i am reading the stories from south texas and by 1925, there is no more stories of these guys out there smuggling liquor. they get wiped out or driven out of business by the texas rangers. and about 20 of these smugglers get killed outright. just because those people were driven out of business doesn't mean that desire for alcohol ended. and there is other groups that basically fill that role that the mom and pop operators did. they get wiped out in 1925 but after that i see boot legers and people smuggling liquor with trucks and automobiles. i found cases of smuggling involving airplanes. people who-fought in world war one downed enemy aircraft and became airborne bootleggers. and i found law enforcement was aggressive at tackling these people but the people smuggling with automobiles carried automatic weapons and on several occasions killed officers. so the officers were killed by people driving automobiles who can see the officer approach them when they get pulled over and those were deadlier folks. smuggling didn't stop with the crackdown but it evolved and became deadlier. >> kimba
