you got all kinds of colors there in southern california. lot going on there right now as we got the possibility of more blizzard conditions continuing across the bernardino mountains and also looking for the possibility of some flash flooding there. we've got flash flood warnings have been posted across parts of 1000 oaks and just to the south of that as well. more flood warnings continuing and flood watches continue across the area as well. heavy rainfall going to continue to move through that area. this is all part of the same system that has really kind of pounding the bay area since last night. now sliding further south. you can see the low really kind of anchor just almost just just southeast due south of the bay area just about here. but now all that energy is headed to southern california. we're still seeing some of that wrap around right back in the bay area. so we're not done with the rain just yet. we've got a chance. more scattered showers out there for tonight and cold in up the likely to see a few more snowflakes the peaks abov

parts of southern california are under their first blizzard warning since 1989.golden state on thursday will start to intensify on friday. a massive storm has already brought major blizzards and temperatures far below freezing to much of the northern us. the cold snap comes as parts of the us southeast basked in a record—breaking heat wave. warning coordination meteorologist at the national weather service eric boldt has been monitoring the storm. when we start issuing a blizzard warning, one of the first we've issued in decades, that is the unusual nature of this event, where just a lot of precipitation in the mountains and also down here closer to the ocean where we all live. it's not going to be a record—breaking amount of rain associated with this butjust a strong storm overall for the month of february, one of our wettest months of the year. but the biggest difference is just feet of snow expected in the mountains and that's going to really help the snowpack levels and eventually the drinking water reservoir storage. i'm joined from los angeles by news repor

it's gonna be a big event for southern california. they're gonna have more moisture involved with this storm that we have, because right now we've had thus far we've had very little as you can see there, but it's going to come in tonight. i'll get to that in a minute. but the freeze warning the frost advisory. you know all about that the winter storm warning the rare winter storm warning above 1000 ft. these ratings snowfall. accumulations are just it's high end. right, so i think a couple inches of snow up in the sonoma county coastline possible in the hills up there, up around mount tamil pious, maybe four inches on top of mount tam. but down around 1000 ft can be one or two inches is probably the way it goes. this is the lake tahoe area. as you know, you got a winter storm warning and traveling up. there's going to be sketchy only because with snow but also the chaining up right now, but because the snow is going to be so low you're going to be dealing with, you know, slow and go below auber easily below auburn. this is the story o

so as we take a look here, we kind of go down to southern california, rather central california. you can see over the santa cruz mountains and kind of points south and east. they've been dealing with some of that cold air and mount hamilton where we have elevation. that's where some of that rain now turning into snow yet again. and that's probably going to place where we see the biggest accumulation spots like mount hamilton, where we have really high elevation. all of this is courtesy of a low pressure system that is up off the coast of washington and oregon and it is driving all of that moisture towards us. and so that's why we have all this winter weather headed to california. you can see all of the warnings and watches and even a blizzard warning in southern california for friday into saturday. for us. it's going to be all about the winter storm warnings at the areas that are all at a little bit of elevations are hills are peaks around the bay area that kicks in this afternoon and goes through tomorrow morning. as far as the rain is concerned, looking out for between about a

the real action is across southern california where they're seeing those same low snow levels. north of downtown los angeles. as the low moves out, what will be moving in tomorrow is a more mild storm that will bring us some rain at times for sunday, followed up by a second storm monday that once again will bring low snow levels back to the bay area. look at that. 2,000 to 3,000 feet, again not as low as this last week, but still low enough that our bay area hilltop will get another chance for seeing some snow. you could see as one cold low moves out, here's the next one that moves in for monday. that will be driving snow levels downward, and early projections are around the diablo range, toward mt. hamilton, and around the santa cruz mountains, you'll see the snow totals starting to come up again. look at that -- on monday, across the north bay peaks, elevations above 2,500 feet have a chance for seeing more snow. it's not just a little bit of snow but maybe five to seven feet of snow for the sierra. we've got blizzard warnings reissued for the sierra. this is monday through w

so it's going to be a wild ride for southern california. we wish them well, of course, with all of the snow that we just got, we we can know what they're going through right? 30 degrees right now in big bear. so plenty cold there. 53 in la 47 in fresno and we've had a cool day around the bay mountain dew sitting at 50 degrees. but i haven't had a whole lot of 50's on the map today. you can see fremont right now 50 of as well. but san francisco just at 45 degrees. so here is a look at that system again. and as we zoom in, you can see where these really heavy showers are falling right now. there's a little bit of snow here. but then right along i-5, you can see between lost hills in kettleman city, just an absolute downpour happening. they're bringing it back to the day. we are getting less rate. so this still being dragged in and that counter clockwise circulation. but it will ultimately track to the south. but in the meantime, we still have a few scattered showers that could pop up and even a little snow overnight. wind is calm down, though

and so, now we have em established at two nurseries here in southern california. currently have 15 people out helping us search for these coqui frogs, and that includes biologist with the california department of fish and wildlife as well as biologist with the natural history museum. but there's these real implications of these coqui frogs showing up and having these impacts and it's just all because they're doing what a lot of other species are doing, which is hitchhiking a ride into the nursery plant trade. as a biologist, m interest is understanding how species are dealing with urbanization, whether those are native species that are trying to adapt to these urban settings, or whether these are non-native species that have been introduced as a result of human activity and are also trying to find a way to make it here in the los angeles area. we were here specifically to look for slender salamanders. give me a hand grabbing these. and we were able to find 7 slender salamanders, and on top of that we found two other native species--a western fence lizard and a sou

it's hitting all of california, right now the southern coast and approaching southern california. the storm is still spinning off the coast and that will draw in more moisture for the next several hours. temperature-wise, it's so marginal. that means we're seeing that sometimes it's just cold enough for it to change over to hail or snow pellets, and then in other areas it's a little bit too warm and one degree can make a huge difference. in napa we're still looking at off and on showers through at least about noon, but there should be clearing for the afternoon. not much warming. going into this evening, we are going to start to see this activity tapering off for most of us. but there still may be snow coming down in the hills even tonight, and then into early tomorrow morning there's still going to be that lingering moisture for those upper elevations to still kind of get additional snowfall. going into the weekend, another round of rain on sunday and you can see this cold air still lingering. we're looking at a wintery mix, even into the next storm on monday, as well as tuesday.
