we provided support to all for military areas in south vietnam. let me tell you a little about a friend i flew with. i flew a 190 gunship. it was converted to a gunship. this aircraft provided close fire support for south vietnamese and friendly troops. it had the ability to fly up to 6000 feet. they had hadley accuracy. -- they had deadly accuracy. submission for this was to attack the ho chi minh trail. one night on november, 1971, it was thanks giving day. we found the north vietnamese with trucks. this was a rare catch for our group. we went up to 2000 feet. we opened up on the trucks with all the guns. they disappeared in a cloud of dust. we showered them with thousands of rounds in about 10 minutes. another night that i cannot forget was when an area was about to be overrun. they wanted us to cover them. one night, in the summer of 1972 right near the border of cambodia the vietcong attacked the camp easily. we were outnumbered. they were about 100 yards from the camp. we threw up a flare to identify the attack. i saw hundreds of the at tong
