as the rain clears out we're seeing some spotty, light showers, especially across the north bay. i wanted to give you a closer look at our storm ranger mobile doppler radar, where we are seeing some light rain moving through parts of marin and southern sonoma county and we're also seeing some spotty rain across parts of contra costa county, as you get ready to drive, but the rain is just enough to have you turning on the windshield wipers and just kind of clears out. i'll also be tracking another system moving in. this one will keep the waves high along the coast today, but as it moves in, this looks to mostly be a north bay rain that moves in tomorrow, but let's look at some of our rainfall totals. i picked out a few spots and boulder creek, the santa cruz mountains had about two and a half inches of rain. mt. tam an inch and a half there. pacifica an inch and a half and cloverdale close to two inches of rain. san frarteansc of an inch. most of our rainfall totals around the bay area were anywhere from half an inch to about an inch and some of these were the higher amounts. we'r

spotty showers continued all morning long. in pittsburgh, stretching over to martinez and we have a little bit of rain there. if we head up the hill to the sierra a mix of scattered showers expected here over the course of the first part of the day. still snow levels will drop to half level and that will be the case although there is no advisory for travel not today. but if you are going in the coming days there are bigger storms on the way. giving you a look at the east coast where this is where we have trouble this morning and this will continue into today. laguardia, jfk, newark, all reporting delays and in fact here at home as a for reporting delays as well. here's a look at the visibility. we have some fog and visibility issues in nevada where visibility is less than a mile. napa reporting two, santa rosa livermore reporting three, temperature -wise upper 40s to low 50s to start your day. under all the cloud cover. temperatures are up. for the afternoon we will go partly cloudy skies, mainly dry conditions, upper 50s low

the rain will be light, very spotty, and it doesn't look to measure up to much.e trace amounts in ukiah, a tenth of an inch, while the rest of the bay area sees mostly clear skies and fog overnight. we do still have the high surf advisory in effect. that continues through 5:00 today. some of those breakers are still pretty high. and could reach about 20 to 30 feet and a long period swell in between of about 17 to 19 seconds. and then as we track how much rain we may see because of these systems moving in, once again, a very light amount. and then we're also going to be tracking some snow. this is a live look at tahoe and northstar, the skiers out there enjoying it. this takes a snapshot every couple of minutes. i've enjoyed watching the skiers out there. we are going to see some snow returning, going into the end of the weekend and early next week, so heads up about that if you're traveling there in time for christmas. the earlier you can get there, the better. and i think saturday is going to be your best travel day. we're all going to have some dry weather, and

some parts may be a little -- >> it's been very spotty not as widespread and as we get ready to headtting ready for some rain. i wanted to time it out for you before you make some plans. now the showers we'll see on friday evening will mostly be in the north bay and in san francisco. still some rain chances for your friday night and then on saturday, spotty light sprinkles but this will be the break in between with some heavier rain set to arrive on sunday evening that will continue into monday morning. i'll be watching that for you as we check out saturday's forecast. it's going to be partly to mostly cloudy. still a slight chance of some light rain but that shouldn't keep you inside. as we go into sunday, the rain moves in starting in the north bay during the afternoon hours, the rest of the bay area seeing it during the evening and some upper 50s so it's going to be also very cool and cloudy. on saturday for the christmas parade and market, i think the weather should hold off for this as we'll see partly cloudy skies, cool start and some highs reaching into the mid-50s and we can

you can see it is fairly light with spotty showers. it is increasing over this morning. santa rosa, as we stretch east through fairfield with sprinkles reported along the richland bridge. along the peninsula, woodside, highway 280 down through past san jose, and if we move further to the south, the santa cruz slides, we see this continuing into the afternoon. showers will increase with pockets of moderate to heavy rain before it tapers off. as far as rainfall amounts, a quarter inch to a half inch for most urban areas. the wind is expected to pick up to 20 to 40 miles per hour. the winter storm warning is in place for the sierra underway through tomorrow morning. we will detail that warning and timeline of the system and when i asked that we will dry out in a little bit. >>> the partial government shutdown and the president waited this morning and tweeting out in the white house waiting for the democrats to come back to make a deal on desperately needed border security. at some point, the democrats do not want to make a deal and will cost more money than the border wall
