomorrow. and that's how we will get in on some totals up as high as three inches. so let's move it into stormranger our doppler radar. and you'll see that rainfall is already developing here over the north bay. and just offshore a light green is light rain. darker green, moderate. and you get into the yellow. we're starting to see some heavier pockets now over santa rosa. and this will just continue tonight. so be careful out here throughout the north bay. you're going to be able to see in our rain timeline here

the numbers are more modest as you go farther south, over an inch of rain for san francisco, just short of three-quarters inch of rain for dublin, less than a 0.1-inch for san jose. that will change over the next 24 hours. let's look at futurecast through 8:00 tomorrow morning as the rain becomes much more widespread and pockets of heavier rain indicated by yellow on the map will pass through, not camping out in any spot for a long period of time. our flooding possible tonight is limited, but this rain will continue to fall. it will get heavier from late morning into the afternoon tomorrow. that's when our potential for flooding will be at its highest. the weather prediction center outlined the entire bay area in yellow, level 2 out of 4 on their excessive rainfall outlook, means an elevated threat of localized flooding, and along the coast a wind advisory in effect, gusts up to 50 miles an hour possible. the winds will be noticeable across the rest of the bay area. not a bad idea to make sure your devices are all charged up. we'll take a longer look at futurecast and time out the syste

san francisco to the east bay. same thing for the north bay. a little bit of a rain shadow in the south bay, a quarter to about three quarters of an inch. and then as we head through sunday's forecast, we'll pick up on additional rainfall. but it really looks like the target's going to be over the north bay with a half to about one inch and a third in san francisco to trace amounts down here in the south bay. so when it com to our flood concern, well, everybody should just really be careful this weekend. i think it's going to be marin, napa and sonoma counties with the highest risk of any kind of flooding. so just be careful, especially around any small creeks and streams. they will start to rise pretty quickly once we get under some of that heavier rainfall. we're not expecting huge wind gusts here, but it will kick up at times out of the southwest, 15 to about 35mph should be manageable on the wind front. temperatures here in the upper 40s to low 50s, so grab the jacket along with the umbrella. tomorrow. we're at 54, in san francisco, 49 in the north bay, and temperatures don't budge

san francisco. wind out of the south. 26 miles per hour.o we're seeing that wind really kick up and over the next 5 days, unfortunately, you can see how spots up in the north bay anticipating getting, you know, upwards of 4 inches of rain and elsewhere in the bay area. still looking out for a whole lot, too. this is how it's going to play out. so tonight we're gonna start to see this rain move in the heavier showers tomorrow. that wind will still be with us a little bit tomorrow. wednesday. we catch a break. then thursday's the next round of atmospheric river of moisture. this one not as potent as the one we're about to see tonight into tomorrow. so let's time it out for you here, north bay getting in on this for rush hour. this is about 06:30pm. you see later this evening. heavier showers rolling in through the rest of the bay area. it may slack off a little bit in the early morning hours. but boy, it's not going to be done because watch what happens. we get to the afternoon. that's 12, 30 tomorrow afternoon. and you can those heavy shower

these are our high end versus low end totals, san francisco, 1 1/2 to over 2 inches, but the further south, the drier it gets, but there is some good news because even places like san jose that haven't gotten in on the activity over the next 24 hours anywhere from 1 to 2 inches is likely going to be falling. that could be again over 2 inches, maybe 2 1/2 inches for some of our santa clara valley communities, but again, the heaviest rainfall easily is falling in places like the santa cruz mountains and our north bay communities, but we'll not only see rain, we'll see windy conditions. our winds are beginning to pick up, especially across our coastal communities where they're gusting 25 to 35 miles an hour and those gusty winds will stick around into tomorrow as well, which is why we do have wind advisories in effect, especially closer to the coast. that includes here in san francisco and for our more inland east bay communities, as we could be seeing gusts up to 60 miles an hour. let's take a closer look at the timing of the winds because it's our south bay communities and closer to places

san francisco to the east bay. same thing for the north bay. south bay, not as much a quarter to about three quarters of an inch. we'll get rain shadowed by the santa cruz mountains a little bit pretty common in a situation like this. and then on sunday, this will be manageable for most of us. a third in san francisco to less southward. and then the north bay would be a half to about one inch. so with that target over the north bay, we do think that's where the flooding threat will come in. but then by next monday and tuesday, i wanted to show you this. we could see another storm that would bring us one to over three inches of rainfall. so next monday night into tuesday, that's really where the big concern and focus would be out of the next seven days. so i just wananted to nd of put that on your radar, so to speak. so we will have to watch out for some on and off flood concerns with creeks, streams and rivers running very high and fast. otherwise, as we head through tomorrow morning, temperatures starting off in the upper 40s and also low 50s. so a jacket along with that umbrella. daytime highs only coming into

we'll see anywhere from around a third in san francisco to trace amounts in the south bay, but we could be in for another half to one inch right up towards the north bay. but what i'm concerned about right now, if this forecast stays on track for us, is monday night and into tuesday. that's when that atmospheric river is going to start to move off towards the south and look at these totals monday night and tuesday. we could see one and a half to maybe three inches throughout the bay area in less than 24 hours. so this is one we are watching extremely closely again next monday and tuesday. still several days out from that happening, but we got our eyes on it right here in the russian river in guerneville, going to 28ft by next tuesday if that storm stays on track, a flood stage is 32, so we'll be real close to flood stage on that one, as well as sierra snow this weekend, 1 to 2ft at the pass levels. but watch as we put on that storm system monday. tuesday could get up to 67 at kingvale, 34 to tahoe and 65 here at kirkwood. on the 7-day forecast. we again get a break on wednesday and next

san francisco to the peninsula. as i take you down into street level radar here around san mateo. foster city, highway 101. watch out. south bay has had a few showers as well. tonight it is a level one. tomorrow the storm goes to a level two. here's why. here's the atmospheric river that we are tracking. the moisture plume stretching all the way to the hawaiian islands. and it is headed right towards us. so looking at that atmospheric river tomorrow morning, you're seeing the pounding rain. it continues into the afternoon, timing it all out for you. 7:00 tonight. it's still just light to moderate rain, scattered showers as we head into the late night hours. and then here comes the steadier, heavier rain to start off your saturday morning. in the afternoon at noontime, you're seeing those downpours continuing. the national weather service has the entire area under a flood watch until 10 p.m. sunday. flooding is possible when you're getting several inches of rain and up to five inches in the hills. you can certainly bet there could be problems. right now. in the oakland hills, winds are gusting to 36 miles an hour. 32 big ro

south lee. wow, it is monday. southerly 61 degrees in san francisco. and you know, that is an indication of that system that's coming our way. so the next 5 days we are once again facing the prospect of 2 to 3 inches of rain as we go through the week. and then after that, we finally do get a break. but you can see what i'm talking about this week. we're going to have showers rolling in later this afternoon. heavy rain throughout the entire bay area as we get to tuesday wednesday. we catch a break thursday. we've got more showers and then friday will kind of start to work our way out of it as the system goes away and then we get a pretty decent weekend. so here is this afternoon. this is what i anticipate will start to see some of this rain falling around. 3, 4 o'clock in the north bay. that is going to work its way right through the bay area. so this is 07:00pm. that means that rush hours going to be really tricky heads into parts of the south bay and then notice these waves kind of come in in the overnight. now. this is our tuesday morning. so again,

south into monday and tuesday. right now, a little bit of fog and light rain around san francisco and san rafael.you're seeing temperatures in the 50s, low 60s and upper 50s out towards the tri-valley. dublin 59 degrees and san j jose currtly at 60. so the view on our storm ranger radar shows you it's really just the north bay. now keep this in mind, sonoma county. the rain may not go anywhere for the next 24 hours, even though the more significant moisture here for now is moving up on the north coast. watch the progression here. moving forward into tomorrow morning, best shower chances will be north of san francisco around the santa cruz mountains. but we said look at sonoma county, look at mendocino and lake counties. that rain just kind of off and on ongoing through sunday, which is why the top rain totals. as we wrap up the weekend, look for these areas of red and purple, the coastal ranges in the inland mountain ranges near calistoga could see another 2 to 3in of rain, but mostly dry from palo alto down into morgan hill. so we got some rain at times. on your sunday forecast, more of that lik

some, you know, rainfall up toward sonoma county, up toward parts of marin county, but san francisco and points souths much. so they're going to get the rain up in the north bay. and then this is monday. our next system wants to come on board later in the day, monday and into tuesday. and finally, we're talking about significant rainfall in the south bay. so with that system coming on board later in the day, monday and into tuesday morning, that will boost the rainfall rates across the entire bay area. flood watches continue for the entire bay area until 10 p.m. on sunday, and we will likely see more flood watches into early next week. so here's the setup for tomorrow. we are expecting this more rain focused up in the north bay. not as much as today, but still some rainfall. scattered showers for the rest of the area and then on monday monday afternoon evening rainfall develops and it could be heavy at times, especially monday night and into tuesday in the sierra. they have a winter weather advisory in place around the lake tahoe area until 10:00 tomorrow, and the snow levels all weekend. they've bee
