you get the idea that the southern half of virginia is going to see the snow. however, there's some indications that some of this snow may actually get closer toward fauquier county, culpeper, maybe fredricksburg, maybe southern maryland. you might pick up a little bit here on the grassy surfaces with temps this morning in the upper 20s and low 30s. road surfaces are warm. it would really have to snow to beat the band to overcome those mild temperatures and that high sun angle, some of that snow gets into the -- gets down through the clouds and heats the ground a little bit. here's a look at our michael & son camera. good visibility. the white house dark with a temperature of 33. notice how dry the air is. we have a 13-degree spread between the dew point and the temperature. any snow we get close even by us, i think a lot of the northern edge is going to be evaporated but you definitely see some of the darker blues. that's some moderate snow across southern parts of west virginia into southwestern virginia. if you're traveling down 81, you may run into some of t

beginning to move our way closer view showing temperatures now hitting near 60 degrees through southern virginia and closer to washington right now temperatures are in the mid 50s around washington and in fairfax, arlington, montgomery, right near the bay. it is in the mid and upper 50s now, too. farther to our south beginning to climb to near 60, culpeper now up to 61. out of the mountains. in western maryland much of west virginia and in the 50s to low 60s there. as is the shenandoah valley. and for the afternoon, these are the expected high temperatures. that will make it into the mid 60s in washington, nearby suburbs. maybe a few spots west and north in the mid and upper 60s. farther south and west of us, perhaps near 70 degrees. then maybe around the 2:00, 3:00 this afternoon. manassas down to culpeper. and fredericksburg as well. and as we look at the view from space over the last 12 hours, there is one narrow band of high cloudiness coming through behind that we have a clear sky. for the rest of the afternoon, we will have plenty of sunshine. as we go forward over the next 48 hours, we wi

mitt romney won in southern virginia just against ron paul.t do well among those kind of culturally conservative voters, economically down scale. the kind of folks who cling to guns and religion as barack obama inartfully said in 2008. these are the kind of voters that mitt romney needs in november. he lost them tonight in the appalachian counties. this is reminiscent on the democratic side, a different context of course. but remember if you look at a red/blue map in the general election there was a long red strip that cut down from pennsylvania all the way into northern alabama and that was appalachia. barack obama could not connect them with those people. and mitt romney might have problems connecting with them. if you look ahead to some of the states in the south he'll have problems. but speaking specifically of the appalachian counties look ahead to west virginia, western pennsylvania, wolf for mitt romney as he moves forward in the race. >> western pennsylvania should be a good material for rick santorum since he's from western pennsylvan
