but not long ago i was up at a place called chimney rock in southwest colorado. and it's over 8,000 feet. and you are up at the southern end ftd rocky mountains and there is this scarp of rock that rises up probably about a thousand feet out of a valley floor and right at the tip of this scarp there are two twin towers of rock. if you get to a certain place on top of this very narrow butte, you can see between these twin towers and there happens to be a great house built between these two towers and every 18.6 years when the moon goes into its northernmost point on the horizon, it rises between those two towers. i was there at the beginning of the last 18.6 year cycle and we stood up there, probably 20 of us, researchers, forest service people, all gathered at the same spot with cameras and huddled -- it was late december at 8,000 feet and we were all watching this gap. and somebody had done very intricate work to figure out exactly where you need to stand to see the light at exactly the right time. and as we were all gathered up there, i remember this older arch

i mean, to understand these, this one came out of a 13th century site in southwest colorado and i would sit with these bowls for hours and hours, drawing them into my sketch book because that was the only way i could really understand the complexity of how they got their symmetries to match up because i could never get them to match up in my drawings. i could never do a 100 percent accurate rendition of these because every line was meaningful, every line meant something about how you paint the next line, which is what it's like walking out there, looking for those shapes, looking for water, looking for springs, looking for places where the rain has fallen. it's all the same story out there. there is a 13th century or a 14th century polychrome vessel from below the mugion rim in central arizona. and this is 100 years after the anastazi supposedly disappeared, there's that story about one day this whole civilization just vanished. but if you start following the civilization, you can find where it went. you can find this culture's movement across the land. these images inside this bowl cam

right now three countys in extreme southwest nebraska still under a blizzard warning. north eastern sections of colorado. western kansas as well as me -- nebraska. mild air coming in front of this storm. it's going to weaken, a warm front is going to form down to our south and that warm air will be riding over the cooler drier air that's going to be around our region tomorrow and tomorrow night. so we'll see clouds on the increase because that warm air is lifted up and creates clouds. look for a little rain. if it gets chilly enough on sunday morning. once that low passes the winds go back to the northwest it can bring in just enough cold air perhaps for a little bit, a few hours of a little wet snow, sleet mixture west of the city. along the pennsylvania border it may be just a dusting. that's what we're looking for in the city. don't expect to see much of anything. because a lot of cool air is filtering in. even though the radar may show it to reach the ground. we'll clear out sunday afternoon. looks pretty nice later in the day. north winds in -t bay, five to 10 -- in the bay, five to 10 knots. a lot

you look at some of the states that obama team feels like it really has to win in the southwest, states like coloradoly under water. and it's all about the economy. when you have unemployment rates in the double digits in some of those states, the president is taking the burden. and you look at the whole map, when you look at a pathway to victory, there doesn't seem to be -- the battleground states aren't looking as favorable as they once did. so it's a challenge. the one bright spot for the obama campaign is the latest unemployment report which seems to show the economy heading in the right direction. they're hoping the numbers improve as well. >> yeah. and they better because, tory, you mention in your piece this fact, that no president since franklin dell anor roosevelt has been elected -- so talk about the uphill battle that this means for president obama, not on in ohio but in all of the battleground states. >> well, i think it's really -- josh makes a good point. it is hard to overstate the impact of that jobs report that we saw yesterday. that was huge. it was unexpected. and it was an unaloye

conditions in colorado are causing flight delays and cancellations here at the bay area and all three airports. officials say nearly 15 flights to to and from denver have been canceled. southwestnd united airlines have canceled flights at oakland and san jose. they expect things to clear up tonight. if you're traveling or no someone who is, you better check before you go to the airport. new tonight, california and the bay area isn't spending enough money on home energy programs. a new audit shows the state has only spent a little over half of the 186 million dlarz it was granted by the government in the 2009 stimulus program. california auditors warn if the remains money isn't spend by april, the funds have to be returned. they are lagging on the spending. leaders for both cities say the programs were slow to start because they focused on insulating apartments, which take longer to retrofit than single family homes. congressional opponent trs trying to make sure no more federal money goes to funding the product. they approved ne legislation to authorize road, bridge and other projects. totalling $260 billion over four and a half years. part of the bill included an amendment pr
