that's in far southeast iowa -- along the mississippi river and north of keokuk. law enforcement arrested 40 people during a demonstratio n there yesterday. protesters say they successfully shut down construction for the day. in central iowa. yesterday's arrests come after police arrested people at a pipeline protest in boone county just a few weeks ago. authorities arrested 30 people. most of them have appeared in court on a trespassing charge earlier this month. all but one of the protesters took responsibility and will pay just over 270 dollars in fines and fees. one pleaded not guilty and faces trial. the protestors are upset the access, has used eminent domain to acquire property rights for it. volunteers are racing to complete renovations to a historic house in cedar rapids. the group "save c-r heritage" prevented "frankie house" from demolition last year. crews moved the bohemian style home a few blocks, from 1257 3rd avenue se to 1425 5th avenue se . kcrg-tv9's phil reed talked to volunteers who got out their paint brushes to help flip the frankie house. co

40-million dollar casino to replace the skogman commercial reality building on first avenue southeast. the iowa racing and gaming commission turned down a plan for a cedar rapids casino on first avenue and first street several years ago. kcrg-tv nine's dave franzman joins us now live from the proposed location of the new location. dave, the builders are calling this a quote "boutique" casino. what does implies it's going to be a lot smaller than a typical resort casino. there won't be any restaurants or a hotel. the idea is to make use of what's already downtown and share customers with existing businesses. the proposed plan calls for using the space now occupied by this commercial real estate building, the adjoii lot and an auto service store. but it's not all for a casino. parking would be on the ground floor, the casino itself on the second and office space for the third and fourth floors. the biggest question, though, is whether downsizing the casino plan would create less conflict with existing casinos. flash flood or flood warnings so all across northern iowa and all of these areas where the rivers are actually diagonally running on to the southeast, i'm talking about these in here -- that's where the major rivers run and flood warnings are out. a lot of real estate covered here in eastern iowa. around cedar falls it's expected to crest at nearly 101 feet. over around waterloo it's up to 26.4 feet. these are within many feet set in 2008. we're expecting 21.1 feet coming on sunday evening and by the time we get to late monday around midnight, maybe 1:00 in the morning, the crest is now 23.5 feet. there again you can see the mainstream of this cedar river running through the heart of the city. what you're looking at on either side is what is going to happen if we get this crest of 25 feet which we are now projecting. there's residential areas here going underwater once again and a lot of the downtown is experiencing flooding and here's the major rivers and bridges across the some will be shut down. there's no question about that. water may actually go over some of the bridges. once you get to that 22-foot level that's when the wate

iowa veteran killed in afghanistan. the post office at 615 6th avenue southeast will honor sergeant 1st class terryl pasker. republican senators chuck legislation to rename the post office in march. president obama signed it in june. sergeant pasker was killed in 20-11 when he was working at a checkpoint in afghanistan. he was 39 and a graduate of lisbon high school. his family says renaming the post office will ensure their son's sacrifice will never be forgotten. all of the state's senators and representativ es co-sponsored the legislation. congressman rod blum and senator joni ernst will attend today's ceremony. senators ernst and grassley toured the iowa city v-a medical center on friday. the media was not allowed on the tour, so this is video from a media tour of the v-a earlier this summer. ernst said the goal of the meeting was to meet with administrators and doctors at the hospital to learn more about the overall system. she also commented on an ongoing investigation into a veteran that committed suicide after visiting the v-a hospital. ernst says it's important to not jump to any conclusions, and l
