last minute strike is delaying the san jose earthquakes and their plans for a new south bay stadium. the neighborhood group around the proposed site filed an appeal before today's deadline citing noise and traffic. they want to build a $60 million, 18,000 seat stadium on 74 acres near mineta san jose airport. the city's planning commission will hear the issue again before it can approve the planned development permit issued last month. the earliest chance for that hearing is january 25th. >>> 2012 and make a new car. industry experts say many of us are buying new vehicles and expected to stay the course during this year. a report by the associated press shows u.s. auto sales may reach 13.8 million this year edging close to the 14 million mark, the traditional measure of a healthy market. experts attribute the growth to easier credit, low interest rates and pent up demand for cars and trucks created by the recession. after hitting a low in 2009, the industry is expected to add 160,000 jobs during the next three years. >>> starbucks is raising the cost of your morning jolt. lucky for us

san jose. the department transportation is recommending that congress set aside 900 million to help pay for the project. the extension goes from fremont south to northeast san jose. rob fladeboe takes a look at the route where construction is already under way. >> the end of this out ballot bart lines is the beginning of the new extension in san jose. construction has already begun to force the first stop in south fremont just south of ottawa mall parkway. the 10 mi. extension will parallel the existing tracks. the next stop will be in milipitas. this is what the new stations will look like. a lot of trees and landscaping. the work will take about two years and then, it is on to san jose. when the extension is open in 2016, this gridlock on 880 should ease as writer shipped on the extension is expected to be 46,000 people per day. >>pam: the new apple ceo took over for steve jobs it took a pay package of nearly $400 million. that works out to more than $1 million a day. catherine heenan explains. >> this is my first product launch since being named ceo. >>catherine: steve cook introduced the iphone 4s he joined the company in 1998 and fille
