. >>> a man attending the salem fair in southwest virginia could be liable for damages after a rollerster accident. six people were hospitalized after two cars on the riptide coaster collided. the fair's safety consultant is blaming an unrhuli passenger. officials say the man was told it remove his hat before boarding. once on the ride, he put the hat back on. it blew off and got jammed into the wheel of one of the cars. virginia lawmakers passed a rider safety act in 2002. it allows riders to be held financially responsible for any accident that happens when they fail to follow written and verbal instructions. >>> there is a little good news for drivers fearing what the opening of the mark center will do to traffic. the defense department has reassured them that 6400 workers aren't showing up at their new offices in alexandria by september 15th. that's according to today's "washington examiner." only a third of the workers will be there by that date which should reduce the immediate effect on commuters. area lawmakers have been pushing the pentagon for a delay until road improvements

as you can see, west of the region, for this whole line of activity, gone down to virginia, pretty much to southwestshington. west of us, there's no precipitation showing. now looks like the bulk of this will be to the east. i think we'll be pretty much in the clear. from washington south, particularly lower eastern shore. and western shore here. still dealing with the activity, to probably 9:00 or 10:00 at night. the heaviest stuff is just moving to the east of the region. temperature-wise, we dropped the rain activity at the airport. by the way, the airport only picked up 10/100ths of know inch. -- of an inch. that's going to go in the books. jacksonville county, almost 4 inches of rain in that storm last night. 73 now. west winds at 10. barometer still falling. 68, oakland. still 90 in easton. sunshine and much hotter temperatures down there. and even pretty severe storms. 88, patuxent. high dew point. a lot of moisture. 70s, kept where the rain hasn't hit yet. still around the 80-degree mark. right now, winds all over the place. we've had a general southerly wind. that's going to shift tomorrow

virginia. we've had the winds shifting to the south-southwest bringing in the humidity. it's going to be with us as we get through the next several days. you can see it in the sky there over in washington off to the left. and off in the distance is anacostia. on the horizon to the right is arlington. we've got that thick summer haze all around the region and maybe a passing shower midmorning. otherwise quite a bit of cloudiness. during the afternoon, little sun in and out will hover near 90 much of the afternoon. there's a risk of thunderstorms developing late afternoon and early this evening. they could be severe just south of washington. any storms around will dissipate by late evening, and by dawn tomorrow, mid-70s to low 70s. a hot humid day thursday and again on friday. a greater chance of maybe some afternoon and evening storms tomorrow, and then off and on during the day on friday and into friday night. saturday, sunday, monday, tuesday, though, should be settling down. only a slight chance of any storms around. hot and humid with highs near 90. check the weather

95 and there is some more activity out of western maryland and west virginia and right now, we're seeing the firing up to the southwest of hagerstown and on to 70. we'll zoom this down and show you what is going on here and this is frederick. this popped up in frederick county the last 30 minutes or so and that is headed to hagers county. looks like if we show you the forecast at 7:00, all of the storms will be to the north of the metro and some temperatures steamy, 91 degrees and feel like 94 and 95. by 9, 11:00, i'm not expecting a lot of thunderstorms and showers, but i think there is going to be some out there and this boundary is drifting to the south the next few hours. as the boundary gets closer us to, within the next three to four hours, there is still that chance that we can have a shower or a thunderstorm riding long the boundary and some heavy rain, too with some flash flood warnings to the northwest. the temperature, 94 degrees. frederick is cooler with the clouds there and that is shower out of there, 84 and martinsburg, clouds around there and that is 87 degrees. when you factor in the humidity, this is

virginia, and now they're way out to sea and dissipating. still have the cloudiness around. there are the showers in the southwest, drifting to the east/southeast. we'll get breaks in the clouds and ought to get sunshine breaking out here as we start off the day. right now it's partly cloudy over the mall. there's a live picture from the city camera. sunrise around 5:45. and we'll have temperatures by 9:00 in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. some sunshine in and out all the way to much of the afternoon. however, it's late afternoon. especially areas off to our west, could have some storms in the shenandoah valley and the mountains late afternoon. right around washington, we will probably not have any storms arriving perhaps until around 7:00 or 8:00. that's right at the time people will be gathering on the mall. that's the time, unfortunately, of the big concert on the mall, the capitol, as well as the big fireworks display. they may be interrupted bypassing thunderstorms and then partly cloudy after midnight tonight. tuesday partly cloudy and still not too humid. afternoon highs around 90. getting more humid

southwest, a little sprinkle there. and out eastern rappahannock county and just south of stanton, virginia. temperatures near 70 in the rural areas and suburbs. mid-70s in washington and near the atlantic beaches and by the bay. there is the mostly cloudy sky over capitol hill. by 9:00, a little sunshine in and out. temperatures around 80 degrees. ought to hit the upper 80s and near 90 by late afternoon and partly sunny. late afternoon and evening is when we have the possibility of thunderstorms. any storms around should dissipate by midnight tonight. partly cloudy by this time tomorrow morning and temperatures in the upper 60s. a look at tuesday, the rest of the week, and the weekend, that will be at 6:21. danella, how's traffic? >>> so far we have road closures. everyone is getting ready for the fourth of july festivities tonight. if you're heading down to the mall or monument, you definitely want to take metro. there's tons of road closures. including the memorial bridge is close the right now in both directions. i want to show you the beltway. this is in maryland at connecticut avenue.
