jim allison was the number two guy, president of the speedway for a while. other gentlemen were the other cofounders. the reason they built this place was they saw the potential of the automobile and there was a lot of automobile manufacturers in indianapolis. they needed a place to test those cars. the idea was to have this big test track here where automakers could test their products. then they started to realize, you know what, race them on the weekends then sell them on monday. so that is kind of how the idea of racing here started. when carl fisher and his track,tes build this indianapolis was actually number two in the nation as far as the number of auto manufacturers within the city. number one was cleveland. so indianapolis had a burgeoning auto industry. companies needed a place to test their cars and a lot of roads were dirt paths, nothing that could really get up to speed. so this place was built and testing began in that regard. however, there was a guy named anry ford that came up with process using that assembly-line to build cars. so when hen

from daytona international speedway, exclusive reaction from the winner, denny hamlin.ing, rick. >> such a dramatic finish with so much fear in the crowd with this really incredible crash at the end, it was 19 years ago today that day on heart died at this race and fans think this is reminiscent of that crash. everyone is excited for the denny hamlin win. on the other hand it was such fear because of what happened with that crash. it took 2 hours for nascar to release any statement about ryan newman's health and his status but they say he is in serious condition but his injuries are not life-threatening. that is the good news at the end over 2 hours but denny hamlin certainly at the beginning wanting to celebrate before he realized the severity of ryan's crash. we talked to him about his win and how the crash impacted him. >> we take for granted how safe the cars are. we are praying for ryan. i worked with ryan through the whole race and he got a turn right there. my job is to make sure he didn't wreck me. on the other corner we decided in the last eight years or so but
