was a day of contrast — cool in the cloud, warm in the sunshine — and in actual fact, across southwest englandsunday afternoon for many. the next few days look likely to stay quite quiet across the whole of the country. quite a lot of dry weather around as well, but it will be mostly cloudy, and i suspect the temperatures easing away just a touch, around average if we're very lucky. high pressure still dominates the story. it's a blocking high that's preventing weather fronts from moving in off the atlantic. but a little bit more of a breeze always down towards the south, and that's going to continue to push this cloud in off the north sea, which could be thick enough on monday morning for a spot or two of drizzle. favoured western areas, perhaps as we go through the afternoon, seeing some sunny spells, but i suspect not as much as recent days. so, the temperatures not as high. cool in the cloud and drizzle, 15—17 celsius, maximum values of 21, possibly 22. now, that cloud will continue to push back in off the north sea through the night. that's going to act like a blanket. it's not going to b

, it could be another largely grey day with a few sharp showers, maybe, into south wales and southwest england along those exposed northeast coasts, maybe sitting in the mid—teens as well. a fine, dry day on tuesday, maybe a degree or so warmer, but as i say, largely dry with some more in the way of sunshine coming through. and then, we start to see a change developing through the middle part of the week — a slow one on wednesday with this weather front and low pressure bringing most of its heavy rain into northern france. but there is a possibility that the position of that low may just be that little bit further north, and that could mean more outbreaks of rain to southern england, so we need to keep an eye on that. further showers out to the west as well. little more sunshine generally, though, on wednesday potentially, and with a lighter southerly wind, temperatures a degree or so up — 21 degrees, 70 fahrenheit. the jet stream will then start to intensify, and, as we all know by now, it's the jet stream that drives in areas of low pressure. we see quite a defined dip taking place from wedn

we'll see bright sunny spells developing here across parts of northern ireland and wales southwest englandhe midlands and towards the south—east. now, to the east of this we hang onto a lot of the low cloud and mist and murk in places. generally quite monochrome overhead whereas futher west, brighter. breezier to the south and top temperatures today probably getting to 22 or 23 celsius. in the sunshine, feeling pleasant enough, we'll take it. as we move towards tonight we see further heavy showers for a time. thundery and slow—moving in nature as well, and i think most of these will tend to lose a lot of their energy and fizzle out. the return of some low cloud, mist and fog in places. it should be dry and as with last night it'll be quite a mild and muggy night with lows of 1a or 15 celsius. the big picture for the next few days shows this — a big area of high pressure groups across the uk. if you like dry, settled weather, good news because we should plenty of that. we will also tend to see quite a bit of that cloud cover and mist and murk and quite a keen eastern a north—easterly breeze
