. >>> people in southern china are dealing with heavy rain. mai shoji joins us now from the weather desk. residents in southern areas of china are used to getting precipitation this time of year but too much of it can certainly wreak havoc. >> exactly right. s's not a rare sight for us to see the rainy season picking up, especially here in southern china. for the past month, we haven't seen this ongoing rainfall and for the past week, we have already seen about 300 to 400 millimeters piling up across this location and severe flooding has occurred. take a look at this. the rainy season is now impacting those in southern china with force this week. the persistent rains have resulted in these kind of floodings which have submerged some homes closed schools and all around made it you know really difficult for those in the region. one person said the water rose so fast, it was like a reservoir which broke and water just poured in. residents set up planks and sandbags at doorways to prevent water from flowing inside the buildings. the rainy season h

seasonal rain lying over the southern parts of japan and taiwan as well as the southern end of china. the system has shift ad little bit towards the south compared to what we saw on thursday. heaviest rain will likely fall in and around hong kong as well as south of taiwan. some areas will see an additional 200 millimeters in the next three days or so. we've heard numerous reports of flooding and land slides from southern china so more heavy rain is definitely not welcomed. let's go down the southern hemisphere. heavy rain is falling over the east coast of new south wales and rough seas are occurring due to this low pressure system over the water that's sending ample moisture to this area. the system will pull away. so as we go into saturday conditions will improve. we may see showers in sidney on saturday but mostly dry and drier conditions afterwards starting sunday going inneil diamond. temperatures will be seasonable in canberra into monday. however morning low kos be nearly 0 degrees. do bundle up. let's go the americas. we've been talking about lots of heavy rainfall for the sou

rain from southern china into japan, this is a seasonal frontal system. the system will be energized by the typhoon. heavy rain will pound mainland japan. now let's go the americas. we have ana over the atlantic. this is not a tropical storm, actually this is a subtropical system. it's not a tropical system because it contains cold air in the upper atmosphere but regardless of the definition it is expected to produce significant weather event over the eastern portions of the united states. right now packing winds of 75 kilometers per hour. the system will reach the coast of south carolina by sunday evening local time. we already have some watches in effect along the south carolina and also north carolina that means tropical force winds are expected to occur by your saturday. this will likely become a low pressure system and move along the east coast as we go through next week. and many cities such as new york city as well as washington, d.c. could be battered by the storm so stormy conditions will happen in these places on your monday. please watch out fo

let's go to some video we have coming out of southern china. take a look at this. a building collapse resulted after days of heavy rainfall on tuesday. at least one person died. 15 people were are still missing in this nine-story apartment. residents in nearby buildings were also evacuated. workers are being cautious because they discovered a one-meter-long crack in the mountain that is right nearby. that temporarily stopped rescue operations. and more rain is still in the forecast out here. actually, some areas have reported in the past several days 3,0004 -- 300 to 400 millimeters of rainfall. the forecast is still looking at that much or even more as we head through the weekend. around parts of hong kong, especially over there toward taiwan as well, and of course, still back here toward the west, at least it's going to taper off a little bit, still going to be seeing showers here, see what our 72-hour rainfall outlook here. look back there to the east it starts to accumulate up as it moves into western japan as we head into saturday night and eventually into sun
