a typhoon 345ed landfall in southern china. it since weakened and people are dealing with heavy rain. we have the details in world weather. >> yes, catherine. a typhoon made landfall so the hong kong area made the worst of it. the stock exchange was suspended and they were canceled in the area. the storm has weakened to a tropical storm, but it is packing a lot of energy to create more stormy weather. the tropical force winds in the yellow circle. the system will likely move at a slow pace for a couple of days. the stormy conditions will prolong an additional 300 millimeters. that's an already saturated ground and the flooding and landslides will be a risk across southern china. up towards the north, the worst flood occurred in north eastern china. heavy rain and afternoon thundershowers are likely for most of japan. the main story for east asia will be the heat. heat warnings and advisories are posted for inland china and south korea as well as much of jap japan. as well as kyoto. people are trying to find their way to cool th

southern china but before it hits taiwan it's likely to maintain its intensity. it will be packing gusts of 126 and into tomorrow about 144 kilometers per hour. and that will be pick up the high waves along the coastal regions in any of these islands up to about seven meters high. very dangerous level. not only that but the total accumulation of the rainfall will be staggering amounts. the southwestern monsoonal flow is dumping torrents of rain here in western luzon. that includes the metro manila area where the flooding has still not alleviated yet. this is a huge concern because any further precipitation could further worsen the situation. we see a lot of rain accumulations and even in japan. thunderstorms are likely to ignite across much of northern japan and down into kanto region in the evening hours. for now sunniy spells with tokyo at 34 same here in shanghai and chongqing with 34 for the high today. a hot day in southern regions of this continent. here we're talking about unstable conditions. we actually have a report of a tornado touchdown in germany yes

now going to be moving into the taiwan, southern china region. as it does so, due to the sea surface temperature being quite warm, it's actually record high since 1985. and this is going to be feeding the system, exacerbating the situation between okinawa, taiwan and southern china in the next 72 hours. it's also enhancing the southwestern monsoonal flow. western luzon will be brought some torrential amounts of rain, about 200 millimeters on top of the very well saturated area. so flooding is going to be a huge concern. we're also looking at another tropical storm system, it's actually a depression as of now. but this is bringing heavy rain across the eastern china already. so this is another area we're looking at flooding, as well as this. this is a remnant low of utor, which was a tropical system before. it's lingering here. that will be creating the risk -- a high risk and potential for further flooding where the situation is not alleviated yet. where we really want that precipitation, we're not going to get enough to ease that extreme drought

you've been keeping an eye on a storm that's made landfall in southern china. what's the latest there? >> that's right, catherine. we have been monitoring a system for quite some time now. this is chaumi which has made landfall here in china. still a severe tropical storm status but likely to downgrade into a tropical depression any time this av into the evening hours. the magnitude of this system will be quickly dramatically downgraded, however, still packing wind gusts of 162 kilometers per hour. waves around the coastal areas will be finding six-meter-high waves. also the coastal floodings will be the key element due to this very heavy rainmaker. even if it downgrades, the heavy rain will continue. and despite the proximity of this system, it's quite far away, but still will be enhancing the southwestern monsoonal flow dumping very heavy rain to the very well prone land to flooding. so this area, the flooding's still not alleviated yet, but more flooding will be at very high risk, also landslides too. and more rain to come across taiwan. even in the southern

going back to the rain for a second, i want to tell you what's happening in the southern china -- southna sea. heavy rain moving from hainan island into southwestern china. this is a tropical depression, you may see some strengthening with it. this is falling on already saturated land. last week another tropical system brought downpours to the same region so there will be the risk of flooding and landslides down toward the south. hot and dry in shanghai, as well as chongqing. seoul and tokyo partly cloudy with 33 degrees. on into europe. showers have been moving across much of the uk for the past several days. there's another system coming in now from the atlantic so after a break you are seeing showers come in again. the really intense stuff is going to be taking place from northern spain up through into southern portions of scandinavia. we've got this cold front that is bringing some very severe weather indeed. thunderstorms with thunder and lightning, very strong winds and even the potential for tornado here. especially where we're going to see the clash of cooler air out west. then

heavy rains have triggered lanslideses in southern china burying homes and vehicles at least 15 people have died. the number of dead has surnled passed 200. nine people reported killed and six. the deaths come after three people died on sundaya in the landslide. tokyo electric power company has reported a radio active leak at japan's crippled nuclear plant. according to the operator it's the worst such leak since the crisis began. some 300 tons of radioactive water is believed to have leaked from a tank. they also said that the source of the leak had not yet been pin pointed. tickets for the 2014 world cup will go on sale. they expect about 3.3 million tickets to be available for the month long tournament tor brazil. earlier i asked the correspondent if brazil was ready. >> the team are here this week and the government is doing the rounds as well. they're going to all the state being built especially for this occasion to check on progress. the minister of sports here did warn us that only one of those is actually going to plan at the moment. so he is keen for people to pull their help

have been tracking it will be moving towards the northern tip and possibly making landfall over southern china. gusts up to 162 kilometers per hour which is enough to pick up the waves around the coastal areas around seven meters high. the impact of this will bring staggering amounts of total rainfall accumulation and is enhancing the southwestern monsoonal flow so dumping this area with very heavy rain. metro manila already has 800 millimeters of total rainfall accumulation reported since saturday. and on top of that we may see about 200 millimeters of additional rainfall which is certainly enough to cause more severe flooding. amounts of about in excess of 250 millimeters from this storm system. flooding is also going to be very high risk across much of the surrounding countries. now, across northeastern china and into russia a river has been flooding. we have a small but very active low pressure system bringing unstable conditions that could raise the risk of further flooding situations there. we see a lot of 30s again in the eastern continental asia. now over to north america. the wet weat

even though it does so it's still expected to bring a lot of heavy rain across southern china for the next several days. it's already brought really tremendous amounts of rain across taiwan, across the northern philippines even though it hasn't made any direct contact with the philippines or taiwan yet. it's because it's really enhancing this southwest monsoon. this time of year we have these monsoonal rains and moisture flow is just coming straight in towards this larger system and that has brought devastation to manila. we've got some video coming out of manila to show you the scene on the street. this is just days of nonstop heavy rain brought in by that southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm trame. eight deaths have now been reported at this time with four people still missing. thousands of people have been forced from their homes as the water levels continue to rise throughout manila. schools have been closed all weekend. many people are still unable to make it to work also because the roads have been closed. now, last year, similar rain event occurred in manila resulting i

and then into -- well, southern china, where the storm system is heading next. we had mangkhui push through, and jebi before that. this one looks like it will be farther to the northeast. it is expected to intensify. high winds and waves along with it, 100 to 250 millimeters generally expected out of this once it makes landfall about into the afternoon hours on wednesday. we want to continue to keep a very close eye on this very potent and powerful storm system. farther to the north, northeastern china, looking at heavy rainfall here. low pressure area is pushing through. that could cause flooding here as well. and across -- well, we were talking about the heat, still those thunderstorms flaring up here. even widespread power outages in tokyo this evening. tokyo, korea and central eastern china, we are seeing this high pressure in place. it is just keeping things hot. it's not just japan. temperatures are reflecting this. out of tokyo, still above average here. chongqing up to 30 as well. uisan in korea, you're above average throughout the mid part of the week.

that extreme drought condition is still prevailing across southern china, but the heat warnings are postedastern asia. kyoto is looking at 36. shanghai is reaching up to 40 degrees. the bad news is it's going to be continuing. this ongoing heat will really exhaust you. try to arrange your plans for the weekend if you are going to be having fun out door for the weekend because it's going to be very, very hot as you can see. please take precautions for heat stroke. now, across north america, the severe weather is still erupting across the central plains and into southeastern great lakes region. in fact, we have one tornado touchdown reported in texas from this system. tomorrow it's going to be widely spread across much of the eastern half all the way from texas/oklahoma panhandle into new england states. the big apple, d.c., boston, these are the areas that you will find drenching rain that could lead to flash flooding and we can't rule out the possibility of tornadic activity. towards the south, still sizzling hot at houston, 38 degrees. although the humidity level is still very low, 5% in

now, heavy rains also been impacting southern china further out towards the west. this was our other typhoon that came through, utor, last week if you remember. it's now a remnant low, but it has continued to bring a tremendous amount of rain down since becoming a remnant low into guangdong province. a widespread problem here. we'll start to see the rain diminishing into midweek as it continues to dissipate, weaken off there. japan's also been dealing with heavy rain, northern portions across hokuriku as well as tohoku, also saw heavy rain, about 50 millimeters in the space of one hour, more than 50 in fact. and we're going to be expecting to see this conditions moving further down towards central and southern portions into tuesday as that front line extends along the length of the country. the heat has continued in kyushu. more record breaking temperatures on monday. and into our tuesday still going to be very hot in tokyo, 34 degrees here. finally seeing more comfortable temperatures across eastern and inland china. shanghai and chongqing also getting some very w
