>> reporter: i can confirm what spencer just reported. it is raining moderately here in the santa cruz mountains. today's storm did not trigger any mud slides but it did trigger small rock slides and a few power outages. the big concern is the next storm that's coming that could pose a greater risk, especially as the soil gets more saturated. the rain was so heavy at times it overwhelmed the downspout feeding water from the roof of a store. but the bursts of rain were followed by lighter showers and sometimes even breaks. so the santa cruz mountains didn't experience any mud slides or flooding. even in the san lorenzo river seemed rather tame as it passed by the town. by the time all the storms make their way through the mountains, the total rainfall should be about six inches, nearly double how much rain has fallen here since october. but this small rock slide reminded people more serious slides could be coming. three years ago, a major slide blocked nelson road in scotts valley, cutting off about 33 families from their homes. >> we have

spencer is here with the latest. spencer. >> look what is left of the big storm.f the intense activity push out in the central valley but we still have pockets of written fall manufacturing through the bay area right now and some locally heavy rain at that. up in the north bay we have wide area fairly wide area of rain up in parts of marin county up to lower sonoma county offshore we still have cells developing moving generally towards the golden gate down towards the peninsula. in fact the pattern of wind flow is down out of the north west so the system coming from that direction. we have pockets of precipitation during the overnight hours and into tomorrow. in fact state wide tomorrow pretty much the picture at least northern 2 thirds of the state will see scattered showers and snow will continue to follow over parts of the sierra a.here in the bay area we see mainly khoyd skies tomorrow. few flashes of sunlight burning through and scattered showers. high pressure tomorrow mainly mid upper 50's to right around 60 degrees and here's accu-weather 7 day forecast. o

spencer? >> we certainly had a lot to track this week. right now live doppler 7 is tracking the most recent system. most of the active weather has moved over east of the main part of the bay area out towards the central valley, although there are still some areas in parts of the east bay, south of livermore east of san jose out in the hill country. and new waves of moisture coming onland down in the santa cruz mountains and up into the peninsula. this is very light precipitation right now. however, there could be some locally heavy downpours that will develop during the overnight hours. at the moment you're looking at this rainfall breaking up into little patches of showers. let's talk about how wet a december this has been. san jose's wettest december hat 9.26 inches of rainfall. we have two weeks left and already san jose is in second place right behind its wettest december ever with 7.42 inches of rain that this could turn out to be a record wet december. here is the forecast animation. we'll see the rainfall breaking up into isolated

spencer. >> all of a sudden. last couple week.heavy rain here and now adequate amount of snow to get the season started over in the sierra. look at live doppler 7hd. we have rain falling scattered pockets around the bay area and some of the pockets feature heavy rainfall. let's look at is what happening down south bay into the santa cruz mountains rate now. a line of very powerful downpour stormy conditions in the southern region of santa cruz mountains through capitola over into the morganhill area. we have a special marine warping for this area in effect until 9:30 tonight. concern about strong gusty wind and possibility of lightning. meanwhile up in the bay area long line of developing pockets of storminess offshore beginning to move generally towards the heart of the bay area. right now through parts of marin county we have a couple storm cell one on the coast line there just south of san rafael moving towards richmond. so we have active weather not blanke blanketing the entire region but continuing to definitely and we'll see

here is spencer christian. >> we may see a few rays of golden sunshine.'t know about rainbows, but we are looking at live doppler 7hd. there are a few pockets of light and scattered rainfall on the peninsula. a little cell indicating perhaps an isolated downpour beginning to push out over the bay. we also have pockets of fog developing. visibility is down to a quarter of a mile in santa rosa. it is below a quarter of a mile in petaluma and three quarters at fairfield. visibility will be reduced in many locations as fog cold continues to develop. a rush of river is receding where it crested earlier this afternoon. the river is below flood stage and the cresting continues to move downstream to other locations. around the bay area, the temperatures rate now are generally in the midto upper 40s. we have a mild 52 in san francisco. 52 across the bay at hayward. here is a live view from our exprore for yum camera. our exploratorium camera. we have clear skies around as well. these are our forecast features. showers are diminishing and then tapering off. we will

christian, i think you might be storm spencer. >> just call me stormy.that's what the weather has been like lately. a look at live doppler 7 hd right now, we can see rainfall covering virtually all of the bay area. we've got a stronger impulse moving into the heart of the bay area, producing moderate and heavy rainfall from lower marin county around san rafael to san francisco, down on to the peninsula, san mateo, across the bay to parts of the east bay. we are getting a nice little dose of wet weather right now. it will continue, it looks like right on through the afternoon and evening rush before it starts to break up into scattered showers. meanwhile, how wet has this december been in san francisco? where does it rank among the all time wettest decembers? the wettest on record was 1866. i barely remember that. we are in 11th place right now. we have quite a bit of the month of december to go. in san jose, it's been pretty wet as well, wettest december on record in san jose was 1955 when the city there received just over 9 1/4 inches of rain. already t

. >>> let's get right to spencer christian with more on just how gusty the winds are right now. >> we have got clear skies of course as you can see on live doppler 7 hd and the strongest gusts have actually occurred in just the last few minutes as winds have been intensifying through the late afternoon hours. in fact just a moment ago napa had gusts up to 52 miles per hour, just a few minutes before we went on the air down to 38 miles per hour right now. we have seen gusts between 35 and 45 miles per hour, 43 miles per hour at sfo, 41 at oakland. those are the strongest readings at this moment. here's a look at the wind advisory which will be in effect until noon tomorrow. winds will be generally out of the north-northeast at 20 to 40 miles per hour. those are the steady winds. gusts 45 to 55 miles per hour. the higher gusts will be in the higher elevations and of course this could bring down trees and power lines. this is for the entire bay area. this advisory is. here's the wind gust animation starting at 5:00 this afternoon. notice that as we get to 7:00 p.m., not much will have ch
