there are shell trade routes all over the southwest. shell was a primary material for making jewelry, for using in burials, and you had to walk 600 miles to get it, down to the sea of cortez, the water that's in between baja and the main land of mexico. and i tracked routes all the way down to the border over years and then across the mexican border into sonora and then it a place called penacate and then a dune, 5,000 square miles of sand dunes, a beautiful landscape, but no water out there. but pottery, broken pottery all over in certain places and pieces of shell left behind where you could see that the people were crossing these dunes to the sea and picking up shell and then crossing back and then moving it up to phoenix and then from phoenix distributing it throughout the rest of the southwest. the first trip i took out there, we hit this mountain range right at the edge of the dunes. and we were carrying, i don't know, on that trip we were maybe carrying 80 or 90 pounds of water and moving it out to the sand and then we'd drop a c

there's napa south-southwest 12 fairfield west-southwest 13. southwest 6 is vacaville. if they get a delta breeze that tells you i'm struggling with inland temps. still low 90s today but 60s 70s closer to the coast and bay. another low will kind of knock the high back over towards the middle of the country. to be honest with you this is just unbelievablely massive high pressure system. it's controlling almost the entire country which is why i mean the core of it is right over the middle of the country where the heat index, humidity, temperature about 130 for some. it's just brutal. i was watching a show there up in toronto, canada, and the lady says 95 up here in toronto, canada. you know it's hot. low clouds, fog for us. cool to warm. friday into saturday more fog and cooling trend. maybe little warm up sunday and monday. roller coaster here. one day we warm up, next couple days we cool down. there will be a cool down today low to mid-90s far enough away i think there thereby enough of a westerly breeze take about three to five degrees off some of those highs yesterday

we're southwest of the fire. and there is a shelter in place. and we did find folks outside watching this giant plume of smoke. and i would say this weekend it's gone from a deep, dark black smoke to a lighter gray. i'd say it looks rather ominous, perhaps good news is that at least from our vantage point, it looks like smoke is traveling up and to the southeast. but it's staying rather high. if that changes it could prevent more problems. i can tell you, i'm outside now, and i can't really smell, except for just slightly, smoke. so i guess if wind pattern holds this could be good news for us. and if it flows east it would be away from populated areas. we did talk with residents outside. and a group of young women jumped in a car and ran over to take pictures. and this has been a point of curiosity. and they're concerned about what might be in this giant plume of smoke. >> what is your relative distance? how far away, approximately? >> i'd say just by guessing i'm about a half mile south and west. and i'm watching this smoke go up into the area
