thunderstorm warnings and watches across west virginia and a tornado warning across extreme southwestern virginia earlier this morning. all that is cancelled. however we have the severe weather threat in the forecast for least the next 12 hours or so. if nothing for the immediate metro. winter weather advisory and winter storm warning in wisconsin and michigan. indianapolis, severe weather. in asheville into western north carolina is where the heavy weather will be later this afternoon. this is what it looks like in terms of the doppler radar. if you can see heavy storms moving towards the north and east across ohio. close to our area, we will look for a few showers and thunderstorms later on today but the probability mainly south and west of d.c. the national weather service has issued a flash flood watch until 7:00 tomorrow morning. western maryland and the panhandle of west virginia. we may see heavy downpours across our immediate metro. here's the futurecast. showers moving through during the overnight hours. another band of heavy storms during the early morning hours of saturday. and skies c

the real bull's eye in terms of the snowfall was out into southwestern virginia about 40 miles or so west, northwest of lynchburg. they had about 9 inches of snow around buchanan. right now upper 30s primarily, 38 rockville, 38 also in bethesda, looking at 38 in great falls, 39 reston. still 42 in college park. now you factor in the wind. this is what you need to dress for, feels like 27 in gaithersburg, 26 in leesburg and feels like 32 in manassas. so here is the deal. colder but then warmer, can't stay cold long. colder tonight, chilly tomorrow and then milder wednesday and flat out warmer on thursday. here's the deal. for tonight evening flurries, clearing, colder, probably take that evening flurry out for 7:00, lows 22 to 32, winds northwesterly at 10. unlike the past few weeks we've had most everybody goes below freezing tonight, even downtown, maybe 29, 25 in rockville, 26 or 25 in reston. tomorrow morning sunshine, but a cold start, temperatures in the 20s and 30s and by afternoon a nice day but a little on the brisk side, mostly sunny, high temperatures 46 to 50 and winds sou

thornburg is just south of fredericksburg and they had 2 to 3 inches, but i'll tell you, what in southwestern virginia they had as much as 9 inches of snow in a place called buchanan. let's start with radar right now. most of the snow showers are done now. in the wake of this clipper, which is what it was, a very vigorous clipper that pass toad far south to give us snow in the metro area -- passed too far south to give us snow in the metro area. all the snow showers are in the northern neck pushing south and east getting out of here, a couple snow showers left in west virginia. they will die out before midnight, too. the deal is, it's cold, 40 downtown, 36 gaithersburg, 39 manassas, a little breeze out there. so it feels like 30 downtown and in the 20s in the northern burbs, 27 in gaithersburg, 25 leesburg and feels like 32 also in manassas. for tonight clear and colder, two blanket night lows 22 to 32, winds northwesterly at 10. we'll come back and tell you if temperatures recover tomorrow and we'll talk about what happens getting into the latter part of week. spring may make a comeback. >>> turning

that's some moderate snow across southern parts of west virginia into southwestern virginia. if you're traveling down 81, you may run into some of that. on the future cast it actually shows some of that snow getting farther to the north. charlottesville, maybe fredricksburg into southern maryland, you might see a little bit of buildup on the grassy surfaces. by noon still a little bit of that light snow, snow showers extending even over toward salisbury as we get into the midday hour. but in the afternoon there goes the system. it starts to pull away 3:00, 4:00, 5:00. by 5:45, nothing but a lingering sprinkle or snow shower or flurry left over. starts to break up behind the system. the winds will kick in as well. we'll get a little gusty this afternoon maybe gusting up to 20 as the colder air moves in tonight before we start a nice warm-up beginning tomorrow. so looking at the forecast, today temperatures only about 44. that may be a late afternoon high with the flurries, light snow especially south of town. tonight we're back in the 20s. tomorrow we'll get up to 51. winds tu

then you get into southwestern virginia by roanoke. they've got some clouds there. that will be moving toward us late this morning really into the afternoon. some upper 20s to the north although manassas is also 32. frosty conditions. 33 also down in catlett and we're 43. a quick look at highs. upper 50s, maybe 60 down south. let's find out about your time saver traffic at 5:30. >>> i don't think there be many complaints outside. i'm really happy to say that. mostly all of your lanes are open. all the overnight construction pretty much cleared up on the west side of town through annandale and inbound on i-66. if you're just leaving centreville or manassas coming inbound, i think you'll be just fine even on the dulles toll road from leesburg. we'll take a live look outside. if you're planning to head on the northbound side of 95 and 395, still very light as you can see heading up north across the 14th street bridge into the downtown area. let's go back to the maps and this time we're going to head over to the other side of town on the bw parkway and route 50 through

it does not include d.c., but that severe threat does include southwestern virginia.r aerial pattern to what we saw tuesday night and wednesday, but this yellow area means moderate risk for strong and severe storms and a lot of times this verifies the possibility of tornadoes, too. we do expect to see a lot of tornado watches and warnings flying tomorrow through the midwest. for us it's late clouds and showers coming through. the warm front will be first. that's why we'll pop into the 60s for a little while saturday and then saturday afternoon the front swings through. so your saturday afternoon will be drier. after that we begin to trend a bit colder as you'll see on the five-day forecast. maybe cold is too strong of a term, but upper 40s after today's 70, maybe you could make a case for that. we are going to trend a little bit cooler starting sunday and into monday and tuesday. we'll get the rain over with tomorrow afternoon and into the first part of saturday, but i got to tell you if we get a lot of thunderstorms, i would not be surprised to see some flash flood w

even some severe weather down in southwestern virginia. a little bit earlier. but for us it is just on the -- just been seeing some of those stronger storms. now down to the south and west of us is where we'll continue to see them and continue to watch out for those, too. there they are right there. just to the west of the warranton area, a pretty good storm actually making its way through there and another one along the chesapeake just to the west of allen's fresh getting ready to cross 301. as far as the rest of the weather goes overnight tonight and for the rest of the evening, temperatures will be on the warm side. you know that. but we are going to continue to see showers right on through the night tonight and then into the day tomorrow. take a look at 5:00 tomorrow afternoon and you can see we will be dealing with some shower activity around the rest of the region. during the day tomorrow maybe even some thunderstorms. let's get to the four-day forecast and show you how we'll break out for the temperatures there. first off, isolated showers tonight with a

think confined to the west side of interstate 81, up into the mountains of west virginia, western maryland, southwesternsylvania. and these showers down across south-central west virginia, they're inching their way eastbound, but inching is the operative word there. i don't think they're going to make it here today. so, today, no concerns. tomorrow, with all that energy and moisture just a little bit closer, i think we might have a little better chance for some showers around tomorrow afternoon. but again, no major storms in the immediate forecast, so that is welcome news. cherry blossoms will be very close to peak, really starting today and tomorrow and then through the rest of the week. so, now the goal is to keep the blossoms there as long as we can. and we do that with cool mornings, which we won't have, or not a whole lot of wind and not a whole lot of heavy rain, and i don't see a lot of heavy rain in the forecast, and more importantly, i don't see any really strong wind in the forecast for the next five to seven days. so, plenty of clouds and fog around today, breaks of sunshine. then the same st
