in the southeast part of the city, we don't have many homeless facilities. there is one that i know of, providence baptist church. every night, i have seen this line wrapped around the corner. it is cold. this is a men's shelter in particular. they're coming in, they are on a floor of a gymnasium. we are not talking a lavish existence. four seasons here. definitely, i think we are a very compassionate city and just continue to extend the compassion to the homeless community. >> what is happening with crime in your district? how do you think the police department is doing to address the issue of crime in district 10? >> statistically, we have a lot of crime. homicides, there were two in the last week in my district. i am vice-chair of the public safety committee. safety and how we define safety, not just in terms of crime, but over a public safety, is something that is very important and one of my priorities. what i would like to see is more of a community policing approach. maybe engaging more the community. that includes organizations like safe, which is a

we believe that bringing both and integrating both services within the southeast corridor will be able to improve the services. another area we have been working on just recently is looking and managing more space for nonprofits that come into those programs. one of the areas for district 10 is we have small organizations, and i believe because of the issues of cost, health insurance, etc., it is very difficult for nonprofits in the southeast area. one area we are looking at is can we provide a way to provide these human resources management and financial management in a more centralized area that is non-profit so we can support their services so that mission and passion can continue? that is one of the great concerns form may come up some of the closures of the nonprofits in the district. that is another area we are working on. i do not have the amounts of money, but one thing we have to think about is having a stronger government presence in the southeast, trying to support this this year. supervisor cohen: ok. i want to acknowledge our city attorney is here with us also. rizzo, or president rizzo, brought up was the southeast community. ms. jackson referred it was put there for the waste water treatment plant. there is real concern in the community that really be a job training educational place. and so one of the programs that particularly mrs ellis has been spearheading, we've had a number of meetings with the vice chancellor of the community college district, the plan -- and we're still talking to the community to see if that's what they want -- but the plan is for us to take a much larger role to have a robust selection of classes there for the community college district to also bring sheriff hennessey's programs into that program. to have a contractor assistance center there so that contractors local in the city, especially small ones that are trying to get into business with the city, can come there and we can help them learn to grow and act as contractors and then turn around and say, here's some job training programs we can take care of. we have three acres of greenhouses. those acres of greenhouses right next to
