fires are burning in the area, cal fire is mopping up a 30-acre brush fire this afternoon in south san jose. this fire started at 3:00 on monterrey street. that smoke from that fire was so thick, firefighters were forced to close down the road. >> take a look, this is live from our abc7 east bay hills cam, where you can see that haze in front of mt. diablo. we're also getting reports of falling ash near the fire. more on the fire danger, drew? >> this is all indicative of just how strong these winds have been this afternoon. they've been gusting frequently, over 35 miles an hour. so that has been a major factor as to why many of us have seen smoke so far away from this fire in solano county. winds right now still on the active side. we have gusts in the hills, up to 35 miles an hour at mt. diablo. as we get you closer into that fire in solano county, winds out of the north, racing 23 miles an hour so what that does is it takes that smoke and sends it as far south as san jose. we do have that red flag warning still in effect overnight. and we do anticipate these winds will remain rather busy

san jose 84 degrees. 75 in san francisco 69 degrees. let's talk about your air quality advisory still in effect through tonight all the way from the north bay down through the southay. the reason for that is because there are active wildfires burning in southern oregon. all that spoke and haze has managed to creep its way down through the bay area so something to keep in mind because i know that a lot of folks might be heading outside, to kick it and hang out and enjoy the sunshine. just be aware of that. as far as your long range outlook, the next chance of seeing some rain. now unfortunately that initial system that's going to creep on in, on tuesday, is going to be steered off far north. the ridge of high pressure is going to start building over most of california down through central and southern california, and that's going to keep the majority of california dry, at least through next week. we will notice from the system is going to be the cooling thanks to the pairing with the cold front, and that's going to keep our daytime highs comfortable. looking way ahead and this is towards next tuesday, this is going to possibly bring our next chance into the 28th,

. >> reporter: drivers on southbound highway 101 and south san jose saw that firsthand yesterday. a small fire on a grassy field that had already been chewed down by a herd of goats grew to 63 acres and practically no time because of gusty warm winds. >> we had things in place to get the grass lowered. but as you can see with the winds here, the wind will override everything. it will cause a fire to spread. >> reporter: 24 hours later and with the winds still blowing, san jose fire crews kept pouring water on hot spots like this tree that was hollowed out and could contain embers. fire crews spent an extra day and they will be spending an extra night here on the scene of the fire to watch for flare- ups because the weather conditions continue to be dangerous. in san jose, len ramirez, kpix 5. >>> a red flag warning did expire at 5:00 today, but the fire danger will be high until we get a widespread rainfall, which the north bay got earlier this week. but we did not see widespread rain in the santa cruz mountains or the diablo range. temperatures today were high. san jose 84 degree

following the coyote creek floods in 2017 that forced 11-thousand people out of their homes in south san josensure shelters are in place when a disaster strikes. ( james ) an area in belvedere will soon be off limits as crews fix a seawall that's in eminent danger of collapsing. a state of emergency has been declared while engineers work to secure the 100-year-old seawall. its going to cost 550-thousand dollars to install sheet pilings deep into the bay mud to prop up the seawall. eventually, sheet pilings will be installed on the entire wall, spannning about 800 feet. belevedere city manager craig middleton says the seawall shifted about two inches in the past six months. ( james ) the city is also planning a 20-million dollar project to increase the height of all of the communty's seawalls by 20-21 -- in response to rising sea levels. middleton hopes the repairs are made

san jose by 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. and patchy low clouds on the coast as our temperatures rebound to similar levels that we had today. south of san jose, numbers closer to 70s. 80s in the tri-valley over to concord and antioch, low 70s for oakland. peninsula temperatures mostly in the 70s, coastside, though, you're looking at low 60s around half moon bay. mid to upper 60s around san francisco and the north bay. highs in the 70s and 80s. so an update on our october rainfall totals, just to kind of ground our expectations. normally this month, areas south of san francisco, normally less than an inch of rain, north bay sees as much as two inches of rain and so far, besides santa rosa, it has been unusually dry. you see the numbers there on the right. usually it's the last week of october where the rain chances start to come up and as we approach now the last week of october, here's your long-range forecast. tuesday, the rain chances now have shifted off to the north. in fact, the pattern as we go through thee if this is ue, notice toward friday, the 26th, we've got pressure buig in the active pat little too far to the north.
