our clipper system is coming out of kentucky across west virginia now into southwestern virginia. there's roanoke, lynchburg, those areas picking up a little bit of that light snow this morning. you can see the system as it's coming across the mountains out of west virginia here. it's trying to get up toward the charlottesville area. on the north edge of this, the air is kind of dry. with temperatures in the mid- to upper 20s, it's certainly cold enough to support snow, even sticking to the surface, but with the dry air, i think a lot of what we're going to see will just be evaporating, especially the northern edge. 30 in alexandria this morning. also in crofton. it's 28 for columbia. arlington is 31 and 28 in bethesda. outside on our michael & son weather camera, good visibility. a few more lights coming on. 32 degrees. feels like 26. this is the dryness i'm talking about. dew point only 20. you get a 12-degree spread. you want the spread to be a lot less or zero between those to for saturations. here's our storm system coming across the central appalachians. just a little bit too

that low was closer to southwestern virginia and the hail, some places 6 inches deep.ction center got 80 hail reports from quarter to baseball size. you know what happened? some siding was shredded and windows were broken all from this hail which is very common in the early spring when the atmosphere is very cold aloft and we can get those colder temperatures to really react with the updrafts and the rain and the thunderstorms. back to the map. let's talk about what's going to be happening. that upper level low is going to be heading to the east and clearing is on our way to the north. that's what we'll have tonight, clouds this evening, showers off to the west, temperatures hold ng the 50s and winds for the time being not too bad, but tomorrow those winds are really going to pick up. and enjoy these seasonal temperatures right now around 60, 61 because we are in for a big shock. we have a freeze watch in effect for tomorrow night, and the growing season is kind of ahead of schedule, so you might to want try to bring in -- maybe you have one of those topsy turvy tomato

thornburg is just south of fredericksburg and they had 2 to 3 inches, but i'll tell you, what in southwestern virginia they had as much as 9 inches of snow in a place called buchanan. let's start with radar right now. most of the snow showers are done now. in the wake of this clipper, which is what it was, a very vigorous clipper that pass toad far south to give us snow in the metro area -- passed too far south to give us snow in the metro area. all the snow showers are in the northern neck pushing south and east getting out of here, a couple snow showers left in west virginia. they will die out before midnight, too. the deal is, it's cold, 40 downtown, 36 gaithersburg, 39 manassas, a little breeze out there. so it feels like 30 downtown and in the 20s in the northern burbs, 27 in gaithersburg, 25 leesburg and feels like 32 also in manassas. for tonight clear and colder, two blanket night lows 22 to 32, winds northwesterly at 10. we'll come back and tell you if temperatures recover tomorrow and we'll talk about what happens getting into the latter part of week. spring may make a comeback. >>> turning
