peggy fox joins us live from west springfield high. i understand this was a story that's difficult for you on a personal level. >> reporter: yes. west springfield high school is my alma mater and whenever you're connected to a school and something like this happens, it's very disturbing on a personal level. three teenage boys, two 16-year- olds and a 15-year-old, all sophomores, are charged with child pornography accused of making sex tapes of underage girls and then sharing that video. a short time ago we spoke to two girls who know these boys and they had just talked to them and came over to us seeking us out to speak out for the boys. >> they really regret it and they're really sorry about it, but they've also like -- i feel like it's been blown up a little bit. >> reporter: the three boys are 10th graders. two of them are accomplished athletes who according to several sources had the talent to play at a division 1 school. now the three of them are each charged with child pornography. >> on january 11th we arrested three west spring

the arrest happened on january 11th at west springfield high school. three student athletes, one 15 years old, the other two 16 years old, busted in connection to a sex case. fairfax county police say the accused students victimized six local high school girls in an online porn distribution ring. >> all the victims involved in this, we do have six girls victims in this. all the girls are teenagers. all the girls attend local area high schools, and those are the victims here. >> reporter: some of the girls attended west springfield high school. police wouldn't go into further details about the case, but fox 5 has learned the three teenage boys are accused of getting the girls drunk and then making sex tapes, sometimes after the girls had passed out. those tapes were then shared among students, passed around both on and offline. >> all the suspects and all the victims knew each other. so there's no general threat to the public out there. >> reporter: it isn't clear when the tapes were made, but school officials learned of them in late november, triggerin
