let's begin with spencer christian and tonight's forecast. >> we have breezy conditions around much of the bay ara right now. the wind gusting at the surface. we have 22-mile-per-hour gusts at livermore. 20 at san francisco bay and san francisco. the winds are a bit stronger and they're more widespread above 2,000 feet. the winds will continue to intensify in the overnight hours. we have a red fire daifrmger until tomorrow at 5:00. at peaks they'll range between 535 and 65 miles an hour. under those conditions fires could start and spread easily. there's a wind advisory until 3:00 p.m. tomorrow. there's a possibility of downed trees and branches and power lines. here's our wind gust animation taking us to 9:00 p.m. and midnight. we expect a significant increase in the intensity of the wind and the gusts to become more widespread. it looks like the gusts may peak from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. we'll see gusts up to 45 miles an hour especially in the higher elevations. so we'll keep monitoring this for you and give you a look at changes as they develop. dan and ama? >> thanks so much. >> po

let's bring in spencer christian watching that very closely. >> the wind is going to be a problem once again. let's look at conditions near the fire first. it's 63 degrees there. relative humidity down to 14% as you know. it's bone dry there. gusts out of the south at about 14 miles per hour. now, over the next 24 hours, notice the movement of the winds here. the path of the winds will be picking up dramatically after 8:00 tomorrow morning. between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. they will remain in that range until 8:00 p.m. when they increase to about 40 to 45 miles per hour. so for the entire bay area, here's a look at the wind gust animation taking us into tomorrow afternoon. at that point, 3:00 or so, we'll see most locations experiencing wind gusts between 20 and 30 miles per hour. a little bit later, about 8:00 in the evening, gusts between 25 and 45 miles per hour. and gusts will remain in that range overnight into the early morning hours, perhaps even higher, perhaps up to 50 miles per hour in the early morning hours before they start to taper off in the midday hours on wednesday and

spencer christian now joining us once again with a look at conditions in the area. mention the winds will be dying down soon. >> she did. let me give you a quick look. the winds have calmed down quite a bit. you can see most locations that have wind speeds right now in the range of single digits to teens, gusts up to 35 miles an hour or higher yesterday at this time. so the calmer winds certainly should be helping the firefighting effort. however, it's still dangerously -- we still have dangerously high fire danger there and extreme red flag warnings still in effect for a wide expanse because it's bone-dry and it's still quite breezy much like the situation here only more severe right now. larry and dion? >> thank you, spencer. >>> this year's topic, climate change, how do we respond. abc 7 news reporter david louie has this story. >> reporter: three quarters of a million people live or work on the peninsula. the smoke up north is sensitizing more of them about climate change. the nonprofit group releases the report card today raising the question how do we respond.

spencer christian has been tracking it and staying on top of it predicting it quite accurately. >> i'mppy that the winds are calming down. we had peak wind gusts over the last 24 hours, over 50, 60 miles per hour in some spots like healdsburg hills and mt. sant. helena. above 1,000 feet we have gusts only between 10 and about 15 miles per hour. so these are very light winds compared with what we've seen the last few days, last couple of wind events. appeared the surface wind is calm in many locations, and in locations where there is any measurable wind speed, we're talking about single digits. however, we still have very dangerously dry conditions around the bay area. that's certainly a concern and will remain a concern for a while. you can see currently relative humidity readings are in the teens, so it just remains bone dry. as we look ahead, we don't have any rain in the forecast in the foreseeable future. we don't see much of a change in the humidity. looks like it's going to remain rather low as well. we are encouraged by the fact we don't see any wind events developing in the for

we'll begin with abc7 news weather anchor spencer christian and a look at the red flag warning and the winds tonight. >> okay, good news, encouraging news weatherwise, that is that the wind advisory has expired. we still have fire concerns. current wind gusts at the surface range from 10 to about 20, 21 miles per hour, so it's still breezy and still quite gusty in the higher elevations above 1,000 feet. we have gusts now to 32 miles per hour, knoxville creek, 22 miles per hour in the oakland hills, mt. diablo at 26, to the wind gust animation, again gives encouraging ws winds will diminish into the evening. late tonight, gust at least at the surface dropping below ten miles per hour into the single digits. so good news there. on the relative humidity side, though, mixed bag here up in the north bay and over much of the east bay. we'll see right now relative humidity ranging from only 5% into the teens. a little bit higher in the santa cruz mountains. we expect relative humidity to increase a little bit in parts of south bay and east bay, but it will remain dangerously low in the north

. >> we begin with spencer christian for a look at the forecast. >> okay, even though temperatures areoing to be dropping and it's going to be cooler midweek, we're going to have very strong gusty dry wind. that's increasing concerns for fires. a high weather watch will be in effect from 5:00 a.m. wednesday to 5:00 p.m. thursday for the north bay except for a portion of the coastline, the east bay except for area around the bay shoreline, and a large region of the santa cruz mountains. now this is in effect from early wednesday until late thursday. because wind will be gusting out of the northeast at 45 to 55 miles per hour with dangerously low relative humidity. and unde these conditions, fires can startnd spread easily. i'll have the complete forecast a little later. dan and ama? >> spencer, thanks very much. >>> pg&e says it may cut off power to a large part of the bay area later this week buzz of that dry windy weather. >> yeah, the utility says power could be shut off in parts of nearly 30 counties. that's a huge impact. seven of the nine bay area counties are included. the warnin

we have a team of weather experts monitoring the conditions including our drew tuma and our spencer christian. >> dry gusty winds are intensifying at this hour. let's go back to the map to give you current wind gusts around the bay area. you can see winds are quite strong. up to about 20 miles per hour, fairfield 29 miles per hour and santa rosa at 20 at half-moon bay. winds are stronger at higher elevation right now. gusts at 32 miles per hour and 28 miles per hour, mountain diablo. they'll helicopter continue to r in the evening hours. we expect the strongest wind gusts arrangement to 35 to 65 miles per hour under these conditions with of course very low relative community and fire could start and spread. wind advisory remains in effect until 3:00 p.m. tomorrow. down and power lines. inhe late night hours, notice how much stronger the winds become and how much more widespread these strong gusts will become. we'll see it peaking from midnight to 4:00 a.m. stronger gusts in the high elevations and late in the afternoon, we'll see the winds tapering off a little bit as conditions normalized. i

. >>> spencer christian has a look at the weather. >> i'm happy to report the weather is much, much calmer. it's still quite warm. 88 deg.ve hidity is dangerously low once again, 7%. it's been in the single digits throughout the day. the wind right now near the fire out of the northeast at ohm 6 miles an hour to occasional gusts at 10 miles an hour. the weakening wind is 10. high fire danger has been extended for parts of the area. solano county is still under this red flag warning until 7:00 tonight. a good portion of mendocino county. there's still a chance for dry gusty weather. extreme fire behavior is possible under these conditions. check out the surface. relatively calm. in most areas, the wind speed is at the surface, below 10 miles an hour. you can see it's still dangerously low, especially the north bay and east bay where many of the areas have low readings and singe dimgts. look at the temperatures. it's not unusual to see that. it it's 19 degrees right now at half moon bay. it's produced amazing warming along the coastline where a heat advisory is in effect. vial more coming up

. >> let's check with spencer christian to see what we are expecting in the forecast. >> spencer, looks like heating up for sure. >> that's for sure, dion. we're going have dry, windy warm conditions. of course that's going to elevate concerns for fire. here is a look at live doppler 7. we have large ridge of high pressure dominating our weather picture right now. it's centered offshore, but it's basically blanketing all of california. and the clockwise circulation around that center of high pressure is going to bring us an offshore flow by midweek. we're talking about dry, warm gusty wind, rushing down the hill slopes. you can see right now the temperature change over the last 24 hours. it's 7 to about 15 degrees warmer right now in most bay area locations than it was at this time yesterday. so the warming has begun. at the moment, though, the wind is not a big factor, although it was pretty gusty at fairfield with surface gusts to 25 miles per hour and at livermore, 18 miles per hour. but with the warming, the drying, and the increase in wind we're going to see over the next few days,
