in my neck of the woods, in southwest washington state, just about every county save one has double-digit unemployment and we've had those disappointing numbers now for many months. almost 30-plus. so we are at a place right now where families are hurting. you know, moms who are paying the bills at night, thinking about health care payments, thinking about what kind of -- getting the kids to school, how much it's going to cost to fill up the gas, you know, the gas in the gas tank, what the costs of meeting a mortgage are going to be, these are the real challenges that middle america is facing right now and that's why we're here. that's why we're fighting. that's why we want to rein in spending, because as this actual ly -- as this chart shows, less government means lower unemployment. less government spending means, if you look at this, and this is from 1980 to 2010, they've almost tracked equally, our unemployment numbers and the federal government spending or outlays. the red line is just that. the government spending. the blue line is the unemployment rate. it's very easy to see that w

just read you the unemployment numbers for southwest washington state, they have actually not gone up in tremendous rise, so clearly borrowing and spending more has at least at the very least a negligentble affect. we can do better. we have to do better. the way we do that, stop bailing out big corporations, banks, auto dealers, right? stop spending more money. we had a meeting, with bankers, they were asking about more investment, i asked them about the $800 billion stimulus bill that the president and democrats voted on and passed last year, how much that stimulated job creation. you know what they told me? less than 3% of that number went to build roads. remember the shovel ready that was talked about, we're passing this because we're going to build infrastructure, i'm one of those who believes infrastructure is important. less than 3%, less than 3.5% was used to build roads. where is the rest thoof money? my goodness, we borrowed almost half of that. we're going to pass the interest and debt to the next generation yet we didn't use it on what we said we were going to use it on tha

states this morning from utah to texas. colorado to oklahoma. and more evacuations have been ordered in arizona. three dozen massive wildfires are blazing through the southwest burned a combined 1.2 million acres of land. arizona and texas are among the hardest hit state. 1,000 firefighters are on the front lines in arizona alone. battling two major wildfires that forced thousands of people from their homes. one of the blazes spread to over half a million acres. it is the largest fire in arizona history. >> we're drying out and headed to the triple-digit temperatures. or threat is rising as well. >> more in the overnight hours. winds are fastest then but during the day, that i're relatively calm. show you the u.s. drought monitor. to show how we're not in a drought. look at the d-4 drought to see how much of the south and southeast it takes. then you look at the age. that's agriculture, dry soil and hiydrological. talk about what is going on outside to see how clear it is. as we look for mount tamalpais this morning. the temperature running from 48 in half moon bay to 75 in antioch. much cooler and uniform around the monterey bay and inland. low to mid-50s.
