delta airlines, american, united, southwest, spirit and jetblue. kate? is cnn chief medical correspondent dr. sanjay gupta. this is where things stand in this moment. does it match the current status of the pandemic in the u.s.? >> well, we're in a pandemic still. it's the last part of your question, right? we're still in the pandemic. we'd like to think that we're not, but we are. the numbers have been improving. airplanes are generally, have been considered one of the safer places to be because of the air exchange and the ventilation on planes but i think what we saw was a legal decision, not a public health decision. what the public health, cdc wanted, saying ba.2 is new, relatively new. let's see how it's behaving. is it so transmissible that planes become a source of spread? they want time to evaluate that and they're not getting the time now. remember, we were surprised by omicron. we were blindsided by delta and i think people, if they learned anything, we want to at least be able to collect the data to not be surprised like that again. so this wa

, airline passengers no longer have to wear masks on alaska airlines, american, delta, southwest, united, or jetblue to grow however, because today a federal judge in florida, a trump appointee struck down the cdc's mask mandate for planes, and trains, and other public transportation. now this ruling as unusual for a couple of reasons. the first is that it comes from a single judge who hasn't actually heard any courtroom arguments about this case, she decided that previously scheduled oral arguments said to happen next week we're, unnecessary. she canceled the oral arguments and just issued the ruling on written briefs alone. the second reason this ruling is a bit of a surprise, the judge decided this would be enforced nationally rather than applying to the plaintiffs, which you know, keep that in mind next time you hear conservatives solemnly intone about how much they dislike judicial activism. but as of this moment, the cdc's mask requirement is not in effect, tsa is not enforcing, it airlines are starting to follow suit, same thing on amtrak trains and local subways. the white house says -- whet

southwest is the one that stands out the most. had issues with jetblue, issues with american.carriers that are squeezed the tightest and those are the ones that continue to have these disruptionses. they're blaming it on weather. they're blaming it on staff shortages, blaming it on meteors, blaming it on whole host of things. i would avoid airlines having those issues. go through a traditional travel agent, if you get stranded, they can get on the computer while everyone is standing in line, waiting on hold with the airline. they can basically find a different way to get you home. that is what i did. i know a lot of agents. i work with agents. i know the business myself. so i can kind of get around it but i had to book last time six tickets out of nashville on southwest to get back through miami instead of fort lauderdale, 24 hours after i was supposed to arrive. that is challenge you're always going to have. it will get worse this summer. neil: that's lovely. more after this happiness. or confidence. but you can invest in them. at t. rowe price our strategic investing approac
