farther south than that, still remaining rather tropical to the southern philippines and as far south as indonesia. you are still seeing that very moist monsoonal flow. actually, in jakarta a very significant and serious flooding there. unfortunately, it does look like the monsoonal flow remains in place, but specifically for jakarta it should lighten up. but you still have afternoon storms continuing to blow up here. temperatures remaining in the 30s for the high in bangkok and manila. overnight lows cooler than that. seoul here at zero for friday. let's take a look at the meshes. the big feature is this storm system now moving off to the east from the southeast. that has been lingering here for some time already bringing heavy snowfall, actually seeing in portions of mississippi several centimeters of accumulation. now farther north into the appalachians you're seeing upwards of 20 to 40 centimeters expected into the next 24 hours as that system just continues to push overhead. now the good news is that it's going to start to rush off there towards the east going through your friday

showers moving across southern japanese islands will be heavy at times. heavy rain also down here across the philippines. they've been hit hard the last 24 hours. by midweek, another round of heavy rain making its way through as another low develops and heads to the west. temperaturewise, 11 degrees in tokyo. that's not too bad for this time of year. 1 degree in seoul. minus one in beijing with a very frosty minus 21 for the high. 6 degrees in shanghai. bangkok, 30 degrees and perfect beach weather here. let's go the americas. we're seeing a snowstorm move through the northwest. it will be rain showers at the coast. not too bad this first round. by tuesday, expecting more moisture. that is going to be stronger. watch out for the snow piling up in the upper elevations through to the middle of the week. we're also watching the gulf for some development. it looks like we're going to have severe thunderstorms for southeastern texas and also potential for really heavy rain right along coast in towards central portions of the gulf states. now 50 millimeters likely. you could even see 100 to 118 in some places

fairly weak tropical storm moving through the philippines dumped a lot of heavy rain there and now moving west at 15 kilometers an hour. sitting in the southern portion of the south china sea over these warmer waters it has the potential to develop further now. at the moment the winds are sustained at 70 kilometers an hour with gusts over 100 kilometers an hour. still a significant storm and we'll be keeping a very close eye on its progress. let's go now to somewhere that's certainly not in fear of warm waters. frigid across northeastern japan. northeastern asia i should say japan included in that as well as the korean peninsula and northern china in the grips of icy weather. as for the snow, well the sea of japan side of the country has been getting some fairly heavy snow as is usual this time the year in the last 36 hours or so another 30 centimeters of snow has fallen. that will wrap up on saturday. there's potential to see snow on the pacific edge of the country which is unusual, 50% chance we'll see in yokohama. if it does. >> it's the first snow of the season. let's look at temperatures. 5 degrees in tokyo. low is around the freezing po
