the showers continue up from the southwest. the good news is that the rain is not as an intense heavy as we had in the last two days. we've been seeing that tropical source starting to get cut off. we're continuing the flood concerns. three flooding rivers in colorado. that will continue tonight and we'll slowly see those recede. the other flood warnings that go into parts of idaho and wyoming are flash flood watches, we'll continue watching the rain as if moves farther to the east. >> we have new developments on the u.n.'s chemical weapons investigation in syria. say secretary general ban ki-moon say u.n. investigators found overwhelming evidence, and the secretary general has yet to see the report, however it will be deliveredded to him in new york this weekend. more on that in a moment. first, president obama clarified his position on the new diplomatic efforts, and mike viqueira are covering those developments from washington for us. >> reporter: good evening to you, the president held a photo op, and all eyes are on secret

and because it's such a dry area across the southwest our main concern is flash floods. we're seeing a concern for flash floods, and warnings in places for places like southern california where you can see the moisture coming out of the south southwest changing into strong storms. and, in fact, in san bernardino county we do have a severe thunderstorm warning with win gusts up to 60 mph. taking a closer look with these showers you can see the intense reds popping up. something else that i noticed about this is the trend of the showers in southern california is to track southward. so winds are shifting not just in the way of a seasonal change for the southwest, but we're getting a large scale change across the united states. winds are starting to push storms more from a west to east direction. i'll show you that, plus we'll talk more about those hot temperatures coming up. >> well, the u.s. postal service said it lost $740 million in the third quarter. now there is talk of phasing out its door to door delivery service. if that happens then fedex could step in with their o

storms that came through denver there was a moisture feed for those storms that came up from the southwestight where we're starting to watch for another tropical depression developing number 8 right now, crossing across mexico but that moisture is coming up from the south, moving into the southwest and it also spun some moisture into the storm that brought record rainfall to seattle yesterday, record rain also for pasco and now it's moving in causing severe thunderstorms into western montana. this storm is going to pack a punch through tomorrow as well. it's going to not move very quickly to the east keeping the showers going. looking at our satellite picture what i want to show you is called the intertropical convergence zone. from the west to the east, i'm going to take you to the water vapor slight, it will show you in green where all the moisture is, looking at the feed of moisture coming from the south to the southwest to the area of low pressure that tracked into the past northwest yesterday. over an inch of rain is what fell in seattle and we also had quite a bit of rain come down t

. ♪ >>> and we are tracking two storms that are brewing in the tropics and flooding in the southwest.rren is here with your national forecast. >> we have two tropical storms developing out over the atlantic, and that's where they are expected to impact. this is gabrielle, it's was a tropical storm, weakened and now restained strength. and humberto could become a hurricane. it does not look like it is turning to the west. it will turn north and then northeast. watching the atlantic closely. watching the midwest as more heat continues to build up. all of this heat will continue to spread northeast. 85 in new york, but 90s in memphis, washington, chicago, could easily be topping 100 degrees today. excessive heat continues. now the radar is tracking a strong area of storms over the great lakes, but a large area of rain now moving through new england. then once the sky is clear the temperatures lime. there is that heat from the midwest, hitting new york tomorrow with a thunderstorm, and then getting much nicer over the weekend. it is comfortable with highs only into the mid-70s. more rain

there is moisture in the southwest, but california is dry, not around yosemite but around san francisco this is the diablo fire. this has burned over 800 acres here and certainly not seeing the rain there. you can see from this video a very hilly terrain creating problems for the firefighters trying to fight the fire. it's very intense. but that is in california, and it is threatening homes there of over 800 acres. not getting the rain there, but too much rain across phoenix, and this plume of moisture going up the southwest and then to the midwest. not helping the heat situation there the temperatures are climbing into the 90s again. heat advisories around minneapolis. schools close because of the heat and humidity and temperatures climbing in the mid to upper 90s. in minneapolis, 71. 84 in only haw, and the temperatures will climb in the mid 90s with strange storms. 95 setting a record in minneapolis, but after the showers move out it will get cooler and the temperatures will drop just a bit. the heat will spread to the northeast, and look at the new york temperatures climbing into th

the tail end of this is into the four corners region and the southwest. then we also have a low pressure area that is going to be built, actual surface low is in california. we're going to see that upper level span more into nevada, and then high pressure in the southwest or southeast. what that does, the circulation around the low, around the high. as you put this into motion, there's that low i was talking about. this funnels the moisture in. we get situations like colorado where you get rain that is lined up and going over the same places. the whole region, anywhere, especially new mexico and colorado have had those areas of rain, the cooler temperatures, so denver, where we've been in undated, 65 degrees. you get outside of that cloud cover, phoenix is 98. if you've been watching from the last hour, you've seen all these areas of watches and warnings have expanded. almost the entire state of new mexico is under some watch or warning because of the flooding. geography place a factor. you can see concerns that we had in colorado are just outside the mou
