robert speta has more. >> that's definitely the case. very spring like across much of central and western japan. we are seeing a bit of snow back towards the north. we had our area of low pressure push through on your tuesday. behind it, you still have the northwesterly winds wrapping around. if you are in okkaido still see 30 centimeters of snowfall heading into wednesday to thursday. back towards tokyo seeing clear skies. that means warming temperatures. it's still fairly windy out there. that's going to weaken throughout the day as our pressure gradient kind of laxes with a high pressure coming in from the west. definitely going to be looking at improving conditions out there. if you take a look back towards the west, we have this frontal area starting to develop here. this is the beginning of the rainy season front for this region. you're getting into that time of year now where flooding could be increasing. in the next 24 hours we'll see some areas about 15 to 16 millimeters. hong kong going to be looking at passing showers here on

robert speta has the latest in world weather. >> let's start off talking about this serious and life threatening storm system for anybody who has not made the preparations out ahead. they are definitely in danger at this time. the city of about 34,000 people where people are right near the immediate coastal areas under the threat of not only damaging winds but we're talking about the chance of storm surge here and winds right now sustained at about 200 kilometers per hour in that center of circulation. do remember this is a southern hemisphe hemisphere. the right front quadrant or the worst of the storm is down towards the south. this rotates in a clockwise motion. that's where you'll see the worst of the conditions. it's not just the wind and storm surge but the storm will track towards the south right along the hadgascar island and right over the capital where they are in fact in a drought at this time. you'll want the rain but too much in a short period of time will be a lot of run off. it will continue to pull that moisture off the indian ocean. not only a dangerous storm but lif

. >> we now go to world weather with our meteorologist robert speta. >>> let's start off talking about what's been going own here across the u.s. over the past 48 hours. severe weather system that blew up there across the central plains and tracked off towards the east across parts of missouri into illinois and iowa. that brought widespread reports of severe weather and damaged hundreds of homes. over 35 reports of tornadoes. good news no deaths in this specific storm but there were several injuries out of it. this is still cruising offer towards the east. we are continuing to see the severe weather threat up and down the eastern seaboards. i want to take your attention over towards ontario because you have very gusty winds out here. even winds over towards michigan expected to be 100 kilometers per hour as this pushes overhead and off towards the east. reducing visibility very likely because of blowing snow. behind this front temperatures are going to be dropping down quite exceptionally into ottawa, a high of three there. minus 9 on saturday. do remember that's the high. the low righ

robert speta has the latest in world weather. >> heading through the rest of friday and also into saturdayif you are across tokyo might be able to get out and check out some of those cherry blossoms. we had our low that skirted the coastline on thursday. now it's drifting off towards the east. we have clear conditions there. another one back towards the north. it is setting up that northwesterly pressure gradient. for parts of western okkaido, you're going to be still looking at more snow. the in the past 24 hours seeing some areas and still could see that much amount. this high will move in from the west. kind of clear things off and weaken off that pressure gradient heading into saturday and sunday. by the time sunday and monday comes around, we have another low coming in from the southwest. that will bring more rain across the southwest of japan. that is bringing heavy showers in the south eastern areas of china. do want to know this is kind of foreshadowing the start of the rainy season out here. we're getting to that time of year. somebody keep in mind if you live across this area inc

robert speta joins us. >> heading into the weekend, it looks pretty decent out there. good weekend to get out and enjoy the weekend especially out in central and western areas of japan. in fact, take a look at the satellite picture. low pressure area bringing cloud cover is here on thursday. kind of interacting with southerly flow just south. if you are in the east, might see some showers, maybe a few rumbles of thunder out there and stretching back to northern areas of taiwan as well. overall this high pressure works its way in and as i like to say with these big bubbles or domes of high pressure, big bubble, no trouble. that means a lack of weather as that moves off towards the east and tapers off the sea effect snow machine. still might see a few flurries but overall vastly improving conditions across seoul a high of 15. tokyo getting up into 15. it does warm up into saturday and sunday as well. south eastern china you might see the increasing showers as i mentioned. the high right about 22 here your friday. i do want to take your attention here to peru. it feels li

meteorologist robert speta has the latest in world weather. >> yes, across much of japan, for that matter're looking at this area of low pressure moving overhead. and with that, widespread cloudy skies out here. we're also seeing scattered showers, even in the tokyo area during the morning hours. it's been tapering off but there's a separate low back here towards the west that is triggering up thunderstorms and it's going to be tracking off towards the east. so through the afternoon and into the evening hours, if you are in tokyo, don't put away those umbrellas just yet. you're going to be looking at more rain out there and a few rumbles of thunder follow behind with northwesterly winds even through northern areas of tohoku. blizzard conditions heading into friday and saturday before high pressure works its way in from the west. already this is bringing clear conditions if you are in the eastern and northeastern areas of china out here. actually, beijing, sunny skies for you. same thing for shanghai. up to 11. hong kong, 22 with clear conditions. tokyo today, scattered showers and tempera

robert speta has the details. >> a few of these airports are looking at thunderstorms, chicago in factrecently we were looking at lightning around the airport and causing delays out there. if we have travel plans over the next 24 hours be careful and check in ahead of time before you head out to the airport here. we have all you can see here on our cloud cover, this whole storm system shifting towards the east. this has an abundance of upper level support. a very potent jet stream dipping down here. the maximum, the high wind located here on the right side of this moving over missouri into illinois and indiana. this is supporting our surface low quite strongly and really fueling up these storms. it's not just that. we have the big temperature gradient in here and that strong wind sheer alot ft associated wh the jet stream. that's when we get in the severe thunderstorm territory. we're talking about large hail. these damaging winds which could be gusting well over 100 kilometers per times and also tornadoes out here. there's been several reports of tornadoes on the ground here on your t

robert speta has the latest. >> still ongoing and bringing heavy snow. you can really see this storm just wrap up over the past 24 hours. that's a strong upper level jet. there's a lot of fuel into the storm system. i'll show you video out of new york city. they did see snow but it looks like the freeze line was right over the city there. they say a bit less than expected. the coast also was hit by a storm surge. you saw some coastal flooding. on monday all public schools were suspended. over 5,000 flights have been cancelled because of this storm. it's having a very serious impact here. it's still ongoing. it's areas further inland. talking about northern pennsylvania upstate new york. extending through new england. you have still seen about 70 centimeters heading through tuesday night into wednesday morning. it's not just the snow with the storm. the big problem is the winds. look at the very tight pressure gradient for the center of circulation. we're still expecting winds out here up to 100 kilometers per hour in a few locations. sustained up to abou

. >>> robert speta has the >> yes, we have been seeing here is this storm system just starting to move along south eastern seaboard today. really as we go ahead through the next 24 hours this will continue to intensify and very dangerous situation. you can see on our satellite picture right here it's hard to see where the center is. that's because we have several low pressure areas that are coming together along with the very potent and strong upper level jet. this will move over the gulf stream. that will help fuel up the storm system. it's going to deepen rapidly, consolidate and be a very intense storm system as we head into monday night and throughout the day on tuesday. very tight pressure gradient expected along the coastline as well. that's really playing into a big role with this as well. let's look at the timing here. tuesday morning moving towards the east of washington, d.c. definitely around your morning commute. it will be just passing by. eventually into boston heading through tuesday afternoon and tuesday afternoon. it should be moving off rather swiftly. that's the good
