>> reporter: well aaron, certainly parents are on edge in the springfield area. following an abduction attempt. a man grabbed a boy outside the main entrance of ravensworth elementary school. attempted to abduct him at 3:15 in the afternoon on friday. so this occurred in broad daylight. police say that the boy was able to put up a fight. he resisted. he was able to get away from this man and was not injured but the suspect is still on the loose. and police are looking for help in trying to locate him. he's described as a white male 20 to 30 years old. he's 6 feet tall with blond hair. he was wearing a black long sleeved shirt and jeans at the time that this happened. 3:15 friday afternoon outside the ravensworth elementary school. if you saw this person in the area police would like to hear from you. we'll start to see the parents and children arriving here this morning but disturbing news learning of this situation. and police are hoping to find this suspect. we have more information that you can get on exactly what happened and what police would like you to do.

when the west springfield high school baseball team takes the mound tomorrow night against lake braddock, there will be a lot more winners than the team that scores the most runs. they're playing to help kids who fight cancer. batter up. the spartans are hoping to hit a home run. in their friday night game against lake braddock. they're playing in the diamond's dream game for kyle's kamp, a charity that raises money and awareness for pediatric cancer. the charity is named for kyle honey a student at cub run elementary school. kyle is winning his five-year battle with cancer, and he's doing well enough to compete in little league baseball this year. that's why he's using his love of the sport to help others. >> i think baseball just really speaks to me. what i love about baseball is that it just takes my mind off of everything, you know. like it never even comes to my mind how i had cancer. >> his father robert founded kyle's kamp to help funnel more money to pediatric cancer research. >> we've been fortunate enough to raise roughly $1.3 million in the last four years. for children's nati

he was shot in front of his home in springfield after a standoff with police when officer torres says he saw geer reach for his waist band. his fellow officers on the scene, however, say they did not see that. in addition to the wrongful death lawsuit, geer's death prompted the organization of a police review board in fairfax county and yesterday we heard from geer's father about that settlement and about what's next. >> it's another step in the right direction. over the last few months we've begun to see some action as far as john's death is concerned. we went along for 17 months without hearing a word from anybody or anything. finally we're getting some action and this is just in my opinion another step in the right direction. but we still got a long ways to go. >> reporter: the shooting itself is still under investigation, but prosecutors have not said whether or not criminal charges will be filed against officer torres, but coming up at 6:30, hear what john geer's father says should be done with adam torres' salary. i'll have that for you at 6:30. i'm nikki burdine. back to you in
