news 4's darcy spencer talked with former high school teammates tonight who are devastated by the news. >> ryan and xavier stringfellow show off their rings after winning the state football championship at battlefield high school in prince william county in 2010. swingle was devastated to learn his former teammate was found murdered in this van friday night in vienna. >> i was heart broken. it was really hard because he was one of those guys who brought me under his wing and kind of showed me what to do, what not to do. it hurts me that he's gone like that. >> reporter: investigators say the 19-year-old manassas man was stabbed to death during a struggle with someone he did not know but had arranged to meet. they wouldn't say why. detectives charged 22-year-old johnny bonilla with murder. he was arrested at his home in gainsville saturday afternoon. stringfellow was found behind the wheel of the van around 7:00 p.m. near chambridge road.

darcy spencer is joining us live near 14th street where a march is getting under way tonight. darcy? >> jim, i was able to speak to one of the organizers of this event this afternoon. he tells me when he was just two years old he witnessed his own mother being shot and killed. he says, in fact, the gunman turned the gun on him but fortunately it locked up and his life was spared. ever since then, he is an advocate for gun control. that's what this rally is about here this afternoon. the video we're going to show you was taken a few minutes ago as they were getting ready for this rally here in columbia heights. this is all about gun control. they're calling on congress, calling on the president to enact an assault weapons ban. they're calling for them again to take immediate action on this issue in light of the shootings in newtown, connecticut. we're going to hear from the gentleman i spoke about who lost his mother to gun violence and also we're going to hear from a little bit of the press conference yesterday from the nra national rifle association,

darcy spencer has more. and where police are turning in their search for the gunman. >> reporter: d.c. police told me the woman stepped on to this metro bus when she was shot several times. she had a baby in her arms. d.c. police tell me a woman in her 20s was shot and killed after boarding a metro bus in southeast d.c., sunday afternoon. police believe she was holding her daughter, the little girl, under 3-year-old was also injured, possibly grazed by a bullet. police took pictures of a pink umbrella stroller near the shooting scene. >> the woman appeared targeted and was hit multiple time. >> the woman was shot, 5:30 at 18th and minnesota. the bus driver drove a block and stopped and called 911. this man said he heard about four shots. >> i just ran out here. see what was going on. i went over there. and saw that body laying on the bus. had the little baby. somebody was holding the baby. a lot of blood on the baby.
