it's centered in the southeast with most of the cases in and around atlanta. that's the home base of the c.d.c. also in alabama, florida, tennessee, california and louisiana where that toddler died. c.d.c. researchers say they're trying to find a common link between the cases. of course, e-coli often spreads through tainted food and it can make you violently sick. officials say this particular strain can cause kidney failure and bleed to death. john roberts is on fox top story live tonight, the home of the c.d.c., what are officials saying? >> they're telling us they have 14 confirmed cases in six states and two clusters of them. one in the county surrounding atlanta, the home of the c.d.c. and another cluster of four in louisiana. mostly centered around new orleans, two in alabama. one each in florida, tennessee and california. it's possible because california is so far away that that person may have traveled to one of the other states and that's where they contracted it. this whole thing took on a new sense of urgency after a 21-month-old died last thursday
